Before the pandemic, there used to be a table that had a community jigsaw puzzle which was fun to contribute to. Years ago they had teen programs and craft nights and the summer reading programs gave me something to look forward to as a kid. Also before the pandemic they had events like "color your stress away" where adults could meet up, color, and converse with each other which was neat. There's seating areas and private rooms to fit your needs whether it's to get work done or have a quiet study group.

The staff is A+ and always eager to assist. If they dont have something you're looking for, they will get it! A good amount of seating is available if you want to sit for a while with a book, newspaper, magazine or your own computer. I never tried their wifi (normally use my own hotspot), but understand it's easy and good. So happy there is an excellent library on Daniel Island.

They have a bunch of tables and computers to use as well. There was a very nice man who worked there and helped me with the computer and printing some papers for me. I liked him very much. The down side of this place is that it appears to be somewhere that parents drop off their undisciplined kids and leave them. The only computer available was among a group of young kids who were loudly playing computer games. There was an employee who had to tell them several times to be quiet. The young lady at the front desk was helpful but very unpleasant to talk to. She looked annoyed that she had to help me. Overall, I was able to get done what I needed, but I wouldn't come here again. Too many loud kids taking up computers.

This is the newest, at least to my knowledge, of all of the Charleston County Library buildings…read more This replaces an old dark brick building that stood there for many years and was elevated such that it required you to go up a set of stairs. This new building however is modern, airy and enough windows high up to let in natural light and thus give warmth to the building and its inhabitants. I was there not to check out any books but went straight to the community room where probably 100 people could sit although we probably had 80 people for the safe sanctuary for religious organizations regarding terrorism and loan attackers. The three and a half hours that we all were there were in a comfortable room with a large pull-down screen where laptop computers could cast slides and information up on the large screen. It was an informative meeting made even more special by the wonderful building of this Library location.

While I…read moreentered the role optimistic and eager to contribute my experience to a city I believed in, the internal environment quickly revealed itself to be disorganized, and lacking the foundational leadership and communication necessary for long-term success. The most significant challenges stemmed from a culture that often prioritized control over collaboration, optics over transparency, and loyalty over qualifications. Employees were frequently placed in impossible positions without clear guidance or support, and the leadership environment made it difficult to raise concerns or offer constructive feedback without fear of retaliation or dismissal. Morale among staff was noticeably low, and turnover was high. There was little to no accountability for toxic behavior, even when it directly affected productivity, trust, or the well-being of others. Decisions were often reactive rather than strategic, and efforts to improve internal systems were usually undermined by micromanagement or conflicting agendas. Despite these challenges, I am proud of the work I accomplished and the way I treated others during my time there. I gained a deeper understanding of what strong, ethical leadership should look like by witnessing the consequences when it's absent. I hope the City of Hanahan can move toward a healthier and more professional workplace culture--one that values people, invests in training, and encourages open communication across all levels.
