Location: The location can seem a bit sketchy, but I never felt particularly unsafe at any moment. You will most certainly encounter some unusual people outside. The People: After reading so many reviews about it, I understand why they have a strict appearance. But once you are in, pretty much every staff member is as friendly as any staff member can be. Bartenders were amazing. The Venue: - Part of the charm of this venue is the fact that it values privacy so I will not get into specifics, but I will mention general things: great drinks, a dark room, "rest" areas, AMAZING music, unisex bathrooms, really long lines, but great overall vibe inside. You will rarely find pictures of the venue because cell phones are covered with stickers in order to provide privacy for everyone inside, as it should be. A great club. - Upon being accepted inside, and after paying the entrance (which was like 5 euros only), the first ten seconds of entering this club was some of the happiest ten seconds of my life (nightlife-wise). - It opens at midnight on Friday and closes Monday morning. Maybe next time with enough energy drinks I can stay longer than 10 hours dancing. The Drinks: - Vodka shot and Red Bull: I do not remember how much it costs but it was so cheap. So happy. Upshot: The music in this venue can be described as follows: this is THE ONLY CLUB IN THE WORLD that I would personally go to absolutely sober without drinking alcohol (or smoking, etc.) and still have the best time of my life. That is how good this venue is. I got rejected the first time I tried, but the second time I got in. A part of my soul left me in Berghain, and I cannot wait until the next time I go to this venue. This is my favorite electronic club in the world, by far, nothing comes close to it.

Came a 2nd time during a later visit to Berlin, with the intent of checking it out on Sunday. We actually arrived early at 8am, and got rejected. Then showed up again around 3pm (wearing the exact same clothes) and made it in. So my recommendation is to come later for easier entry as the club is probably a little emptier. It still had a fair amount of people as we entered and the crowd seemed to be more locals than Saturday night. It got busier later in the night. Tips: -ice cream bar also sells smoothies, sandwiches and coffee. Smoothie was quite good -if you do go on Saturday night, the stamp will cover your entrance till Monday morning. So you can go and rest up on Sunday, and then return later in the evening -we left Sunday dinner to grab dinner and some fresh air at a nearby restaurant -Sunday has more locals. Saturday night is quite touristy and has a long line -this time I wore hoodie, black tank top and dark shorts (in pretty cold weather)

I'm 1-for-1 at the Berghain and still to this day... I'm not sure how I managed--especially after getting rejected from Tresor on earlier on in the week. In my mind I was already prepared to get hit with the "nein, next." Honestly I don't think my writing could do this place justice and I've been putting off this review since the moment I left the club. Prior to flying out to Berlin, I did my fair share of research and the closest review that mirrors my experience was the one published on The Vly House by Nick (a must-read if you're a fan of the Berghain or any Berlin nightclub). I rolled up on a Sunday afternoon (Unity Weeeknd, extended holiday), bottle of whitebier in hand, extra clothes in my bag, stank RBF on full. I kicked a few cigarettes while waiting in line just to pass the time while feeling the weight of my phone in my pocket, which I did not dare to pull out. If you're gonna take photos or video, take all of your footage while you are hundreds of meters away. There are cameras outside of the entrance from which the security watch you even before you reach the metal gates. After an hour's wait, I reached the front, eyes fixated on everyone but the security guards. Sven wasn't present, but I think I would've been incontinent of urine had he been there. One of the security members began to ask me questions while the others continued to watch the line from the surveillance TVs inside. He asked me: if I spoke German or English, if I had come alone, where I was from, why I travelled all the way from DC to Berlin, and how old I was. After answering all of his questions, he told me to wait. And it was the longest minute of my life--longer than a treadmill or microwave minute. I felt myself trembling harder than I had during any class presentation, and I tried not to make eye contact with anyone. Finally, the security member waved me inside. After a quick pat down, cover fee of 15 euros, and the precious arm stamp, I had entered church.

One of the most peaceful and accepting places on earth I know. Nowhere else (and I travel alot) did I found a place (i.e. a crowd of people) that is so accepting, open-minded, peacful, tolerant. It is just a perfectly safe, closed area where you literally can do whatever you want without anyone getting offended by that "whatever". Feeling like dancing naked ? Go for it - No one will stare at you / judge you / make stupid jokes etc. Feel like talking to completely strangers from all over the world ? Go for it - very seldom have I gotten strange looks for starting conversations with total strangers. Its just a very safe and welcoming atmosphere. The "safety" is also included in the architecture - there are no dead-ends anywhere. Even in the toilets you always can keep on walking and walking without getting "stuck". Besides it has great great music, one of the best sound system in the world and great DJs - but in my opinion, what makes it so special and unique is the attitude of the majority of the crowd. This obviously doesnt happen "by luck" or "by chance". It is the direct result of their very strict door policy. They try to select (within seconds - only based on outward appearance) who has this tolerant and open mindset and who - on the other hand - might be offended by the stuff going on inside. So if you get rejected, and think they made a "wrong" decision, as you think you have the right mind-set to accept anyone doing anything in front of you - dont be upset - the bouncers are only humans and cannot see "inside your head". They just have to make a very quick decision which they get most of the time right. To get rejected can also happen to regular "church goers". Once you have been inside and experienced the spirit I tried to explain above, you will understand and respect the very important work the bouncers do in order to keep the spirit and "safe-area" feeling inside intact. So if u got rejected, dont be sad/upset/mad; just go to one of the other great clubs of Berlin (e.g. Sysiphos or Golden Gate) and try it again another day with Berghain.

I was in Berlin for pride a few weekends ago and before coming to Berlin had heard that Berghain was the club to go to and man did that ring true. Like I said it was pride weekend and we had other clubs and places that we had planned on going to every night that was recommended by a friend of a friend who is from Berlin and ironically Berghain was not on any of his recommendations. I was a little nervous thinking that we weren't going to make it to this notorious club but our Sunday afternoon plans fell through and we were stuck in a cab in some random neighborhood in Berlin that we knew if we got out of the cab it would be really shitty to try and get another one.....so right then and there I decided hey why not go to Berghain. So at 4:30 Sunday afternoon we show up to an empty que, get to the entrance and make our way with no issues into the club. I did not forewarn my friends I was with about Berghain (oops lol) and let me just say they were terrified walking in haha but once we got a few drinks and headed up to the main area all that melted away (along with our shirts) and we danced for hours and hours and hours. Because it was pride it was a majority gay crowd and even at 4:30 Sunday afternoon the place was packed full of people (I couldn't even imgaine what it would be like on a Saturday night) and the music was loud and relentless. We ended up staying till about 10pm and all walked out of there sweaty, sore, and with the biggest smiles on our face. This was truly one of the best and unique dancing experiences of my life. read more
I came never realizing just how ridiculously hard it was to get in. And, yes, the stories are true. Most people will get rejected. Some fratty douches cut us in line and were super loud and rude. They also had the nerve to speak in German saying how we wouldn't get in because we didn't speak German. Their asses got rejected immediately. I guess the trick was to go with someone who's been there before. The bouncers recognize faces from years ago. They've literally told my friend they remembered him for coming once before...a year prior. It also doesn't hurt to keep your mouth shut, be sober, dress to not impress, and not be in a huge group. Also fobby Asian tourists can forget about it. Felt really bad for them actually...my people... Though with this rejection comes great benefit. The crowd inside is very friendly. Everyone is respectful and just there to have a good time. How refreshing. As for the inside. There was a lot going on. You feel the music in your bones quite literally. The bass is intense. The place itself is like a labyrinth with dark passages and twists and turns. Anything and everything goes when you're inside. Literally everything. I won't go into details, but be prepared for mayhem if you come on the right nights. This place was deeefinitely an experience. If you're lucky enough to get in, I'd highly recommend it. read more

World famous, so you have to go, right? We went at around 2 am on Saturday morning. Got in after about 1 hour of waiting. Yeah, you've got to have a look on your face like you don't care if you get in or not... about 15 people in front of us got rejected... The music was good, the crowd was excellent. The venue was shockingly small though for such an iconic place--only one floor was open. The bathrooms... don't risk going in there. Seriously. It's like going to a bathroom in Tibet. Just a tip for you. read more

Finally went to Berghain. Yes, it is as good as they say it is and then some. I feel it would be sacreligious to divulge details on a public forum, so I will refrain from doing so. All I am going to say is - I am no rookie and it is hard to impress me - I and I am impressed to the point where I am already trying to figure out how/when I can go back to Berlin just so I can go there again. read more

Yahoo i got in...it was as tough as everyone says on here...the bounces got some attitude here But i was friendly and mentioned that i had german friends already inside and just asked if i could go in to meet them have a few drinks and dance with them... It worked and i was allowed to enter "the temple of music" This place is amazing, you will love the music the crowd and the atmosphere...its electric... Be warned its not for the faint hearted you will see hard drugs being used, the rooms are filled with smoke and drug smells, the toilets are used for sex and the crowd leans towards gay and every one is open sexually so if you have a problem that you probably wont fit in here or in fact most places in Berlin... Its well worth the pain of trying to get in because ive never seen anything like it and it deserves the top 3 ranking it has for dance clubs in the world... If heaven was a dance club and god a dj this would be it!!! read more

If you go to Berghain, you'll see how readily people throw away all inhibitions in order to blend in and do as is demanded of them. It's the same mindset that enabled the Holocaust. read more

This place is utterly amazing, great music, cool people. We went at 8 a.m. on a Sunday and there was no line we got right in and had the time of our lives. Once you're in, you can understand why they have such a selective door policy. They want it to be a place where people are free. I can't wait to go back on my next trip to Berlin. read more
I dislike that there is information about Berghain on here. They do a lot of work trying to keep the mystery and the social engineering of this place what they'd like it to be. I will say... It's off the chain, I love hard big room techno and I enjoy grooving tech-house and this place offers both. Techno in Berghain and house in Panorama Bar. This club is the hedonist's dream. I've been allowed entry and denied for reasons that I can only guess, but that's just part of the social engineering. Your best bet is to either speak perfect German or go with a local... although I'd like to mention after dating a German girl for over a year I still wasn't able to speak for myself and be allowed in here. When I was with a local, it went quite smoothly. Once you're in, god damn you're in for a surreal club experience. I won't allow myself to elaborate since I respect what they do here. Just have to say, "Wow" This is THE Techno Temple read more

Dude, I waited in line for an hour an a half behind a two couples of germans. We had a good conversation and were waiting for a good time with our candies in tow. When we get to the line, the foursome in front of the line is given the heave ho...wtf? The homey in the group gave me a peace sign...telling me what is up. I got past the door man...the "security" strip searching all ....found my candy...and he just said..."English or German?"....English ofcourse....then he told me...if u keep the candy u must leave..if u lose the candy u can stay...Ahh....u think I want dick vs fun...will leave mofo. I left.....with a bunch of dudes howling from the lines....whew, got away from that german ass pounding....they r so famous for. read more

This is probably the best club left in Europe, set in an old powerplant. It starts filling up at 2AM, and continues until you manage to leave. I have heard of people getting there on Saturday and leaving on Monday. Huge dance floors, amazing music, cheap drinks, and no lack of things that would be banned in the US, whether sex or drugs. Luckily no cameras are allowed. And the place has not a single mirror. Which can be a good thing. If you are lucky enough to be the list, you will avoid a line that can stretch for hours. Some people get turned away, but if you're there to dance, you will get in. The main bouncer looks like Cyrus from 300 (also a world famous photographer) but don't let it scare you. Basically, a must see before you die. I wish I could describe the things I experienced there, so you'll just have to see for yourself. Wowsers. read more

FANTASTISCHE! Berghain is a true experience, an insane club that really gives you a feel for Berlin's scene. Loved the relentless, pounding music (all techno and deep house) delivered through the incredible sound system. Loved exploring the jaw-dropping, multi-floored industrial setting. Loved the fun, eclectic crowd made up of Berlin locals, scene-y club kids and half-naked (or fully nude) gay dudes. The best thing is that the party runs all weekend, so you can literally arrive Friday night and leave Monday morning. I guess Berghain has a notoriously strict door policy, but we arrived early Sunday night (before midnight) and got in with no wait or hassle. As two foreigners, we approached the door quietly and answered questions in German. For the door and the club itself, I recommend sneakers or boots; you'll be dancing all night and there is broken glass EVERYWHERE. As for dress code, Berghain is extremely casual with a Rick Owens vibe (lots of dark clothing, t-shirts or tank tops for men and women). No button-up shirts, no high heels, nothing you can't sweat and dance in. Get detailed directions before heading out, the club is well hidden on a dark, unassuming street. The cover charge is €14, coat check is €1.50 and drinks are pretty pricey. Otherwise, enjoy this incredible experience! read more

Was on the guest list, visiting from NYC, and the experience was memorable. A stoic aggressive bodyguard patted me up and down, squeezed my buttocks checking for illicit whatevers - it was a total rite of passage. Body guards looked severe and loathing. Don't display any modicum of mirth lol. We went on Easter weekend, so the better part of the dance floors were closed off for SNAX, but the sound system was truly out of this world (Efdemin) and I lost ten pounds over the course of ten hours of dehydration. Also, leather daddies and subs everywhere. Would redo. read more

Dancing with a cig in your hand is very dangerous, I got burnt many times, I know you are prob high-ppy and having a good time, but it doesn't hurt you to smoke outside of the dance floor. Also it's not ok to ask someone you don't know to "smile" , maybe that person isn't smiling because a lot of reasons. Have plenty of rest before you go and always top up food when you are there, it's the way to stay till the end. Berghain closing is the best, there's a magic starts from 7am. read more

There were two gentlemen at the front door, but one was extremely rude with international visitors and even with women. We were well dressed up, and looked forward for having a good night. Unfortunately, the big guy who has a mustache and features of been from middle east said "If you are in Germany, you must speak German" after asking the reason why for not letting us in. We left, and after us a french couple that were kicked out as well. I don't think they were racist, I would say the attitude of this security guy it is something that definitely talks about his own insecurities and lack identity issues, considering that he was the one yelling in german, he was not a "real german". If you want to get or keep a great impression of Germany, ensure yourself of not visiting this club. read more

As a major techno head, this was a box that I really wanted to tick, but wasn't going to let it ruin my weekend if things didn't go as planned. Showed up around 6am (sun was up) Friday night in a group of 3 looking quite starry eyed from our earlier partying at Club Der Visionnaire and Tresor, after getting a no at the door of Arena club :( Waited behind maybe 2 groups, smiled to the doormen, and we were in. Caught Sammy Dee and the beginning of San Proper's set before we decided that we'd been Perlonized enough. Unfortunately Zip was not playing as billed. The following Sunday, took an accidental 7 hour disco nap and headed out to meet friends at Griessmuehle. After 2-3 hours of fun there, we headed to Berghain to once again try our luck for the real deal. Similarly, no line. One hard peek into our souls and we were in again. The full details of this night, I will not unveil, but Answer Code Request and Boris delivered heavily downstairs while XDB, Gerd Janson, and Sadar Bahar rocked Panoramabar thoroughly. Bottom line - If you're really about that life and love dancing to techno, partying with people of all walks, etc. This is the place for you. For those who are coming because they read about it in Thump or some other magazine, but don't even have a passing interest in techno - STAY AWAY. read more

Berghain's only door policy is attitude. Once you're inside, you understand they don't filter by your look - it's how you carry yourself. This place oozes sex and confidence, but there's an entire range of what that could mean. The "no picture" policy means dressing and being your complete self. Hedonist heaven. read more

First of all. I think the bad reviews being posted are kind of unclear. Some people went to Berghain to say "Yeah, I was in" and that's the opposite of the people they want to have in there. Also the people looking for "thin and beautiful people" or for the stylish and cool people, come on, it's the atmosphere and the music that counts in Berghain. Berghain has the relaxed atmosphere. You can chill on couches at several places, sit down and have a chat. You are sleepy? Take a nap and no one finds you weird or strange. That's what it's about. No one inside is judging. When it comes to judging, the door policy is also a good thing they do. It's not about being dark clothed or being hip or young or beautiful. They want to have the relaxed people who enjoy Berghain for what it is, an isolated world in which you can drop off your schedules and start enjoying. I mean you shouldn't wear high heels or come with a suit but I think this is pretty clear. Come as you are. If you get rejected, try again, wait for another hour or try a week later. I was wearing a dark coat and black jeans with Nike Airs. We were a group of 4, me as male and three women. We split up me and a girl, and the other 2 girls. We got in even though the doorman asked her age because she looks young and then they checked everything we had on us, also opened my box of cigarettes, took out all cards in my wallet and let us enter. After paying the entry fee, 15€, we walked around a bit because it was the first time for three of us. The music on the main floor was amazing. Dark, trippy Techno made lose your mind while dancing. The DJ was a genius, he knew what he was doing and the people were amazed. The music equipment was awesome, too. the bass was damn hard but the high tones didn't get lost in the bass. Upstairs at the Panorama Bar the music is more relaxed, you can dance but when you are used to the music downstairs, it seems a bit too slow. But after dancing a few minutes you'll get in the vibe of the Panorama Bar. And the people. Amazing, nice people. Met so many people, talked to them, had a nice time. Also the dancing, some people are shaking their bodies of to the music and motivate you to dance harder and that's what you're doing. Dancing hard, enjoying the music. Also the hype about it. I mean yes, there is sex, there are naked people dancing, there are all those gay guys but like I said, it's isolated from the outside world, you are able to do anything you want in Berghain. And that's what they are doing. A guy entered Berghain and then started changing his male clothes to females clothes and then he started raving, nothing bad about it, is it? So. If you are into electronic music, are passionate about it, enter Berghain and enjoy yourself. If you get tired, go back to your flat/hotel/we have a shower, sleep, eat and go back again because the party doesn't end until Monday morning. Everything stays there for almost a whole weekend. You leave, you enter again, it's waiting for you. read more

If you're a veteran of the underground 'rave' scene then you can probably remember going to many places like Berghain, but paying about one tenth of the entry fee that Berghain charges. You probably also remember that security staff and fashion police were utterly absent from the door at real underground events, and that entry was granted on a first-come-first-serve basis. If you can remember parties like that, then Berghain will probably make you feel like a tiger in a big game reserve: even if you can't see the fences, you still know that they are there. They keep you in line while they keep everybody else out. If you haven't been to real underground parties, then a night at Berghain might give you the same rush that a housecat feels when it's let loose in the backyard for its first time. Berghain's openness and freedom may seem endless to someone who is already 'housebroken' by a more rigid and comercial style of clubbing... but just because you're too tame to push at the boundaries doesn't mean that they don't exist. Clubs like Berghain didn't invent the underground, they put walls around it. They tax people for something that should be free, and regulate something that should be spontaneous. If you're fine with being told how to enjoy yourself and when and in what clothing, then by all means go to Berghain. Standing in line for hours without knowing if you're going to get in is the punishment you deserve. And in case you're wondering, yes I did get in AND I didn't have to wait. I'm giving Berghain two stars because the doorstaff made my friends (who started queueing at the same time as me) wait nearly two hours longer to get in. Their door policy is just so senseless that it ruins what would otherwise be a decent night out. Verdict: yes, the venue is exceptional but the establishment that it represents is not. And as for it's street cred - well, Berghain is about as underground as the Fernsehturm. read more

To be frank, I was skeptical when I was being told that we're going to a place called "Berghain", didn't like the sound of that -- sounds posh. It's quite the opposite. I can only say so much that in retrospective I don't regret the 1-hour line (that's at 4am in the morning) or the 10EUR entrance fee. This place is simply amazing. Don't bother coming here if you don't like it dirty -- and I mean that with respect to both location and music. We went on a Friday night, which basically means minimal techno on one floor, and hard step on the other (there is a third floor, which was closed for some reason). The atmosphere already grasps you when still waiting outside. You just look at this massive free-standing block of concrete which is an abandoned power station, the laser lights beaming down at you through the huge windows, accompanied by the low-frequency humming of the massive sound system, and you're almost peeing your pants because you want nothing more than getting past the annoying doormen. Speaking of which. Face control here is ridiculously hard. If I were to guess, I'd say that 25-30% of people get rejected at the door. We got in with a drove of 8 people, but you have to be clever about it. Don't shout or behave inappropriately while in line, don't behave drunk even when you are, and try to get past the door in groups of at most 3 people (mix men and women). Although there is no official dress code, I suggest you dress casual, but not boring. If you look boring, you probably get rejected (which is good, they want people to dance in there). Inside the building, I can just say it's HUGE. I lost my bearings quickly, which may or may not be because of my progressed intoxication with beer and champagne (did I mention it was 4am?). I love the inner architecture, it looks really torn down, the walls are extremely tall (I would guess about 10-15m) giving this place a surreal atmosphere. Bar keepers were very friendly and prices just about normal for a club. Toilets are uni-sex, which considering how equally wasted everyone is, is not much of a problem I guess. The only thing I found annoying about this place is that at some point they turn the volume up to a level where it's simply brain damaging. I hate it when they do this in clubs (I already have my tinnitus, thanks.) I can only conclude by saying that this is probably the coolest club I've ever been to, you can literally spend a whole night at this place without getting bored. The people are cool, the music is cool, and the location is super-cool. I can't wait to come back here. read more

Rad, so so rad. Worth the unbelievable hype? I mean it's a club at the end of the day. I don't know. But the music was tight, the drinks were good, the vibe was so good, very unlike the yucky club vibes in NY clubs, none of that desperation and anxiety in the air. Everyone was super chill and the space itself is insane. So cool. Definitely want to try and go again. read more

I traveled to Berlin with a friend and heard all about the Berghain club and the night life. I went to check it out and see if it was actually all true. There was only 2 people outside waiting to get in aside from us. The bouncer at the door was one of the rudest people I have encountered. The bouncer started to yell in part German and English to me for us to get out. I don't belong here. I asked what are the requirements to get in. The bouncer told me we don't need to explain our requirements. Apparently there is some open door policy that allows for discrimination. I can't believe in 2017 this would still be acceptable. Steer clear of this place unless you want to waste your night. This place should be shut down. On top of it all, more than 5 people on the walk to the club tried to sell me drugs. Definitely not a good area. read more

It is no surprise why Berghain is repeatedly voted the best club in the world. It is the center of the Berlin electro-scene and constantly houses great and amazing DJs. The sound system is world class and the actual club provides a great scene to party all night. Anything goes in Berghain and you can loose yourself there if you have the means to stay up all day and night. The door men are hard, but they hard hard for a reason. The club attracts everyone and anyone, so they need to be selective. Best bet on getting in is to break up into small groups. Do not be loud, do not speak English and look like you have been in before. Knowing who is playing is also key because sometimes they will ask. Being loud, speaking English and looking lost will get you immediately rejected. Expect a long queue at any from 00:00-03:00. If you want to wait for less than an hour in line then come at any time after 03:00. If you want to breeze straight in come at 10:00. This place screams Berlin so expect to party all night. Entry fee is around 12 EUR. read more

The best club I've been to. In the middle of nowhere you will find a very long queue into an abandoned looking powerhouse building. The bouncers turn away every 2nd or 3rd person and you worry whether or not you would 'make it in'. Super sound system. Awesome ambience with some alleys and 'booths', giant metal swing, I saw some guys in bondage. Most people aren't though. Two sections - panorama bar and the main area (not sure what it's called - more techno). Heard it's open from Friday until Sunday. Drinks not that expensive. No cameras - confiscated. A must visit. read more

The coolest club currently in Berlin, hands down - judging by the massive queues there every weekend. The club has the same owners as the legendary Ostgut club, which is featured in the documentary about the Berlin club scene, Don't forget to go home. It's set in an old industrial warehouse/factory - like a smaller version of the Tate Modern in London. The inside is actually divided into 2 distinct areas: Panorama Bar, open all weekend; and Berghain, which is only open on Sat nights. On Sat, the club opens at midnight and closes late on Sun evening. The atmosphere is quite different in the 2 areas. The Panorama bar hosts top international djs, such as Laurent Garnier or Carl Craig, plus some very talented local djs playing cutting edge minimal house and electro. Berghain, on the other hand, is a massive dark smokey cavern playing hard techno a to predominantly half naked, gay audience Unfortunately, the queues are absolutely horrendous, so it's best to plan your visit very early (ie before 1am) or arrive a little later and take your chances around 4am or 5am. Otherwise expect to queue for a minimum of 1.5 hours and it's not uncommon to have a queue at 7am, as quite a popular option is to go solely for the day session. As mentioned in previous reviews, one thing to note is the very strict door policy. The door staff can be intimidating and they seem to turn people away randomly - although groups of slightly geeky guys speaking loudly in foreign languages don't do themselves any favours. I've been told that the reason they never have any presales is so they can keep complete control over who gets in. Well fair play to them, they can afford to. One thing I love about Panorama Bar is when sun comes up, they open the shutters on the windows to let the sunlight in and the crowd goes wild. They say you see the light :-) read more

Berghain doors policy FAIL. In 1977 Studio 54 @ New york was the first club with doors policy, VIP area,... you had to be "cool" and correspond to a kind of norm to be selected. This kind of system spread a reputation of a good venue. It also keep the club in a dominant position. In the other hand this attitude is the best way to get quickly a lot of boring peoples too, people that need a validation from a supreme entity (Berghain) to feel cool, underground or whatever. Personally, I hat any kind of doors policy. I don't want to fit a 'underground atmosphere', basically i don't want to FIT any thing. Segregation and quota definitely sucks. read more

The area is sketchy and scary. Outside on the venue people were selling drugs. I waited in line to just get rejected because I did not have the look they were looking. You have to wear all black and be German. Don't waste your time and safety. read more

I only went to Panorama Bar (and the Laboratory), and I can say that this club felt like what raves used to feel like in the mid to late 90s. The layout is interesting, multi-level, and has many different spaces to congregate in. I was surprised at how friendly the crowd was. Seriously. Not much attitude. Maybe I am jaded... who knows. yes, there were a bunch of hipsters, but thankfully, none of the irritating and entitled attitudes like they have in the USA. I like that it is a very mixed club. Not just sexuality-wise, but nationality-wise as well. Did I mention that there were two women wacking (similar to vogueing)? Sure, they weren not on beat at all, and they were doing a memorized routine from youtube, but who cares? It was interesting to watch. I watched this person buy a fizzy water... and then this person walked up to me and offered me some of it. Who does that? Apparently, the Swiss do. So the downside is that everywhere, it is smokey. My hair and clothes smelled terrible after a short amount of time. Oh, and the Asian chick from LA, asking me for weed. Uhm, zou realize you completely proved my point about people from LA having a lot to live down in terms of attitude? Yeah, super guarded, entitled, having no interest in anyone else, and bitchy muuuuuch? And you still don´t understand whz people won´t give zou what you want???? When you scream loudly "I don´t give a f**k!!!" They already know. It is THAT clear. Please have some respect for other people, and other places, and the other people in those places...who also happen to be much nicer. read more

Oh my god, fantastic...Thats the first thing that comes up in my mind when thinking of Berghain. Berlins underground club scene meets industrial dark electro meets extreme crowd on drugs meets a neverending party. Weve been told to go here on a Sunday morning (yes..in the morning), and they couldnt have been more right. After waking up at 7, we found ourselves standing in queue at 8 oclock in the morning...And thats not uncommon. Inside its packed..:) The bouncers look like your worst nightmare so make sure to act cool. Inside, no cameras are aloud, and you wont find any mirrors (no worries about makeup what so ever..). The toilets are multifunctional, no gender difference. The crowd is what makes the club; old/young, gay/drag, international, tattoo/pierced ect. A great mixed atmosphere, and everybody is eachothers new friend. The chill out / dark room area downstairs has a magnificent collection on photo(-porn)graphy, and theres a icecream lounge upstairs. The main bar on the first floor reminds you of the Roman Empire and the second floor looks a bit like an old warehouse. The music..well, if youre a lover of underground electro/techno...Youll probably end up in heaven. Dont forget to dress up, nothing is too extreme as you find people wearing nothing but a thong and high heels, men in skirts, and girls with purple hearcuts. This is by far one of the best venues Ive ever been to..! Tip: Dont go there in a group..And be happy if you get in, they refuse lots... read more

Until such time as these bastards let me in, I'm giving them one star. We queued for an hour at 7am and got turned away at the last, in a group of 2 people. And the worst thing, it makes me want to go back even more. If you'd had no joy here, I would recommend walking over to Rosi's instead, where you have no such problems. read more

I think Berghain is over. I used to go here since 2005, and then, I really loved the place. there was a regular crowd, we greeted each other whilst dancing, you got to speak to mayn people, everybody was very excited about being there - and listening to great music. Thie mix was about 70% Gay 30% SAtraight, but most of the Gay crowd stuck to the ground floor, and the rest stuck to the panorama bar Now, the place is a bit of a tourist trap. Hardly anyone is from Berlin itself - which is not a problem - but it does make a difference to the crowd - as there is not this feeling that you might see this person again Last time I was there - I left, absolutely furious because every second Italian person in the club asked me if I knew where they could get E... Some characters from Berghain have disspeared. Hopefully we meet again some day ;) read more

Berghain is love, except when it gets sloppy. When you start to notice that the people around you are no longer aware that they're still on this planet, it's probably time for you to go home too. Apart from that there's really nothing I can say here that hasn't already been said. If you haven't been to the Berghain at least once, make it happen at least just one time. read more

This place is a haven for ego inflation and Berlin elitism. I don't understand the impression people have in this place being some sort of techno heaven in which magic happens the second you walk in the door. Truth is unless you're there for the crazy side of it, dark rooms and naked dudes, then this really isn't all that. The media loves it, mixed in with some crazy tales, and then add along the strict door policy, and what you have is something people desire. Our society is easily spoon fed desire by the media and that's where Berghain tales of magic happen. If naked sweaty dudes taking dumps on the floor and pissing as they please, all while butt pounding fist pumping meth'd out rages going on, then this is your place. Truth is most don't give a shit about the music, they only care about the party and the next butt to pound. Which there is absolutely nothing wrong with if that's your thing, but techno and good vibes is my thing, and out of my four times being inside, including a few 20+ hour marathons, I've never felt that. The door policy alone speaks for that. I know countless people who live eat breath techno, but they don't fall into what Berghain lets into the door nor do they know someone special to get them into the door, so therefore they lose out on amazing music inside. That's terrible seeing that a lot of DJs specifically play only at Berghain in Berlin, so sucks for you, but no music for you. Then I know countless people whom don't give a single crap about techno, and they get right in on regular basis. They couldn't care who is playing, they just want to get into Berghain. If you're a regular person, go between 7-10am Sunday. Saturday night is a tourist attraction and the line goes for hours, most are turned away. If you get denied, there are TONS is awesome techno clubs around Berlin, like Tresor, About Blank, Magdalena, Arena, Suicide Circus, etc, the list goes on. read more

I didn't want to fly all the way from the US and spend hours in line trying to get into Berghain and then be rejected. I booked an experience on Airbnb called "Get in the Club, I will get you in". It was the best decision worth every penny. They helped me get the right dress code, hair and make up, and let my boyfriend borrow a gladiator looking outfit. The preparation was at their place while drinking champagne. They went with us and got us in, showed us all the areas of the club including some secrets and danced with us for a few hours as friends. They go to any club in Berlin. I highly recommend it. read more

Overrated techno club in a bunker. Straight or gay, you need to come here rolling on drugs or you're going to be real tired before the party gets good at 6 or 7am. Was never denied entry and always got in easy, but cover is usually 10 or 15€. They tape the cameras on your cellphone and bagcheck you before you enter, so obviously, no pics allowed. It's not the whole shaggy sloppy shebang that people say it is. Sure people make out in the alcoves and human sized cubby holes but it's a club...! It's really hard to get the bartenders attention and everyone's hankering for drinks or coffee so come very tipsy but not so tipsy that you'll be rude to the doorman. What else... Don't order a Bloody Mary there, they won't make it right. Both times I went there the techno act was weak. There seemed to be a perpetuate bass blasting with little or no buildup or breakdown. Second floor was panorama bar with more endless blasting techno and some house-y undertones. Nothing spectacular. It's as crowded at 7am as it is at 1am. Brace yourself for dirty floors and sweaty pits. In my opinion this isn't as fun as a small DIY rave; it's not intimate and everyone looks the same: skinny, white, toned and cool. If you thought the line at the entrance was long, prepare for a longer (and grosser) wait at the bathrooms. People take forever and it gets smelly and crowded in there. byo toilet paper :) PS - When I was there for CTM electronic music festival in 2013 they blocked off many parts of the space, which made the vibe less interesting as the crowd was only allowed on the first floor. Deon was playing and I reckon the sound guys really upped the bass too much so it just sounded like bomb drops before approaching the floor. read more

Vielen Dank, mein allerbestes Bergi!!! read more

First of all, in 2017, tattoos, piercings, and looking freakish does NOT show individuality. In fact, my contention is that one is more of an individual in today's world if they have no tattoos, piercings, and freakish looks. Anyone who remembers how the Love Parade was back in the 90s, and the illegal rave scenes in the U.S. and western Europe in the 80s and 90s will tell you that techno die hards come in all shapes and sizes. Unfortunately, the majority of the people who's lifestyle revolves around the philosophy of techno will be rejected from Berghain. True, it's door policy is not really racist, xenophobic, or xenoglossophobic as some have said. However, if you are a foreigner or part of an ethnic group, it won't help your situation with the bouncers, and you will probably get rejected. Don't analyze it too much if you get turned away. Most of the rumors about the club are sensationalized. If you won't take "nein" for an answer, and just have to get inside to see what the overhyped fuss is about, then go on an early Sunday morning. As someone who has ventured inside before, I understand the need for prohibiting the typical alpha-male "bro," or bimbo-twerking gal types from entering and giving it a bad rep. The truth is that most techno clubs in Berlin do a fine job of this already, but in Berghain you will sometimes find these types inside due to the real fans of this music getting rejected, or them not wanting to wait in a long queue in the cold only to be told "Go away," in German. There are loads of other clubs in Berlin and the rest of Germany that are not tourist traps. Berghain is a tourist trap. Sisyphos, Watergate, Tresor, Suicide Circus, and aboutblank will probably give you more enjoyment, and tend to be less pretentious. If you are backpacking in West Germany, a personal favorite of mine would be Mikroport near Dusseldorf. While Berghain's music and sound system are great, the simple fact that my brothers and sisters within the rave scene have been denied entry into the club on numerous occasions for no logical reason prohibits me from giving this a positive review. If enough people simply stopped coming, the door policy would eventually let up. Remember, at the end of the day, this is a business! read more

Attacked by racist bouncers. My girlfriend and I are an interracial queer couple (my girlfriend is black and I am white). Many of our friends had recommended Berghain to us so we thought we'd give it a go. We visited on a Sunday as it would be quieter. We queued up and all of the people in front of us (who just so happened to be white) got let in. When it came to my girlfriend, the doorman said "no,you're not coming in. I don't like the look of you". My girlfriend replied "why?" when another doorman grabbed her from behind and threw her on the floor. As she got up, he punched her so hard in the face that I heard it. As she got up, shaken and in pain, all 4 of the bouncers started laughing. We shouted at the bouncers that we were calling the police. We stood about 20m away from the entrance, when 2 female staff members came out of the club and threatened us and told us to leave. When we explained what happened and that we were calling the police, the women started hitting us and then grabbed us and dragged us to some benches about 50m away, whilst the doorman who punched my girlfriend followed behind them. Eventually when the police came they spoke to the doorman but it was clear that they didnt care. As we were leaving, a local couple came up to us and said that Berghain is notorious for being racist and violent to black people. PLEASE DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU ARE A POC, IT IS NOT SAFE. After what we were hoping would be a fun night, my partner and I are traumatised. Her jaw is swollen and sore when she chews or talks. My wrists are sore from where the female staff members grabbed them up. Please boycott Berghain. They employ aggressive and dangerous people, and willingly uphold, exercise and defend racism and violence against POC. read more

Berghain is amazing, once you are in that is. As a bit of a veteran I have been rejected just about as many times as I have got in, but every bit of rejection has been worth the amazing times I have had there. If you want to get in, be smart. Go in on your own or just 2 people, obviously it is a gay club, so girls are less likely to get in than guys. Go early, the easiest time to get in is between 12-1am, this time is also when the line moves the fastest so you won't have to wait so long, if you don't want to go out that early go get your stamp and then go home. Don't wear clothes that make you stand out, this makes it easier to get in the second time if you don't get in at first. Go away for an hour or so and then try again. Don't take it personally, half the time its just luck, its not cos you are, asian, black, white, gay, straight, you aren't looking like a hipster or what ever else you can think of, it is just random luck, often to do with who is around you in the queue for example if there is a group of drunken English (just an example, no offence meant!) being loud and rowdy, then there is more of a chance that quiet, normal acting people behind them will get in. read more

No pensamos volver. read more

This "club" will not accept foreigners, people with dark skin, Asian features, English speakers, or anyone that appears to have more money or class than the bouncers (Which I do). If you belong in any of the groups mentioned, save your precious vacation time and spend your money at Tresor, which is the place that Berghain attempts to copycat. Just about everyone being turned away was either black, Asian, or white/non-German. Apparently the city of Berlin allows this establishment to discriminate against people they think are inferior to them. It does not matter how you are dressed, or what theme the place has for the night. English speakers, black people, and Asians are not accepted here. Don't waste your time. read more

I will be very happy when they shut down this racist, utterly nazi germanized shithole. If you are not white, look weird or and not speak german you can forget it. This place is famous exactly for that and people still want to be masochistic. I wanted to try but when I saw those NAZIES called bouncers how they treat people especially those who are slightly brown or any other than white and weird, even yelling and pushed away people, I said to myself NO THANKYOU. I heard rumors this place is closing down... I hope they do... REQUIREMENT TO ENTER: Be weird, look like a junkie or depressed, speak/ be german, be white, look old and dress like Satan's worshipper. Those bouncers definetely love Adolph H. read more
