When in Alberta one must indulge in some quality Alberta beef! Picked up some burgers for dinner…read morerecently from this amazing local Calgary butcher shop. Also a bottle of jerk seasoning which at the time of this review remains unopened in my pantry. The burgers were juicy and delish. This is a modern version of an old skool butcher shop where you can get pretty much any cut of meat your heart desires. Definitely carnivore heaven. These local butcher shops used to be on every neighbourhood block one time ago. But with prepackaged mass factory meat they have become a thing of the past. Good eats!

These patties are smaller than the others they have for sale but were perfect for what I needed them for, which was a large family BBQ. 36 patties will run you about $45 from what I remember so they are on the pricier side for 4 oz patties but they were as close to my homemade hand pressed ones that I make. If you are looking for a great tasting lean burger without that gristly fatty mass produced grocery store frozen taste then come here. They also had fresh patties that appeared to have a higher fat content, also had some with bacon and seasoned; personally I like as little extras in my burgers, typically an 80/20 mix and salt and pepper right before grilling. The brisket burger will need to be lightly seasoned before grilling. Saw around 5 guys working behind the counter cutting and wrapping meat like total pros, and the place is impeccably clean, only downside is their website isn't great and there is no product or pricing on it and if you do go in some of the pricing is on the higher end, once the weather warms up I will pop in for a few steaks to try them out.

My…read morefriend and former Walmart coworker who now works there told me to come and see him about some soup bones at 4:30PM at their store. I went in with my wife and asked the manager at the counter for my friend as he was expecting to see me at that time. The manager was annoyed at my inquiry about his employee and said and I QUOTE, "I am not STUPID to call him on the line when he is working!" When I told him that I was only here for some soup bones my friend put aside for me, the manager brudgeningly went to a freezer, pulled out a bag of soup bones, and with an irritated voice, "HERE is the soup bones!" and shoved the bag in my face! I put the bag of soup bones on the counter as I decided to no longer make s purchase and said to the manager, "you should not be so agitated and rough with old clients like me!" and The manager motioned my wife and I with his hands to leave the premises. As we proceeded out the door, I mentioned to the manager that "this is not what I expect from people in our community of Strathmore when we been living here since 1986!" My wife and I were in COMPLETE shock on the manager's mistreatment, disrespect, and verbal abuse and will no longer be patronizing this establishment. Please SHARE and let others know of my TERRIBLE customer experience we got at Pure Country Meat. Save yourself from the abuse, and suggest you go elsewhere!

We thought is was an Italian restaurant at first from the outside. Then we thought it was a butcher shop until we finally decided to check it out for ourselves. I think if it read "Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwich Shop" then it would be much clearer. But besides that, that food is impeccable!! First, lets start with the Authentic Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwich, after taking the first bite it makes you just want more. The meat has a distinguished taste to it. It is so juicy and rich, it makes your taste buds call out for more. The toasted light rye bread adds a nice crunch as you bite into this juicy sandwich. You also can choose your choice of mustard such as French's, grainy, Dijon, honey spice, house, horseradish and keens. Second, the Roasted Turkey Sandwich, that has roasted turkey, capicola ham, roasted red pepper mayo, red onion and havarti cheese, grilled and served on light rye bread or wrap. I personally had the light rye bread. Again, this was just to die for. Juicy turkey and ham, with just the right amount of roasted red pepper mayo with all the toppings was amazing. If you love turkey sandwiches, then you will defiantly love this one. It hits the top of my list. After finishing this amazing sandwich you crave more because it is just that good. Third, the Reuben Steame Hotdog. WOW! Need I say more. Famous steamed Nathan's all beef hotdog topped with authentic Montréal smoked meat, gouda cheese, polish sauerkraut, cucumber pickled relish and your choice of mustard. First bite into the soft fresh bun followed by a juicy bed of smoked meat and hotdog. It is like a orgy in your mouth. All the flavours of the two different meats followed by the cheese and added toppings will take your taste buds to a whole other dimension. To wash down this amazing food, I had the Boylan's Old Fashioned Soda - Root Beer. Has a bit of a bite to it as you first take a sip. Makes me want to try some of their other flavors such as creme, black cherry, grape, gingerale and orginal. All of your sandwiches and hotdogs come with a small cup of chips, a small cup of coleslaw and a pickle. Brings you back to when you were a kid on a family picnic. Amazing!!! Prices are very worth it. Average price is around $8.00.

I have spent many a birthday or anniversary at a local Grocery Outlet or favorite Health Food Store, Forget Disneyland - grocery stores are where the real magic happens. And Rusticana is one such blessed spot. We had just arrived in Canada in the late evening and I wasn't having much luck at two bigger grocery stores in Calgary. There was a staleness about them. They didn't feel right. And so driving through Canmore - my husband suggested I see if there were any grocery/health stores open in the area. It was nearing 11 in the evening and most of the area was quiet. I was surprised to see that there was indeed one darling store open - Rusticana. I had a good feeling - the moment I read its name aloud - and proudly announced to my husband: "This is the one." We pulled up and I ran out. It was close to their closing time, but the kind man behind the counter smiled at me and encouraged me to look around. The place was beautifully curated with magical grocery gems everywhere. I kept on ooohing and aahing down every aisle. There was non dairy milk, specialty fresh meats, freshly baked goods, and soooo much more. There was so much goodness packed into such a cute space. I could have spent hours in Rusticana - but I quickly grabbed some fun finds and made my way to the counter to pay. Pure happiness beamed from my face. We went to many other grocery stores throughout our time in Canada - but none spoke to me quite the same way that lovely Rusticana did. If you're in the area and looking for a treat - stop in here. Trust.
