They make it really easy to find books via their website. I can log into my account and place a hold from home and then they will email and/or text when it is available. The reserved books section is to the right when you walk in the door. It's alphabetized by the borrower's last name so you can easily grab your book and head to the checkout stations. If you're checking out a book from another library, you will have to scan the barcode inside the back cover (or some are on the back cover), otherwise the system just knows what the book is when you lay it on the console. The parking lot is pretty small here so I usually have to park in the shopping center lot and walk over (not far). Also, free WiFi here!

Dorchester County Library - Summerville Branch
Nestled on the edge of Historic Summerville, the Azalea town in the pines, the Timrod Library is an…read moreactual treasure chest of both history and wonder. Filled with books that celebrate history, current novelist favorites, children's selection, and a quiet space not yet tarnished and overrun with technology, the Timrod is perhaps the best Library I have encountered yet. It's enough to make anyone re-discover and fall in love with Libraries as they were once intended- a peaceful space to educate oneself and dive into both new and old perspectives. The smells of the old 1915 home make you feel blessed to even be amongst such information that can both educate and open your eyes. Open from 10-5 daily, the fee for membership at this nonprofit is only $25 a year. This type of non profit is a great reminder that not all are the same- the money from membership goes to being able to maintain the site rather than go directly into someone's pocket. Of course you're free to spend time learning complimentarily, but once you set foot inside and are open to all it has to offer, needless to say, I wanted to give more so that this special place can continue to exist and thrive. Did I mention T-shirts. You simply must go. The staff are all wonderful people to care about people and their work. Cindy, Carol, Connie, Louis, Barbara .... these women are pillars of examples of grace and encouragement. Am so happy the Timrod is here, has been here, and better continue to be! Much love, your woman and faithful forever patron, Natalie
Miss Cindy is AMAZING and look at those blue ribbon winnings back there!

You can easily walk from one end to the other in no time. It's pretty and well kept. I've noticed they are building more on-campus housing, which is wonderful. The graduate classes are small and intimate and they offer online options as well. The library is nice and there's a coffee shop next door. This new building however is modern, airy and enough windows high up to let in natural light and thus give warmth to the building and its inhabitants. I was there not to check out any books but went straight to the community room where probably 100 people could sit although we probably had 80 people for the safe sanctuary for religious organizations regarding terrorism and loan attackers. The three and a half hours that we all were there were in a comfortable room with a large pull-down screen where laptop computers could cast slides and information up on the large screen. It was an informative meeting made even more special by the wonderful building of this Library location.

They have a bunch of tables and computers to use as well. There was a very nice man who worked there and helped me with the computer and printing some papers for me. I liked him very much. The down side of this place is that it appears to be somewhere that parents drop off their undisciplined kids and leave them. The only computer available was among a group of young kids who were loudly playing computer games. There was an employee who had to tell them several times to be quiet. The young lady at the front desk was helpful but very unpleasant to talk to. She looked annoyed that she had to help me. Overall, I was able to get done what I needed, but I wouldn't come here again. Too many loud kids taking up computers.

Amazing. Friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely helpful when you're looking for your next great read. They don't just point -- they recommend. And they get it when you say, "I want something with depth, passion, and a little plot twist." First of all, the admission was expensive and each separate part of the plantation incurs its own charge--house tour, rice field tour, garden tour, etc... What we did not know, and what they do not tell you, is that the main house of the plantation does not exist (and yet, we paid for the 'house tour'). What we toured was one of the smaller houses still standing, and only a few rooms of the house at that! Most of the house is not open for public viewing. The gardens at Middleton are listed as 'the oldest garden in America'. Okay, but on our visit, they were not impressive; they did not appear to be tended well. Maybe it was because of the recent drought and the heat, but I'm not sure we saw any plants blooming. There was a long row of old azalea bushes that looked tired, and there were gaps where some of the plants had died, for instance. We enjoyed seeing the animals in the barn and fields. We took the rice fields tour, which was informative. It is a beautiful property, we just felt like it should have offered more history and beauty for the fee charged.

I recently visited the Johns Island Regional Library to get a library card, and the experience was…read moredisappointing. The male staff member was unfriendly and unhelpful from the start. When I asked to be placed on a waitlist for a book, I had to repeatedly ask basic follow-up question like how many people were ahead of me (it would have been helpful to know there were 10) and how I would be notified when it became available. None of this information was offered upfront, and getting answers felt like pulling teeth. A library should feel welcoming and informative, especially for new visitors. I hope the staff can improve communication and customer service moving forward. If you don't like your job, please find another one.
