Berger is one of Chef Luis Castillo Cordero's restaruants, located near the far end of Lote 23, an open-air, terraced location filled with food kiosks, picnic tables, soft lighting and (often) old-school salsa playing in the background. Smitten at first bite, the burgers are remarkably delicious. We returned often during our 9 month stay in PR. We brought friends and family. Each one of them, after having taken their first bite remarked "This is the best burger I've ever had". The flavor presents without the copious amounts of grease and juice in what often is called a delicious burger. Burger juice will not drip all over your hands and will not soak into the bun until the whole thing disintegrates into a soggy mess. Chef Castillo parters with a baker for delicious buns which fit the burger perfectly and hold their own and maintain the integrity of the burger until the last bite. And, as with his other places such as Jelty, he cooks with locally sourced ingredients (with tomatoes rivaling the Jersey tomato.) For burger fans - this place alone could be worth a trip to Puerto Rico (and bring your vegetarian friends - he's got you covered.) read more
