Very much enjoyed this meal. We got the salmon bowl and tuna bowl which we really enjoyed. Especially after reading the reviews we were a bit concerned. But I'm everything was fresh and the flavours really did well to my palate. Although, we did not enjoy the dynamite roll as much. Okay for a fast food sushi bar but we have had much better. The food basically has no flavor. I just ate the gyoza . Wasted $15. I am going to get something else. read more

Passable for a quick meal in a terrific location. (Rideau Centre) Staff were a bit clueless and there were way too many flies in this place. But, I wanted ramen so I got the pork. Dining in, you should get the nice bowls they have but I got a take out container. Not a big deal but just know this is a wooden chopstick, paper napkin kinda place. And you have to ask for the napkins. And if there are any, they control the condiments. Not a date place, lol! The food was fine but super basic. Smaller portion for $12. For "fast food" sushi, this place is pretty decent. I have eaten here a couple times form the grab-and-go section, and we have also ordered a sushi burrito with a focus on salmon. My grab-and-go go-to is the Steelhead salmon volcano roll which can be found as an individual role or as part of the Fiji special combo: cucumber and avocado roll topped with salmon, massage, spicy mayo and something else I can't quite identify, but it's yummy. The sushi burrito was not what I expected. The fillings are pre-determined mixes based on your choice of fish: for example, if you choose salmon, your burrito will be filled with a blend of small squares of salmon, cucumber, avocado, all marinated in what I think is sou sauce. There are a couple other things you can add to the burrito, but I had been hoping to choose pieces of salmon, strips of avocado and such - still good though. Really great for some quick and delicious poke at the Rideau Center! I chose to create my own rice bowl with tuna and salmon, avocado, and various veggies over brown rice. I love how they had gochujang (Korean red pepper paste used in bibimbap) as a sauce option! My only compaint is that I would've liked a larger portion of fish! I also wish that they had pre-set combos with more than one type of fish (e.g., tuna and salmon). read more

So I dig ramen.... when I saw that Bento in Rideau Center offered a tonkotsu ramen I thought, "okay, prepare to be horribly disappointed "....... was I wrong! This little place in the mall serves a legit tonkotsu broth - it's got a deep porky flavour, the chashu was really good and for a mall food stand I was blown away. I pay the same for a sandwich a Subway and this was really surprising. It's a bit small in terms of what you get at other ramen places but what it lacks in quantity it makes up with in quality- no word of a lie, this was as good or better than some of the ramen shops in Ottawa. This place should really get 3 1/2 stars not 3. If you're Christmas shopping st Rideau Center and you're jonesing for some ramen, this is your place. read more

I'm a big fan of sushi! I've tasted lackluster pre-made & massed produced sushi as well as high end, drop dead delicious sushi made by real sushi chefs. When I buy sushi out of a grocery store, I get what I expect and I am ok with that since I never expect that grade of sushi to be particularly spectacular. Grocery store sushi sometimes fills the need and some grocery stores offer better ones than others. When I visited Bento Nouveau at the Rideau center, I expected something in between the grocery store and a decent quality sushi joint. What I ate was as flat as the worst of the grocery store stuff. Nothing wrong with the freshness of the ingredients or the service: those were just fine. The young man who explained the various trays was extremely helpful. But golly gee was the sushi ever bland. The rice: it was a thick & dense blob and totally under seasoned. The fish was also flat (or completely overpowered by the bland rice?). The other thing that bothered me was the lack of description for some of the fancier rolls: it's difficult to see what is in a roll when they are completely smothered in spicy mayonnaise. Quite frankly, at $20 for a tray (Fuji Combo) with a bottle of water, I felt jipped. The other sushi joint in the dinning hall is a better option for low-end "fast" sushi food. read more

Stopped into Rideau Centre super quickly with a coworker over lunch. I had just gone along for the ride and on the way out decided to get some sushi from the grab n go section. I can't remember what it was called but it had shrimp, crab, cream cheese and a few other things in it. It was quite delicious. They have a line for grab n go customers to pay and a line for everyone ordering off the menu but the 3 girls infront of me all had gone in the other line but had grab n go items and one cash accepts credit, while the other doesn't so we all had to wait to go through the one cash although there was a second one. I was afraid the shrimp would be a little soggy because it was breaded but I would definitely get the sushi again - super tasty. read more

Bento Nouveau is a Japanese, fast-food style restaurant. It is located on the first floor of the Rideau Centre in the food court area. Bento Nouveau offers take out style food without waiter service. In terms of the menu, Bento Nouveau offers a wide selection of options when compared to other mall sushi restaurants; they have sushi, salads, udon, soba, gyoza, teriyaki, and Japanese style wraps. Please note that Bento Nouveau does not have EVERY roll combo or salad ready for take out. If you want something they do not have prepared, the staff are always willing to make it. Most meals take 5 to 10 minutes to prepare. Despite the large menu at Bento Nouveau, they do not offer lots of choices if you are vegetarian or vegan; yes they do have the typical veg sushi options like cucumber, avocado and vegetarian rolls. They also offer vegetarian rice wraps and vegetarian udon or soba soups. It would be nice if they had more vegetarian combo options, however you can build your own combo with the employees when they're not too busy. Also, if you are vegetarian or vegan, please double check to make sure the miso soup does not contain fish. Most fast-food style sushi restaurants don't use fish bouillon for their miso to cut costs. However, I distinctively remember tasting fish broth in the miso at BN. Now obviously it's unfair to compare mall sushi to something you'd order at a sit down restaurant; in order for the meals to be prepared quickly, most ingredients are prepped before hand. This allows quick meal assembly but does sacrifice some of the freshness. None the less, do not let this dissuade you from eating at Bento Nouveau; I have never had a bad meal at BN. I eat here at least once a month. The fish is as fresh as fast food sushi can be. This means that the fish arrives frozen and is thawed as needed. The soba is flavourful, as is the teriyaki. BN uses proper sushi rice, which is always fresh and well seasoned. For around 10$, you can get an excellent and healthy meal, which is more than most of the other restaurants in the Rideau Centre food court offer. read more

It actually has a big sign that says "SUSHI", and "Bento Nouveau" in small print below it, so people may not even know what it's actually called. Most people will head to ByWard Market to check out one of many sushi bars, but if you're in the mood for sushi and already at the mall, and if you're short on time or just too lazy to walk to the Market, Bento Nouveau is not a bad choice. Their sushi is made fresh daily, and you have the option of ordering to be made, or pick up one of their pre-made containers in the fridge. They have many different types of sushi and rolls. They have your standard bean curd, California rolls, cooked shrimp, tuna, salmon, spicy salmon, roe, and imitation crab meat. There are different varieties, and some are made with brown or white rice, seaweed wrap or rice paper, and there are vegetarian options as well, all for reasonable prices. The service is also pretty fast and they're all very sweet and accommodating. We were tourists in the area looking for a quick dinner, and found this place in the mall. The food was good - we had the udon bowl, ramen bowl, and rice bowl with chicken. The pork with the ramen is delicious - probably not the healthiest, but delicious. The udon bowl was good and so was the chicken bowl. I prefer dark meat teriyaki chicken, but this okay. Good service. Would try the other items if we were in the area. read more
