This place is absolutely adorable. We couldn't get a reservation, so we ate at the bar. We had the sweetest and most professional bartender. We had fabulous Campari drinks, they were superbly made. I had the eggplant parmigiana that came with a big side Caesar, everything was great. The side of broccoli rabe did not disappoint. We got cannolis to go, but the fridge in our hotel room didn't actually work, so we didn't have them the next time we were hungry. They looked amazing, and I'm sure they were. I adore everything about this place.

I have been wanting to go to Benny's since they opened quite a while back, but hadn't managed to get it. This time, in advance of a concert I made sure to get a reservation. I'm glad I did! The service was great! Out server chatted with us about cocktails and watched over us without being too pushy. The atmosphere is straight out of Philly. The decor is all Philly, all the time. Super cute! We really enjoyed our meals. The chopped salad was a tad heavy on iceberg lettuce and spicier than I like, but my partner was enthralled. The garlic knots were yum and plenty garlicky! My fettuccine bolognese was just how I wanted it. Pasta was perfectly al dente. My partner enjoyed her classic spaghetti and meatballs, but not that they were denser than she really liked and a touch salty. We shared the cannoli, which were fantastic. It's a great spot!

Service: incredible service. The male bar tender although at first seemed quiet and maybe could be taken as uninterested quickly opened up. The female bartender was happy and talkative from the start. Attentive, caring, and the owner was even getting into conversation. Beautiful people in a beautiful establishment. Ambiance/atmosphere: idk where to begin. It is perfect. Everything you would want in a casual fine dining experience. Dim, but bright while Being quiet but so full of life. The bar was perfect and the seated tables have perfect space and comfortability. Bar seats aren't known to be all that comfortable, but I could have sat there all night. The type of place you could have a first, second, and even a wedding night date, but also feel comfortable enough to talk sports. Food: This food was so incredible that I attended 3 times. I was in Portland for a week and ate there 3 out of those 7 days. After the first meal I knew I needed more. I even got food to go on my way to the airport, late for my flight but by no means worried. Worst case scenario I miss the flight and eat at Bennys again tomorrow is all I thought it myself. Unfortunately I made it. Let's Talk food Philly cheesesteak: as the owners were Philly Italians, you can imagine that it was perfect. The most amazing chewy, but crispy soft semolina stick with perfectly cooked 8oz shaved ribeye with cooper sharp melted in and all sitting in that perfect loaf of bread. This Philly was purchased all 3 times. Absolutely amazing. Chicken Parmesan: a perfectly crispy, Juicy, savory chicken cutlet underneath a perfect in house made marinara and mozzerela. The choice of a side salad that had the perfect dressing to go along with an amazing crisp fresh crunch.(also can be enjoyed with an amazing spaghetti). This masterpiece could also be served on another fresh baked semolina stick and you can imagine it just brought it to the next level. Truly a perfect chicken parm. I'll Be perfecting my cutlets until I can match these. Desserts: The tiramisu was perfect, the best I've ever had. It was creamy, rich, and had the most perfect coffee flavor. The best part is it was the perfect cool not cold temperature. Just amazing. Cannolis: Two very large cannolis come in an order and they're perfect. From the sweet, rich, but citrusy ricotta filling to the perfect crispy shell they were heaven in each bite. I got a second order my first time and my next two times I got 2 orders straight away. I'll be waiting to enjoy these again. Best cannolis around. Espresso martini is by far the best I've ever had. Highly recommend. My next trip to Portland, I'll definitely be reserving tables for each day that I'm there. Bennys I'll be back and that is a promise.

I have been waiting patiently for my time to finally try out Bennys, as it seemed the perfect backdrop for a cold autumn night. Who wouldn't want a classic red sauce joint to hunker down in? Well the atmosphere exceeded all expectations. We went there on a Sunday night as a walk in and were seated in about 10 minutes. It is rather small so i could see this wait being very long on a busier weekend night. The food was incredible cozy italian. We started with the garlic bread which i think is much better steal than the garlic knots for the price. Then we got the meatballs and spaghetti, the mussels and linguine, while i went for the chicken parm with the caesar salad (it says house salad on the menu but you can sub for the caesar which is i think the superior choice is. Every last bite was consumed! my chicken cutlet was huge i could even share is amongst the table. The meatballs were huge! and the clams were wonderfully fresh. We were so full we left with a tiramisu and cannolis to go for later and these were also spectacular. Wait staff was so kind and great at checking in on you as well. Bennys is definitely worth a visit. My only reason this does not get 5 stars was because the food takes FOREVER to come out. The garlic bread came out right away and we waited at least 30 minutes for the entrees after that. I'm not sure if that is normal, but definitely not the place for a quick bite, make sure to have some time. We will be back again!

Oh Benny's everything begins and ends with the quality of the service and here it was wonderful. Every single person on the staff made my wife and I feel welcome and attended to while we waited. It's the kind of spot you can't wait to come back to. The food has been stellar every time and according to my wife the dirty martini is to die for. The steak and cheese hit it out of the park and even as a die hard Boston sports fan the Philly centric vibe is something special. I can't say enough great things about this place, and as an add on- the girl who worked the front of house deserves a raise because she was outstanding

This has been one of the spots to recently open that has been hyped up as a must try. Due to an event in the area my wife and I had no excuse but to check it out! Opened by the people behind Ramona's that I have not tried. They want to be a Philly inspired sandwich spot while also being a red-sauce joint. Their space is small with bar seating available while also offering tables too. Showing up right around open both options were available which we decided on a table. One side getting chair and the other booth style. It reminded my wife of a New York spot. Due to our event drink wise we stuck to just water that our waiter was attentive to refill the bottle when needed. Food-wise we started by splitting their mozzarella sticks and while tasty and seasoned well had almost no cheese pull to them and if you look at my reviews a different spot has amazing best I have had mozzarella sticks! Next time I would change and try their garlic knots. Entree wise I got the spaghetti and meatballs while my wife got the Fettuccine Bolognese. We both enjoyed our meals but they did not quite reach to being our favorite versions of that meal or pasta in general that results in the four stars. For the price point and only getting three meatballs it was a touch disappointing. I will say despite this they nailed their tiramisu that was the perfect ending to the meal! I hope they succeed and are successful in business! I think we need to return to try their sandwiches for a different take on it. Also I would come back for their pasta dishes but it will not become by go-to spot. Good addition to Portland just needs to improve in some ways to push me to thinking it's outstanding!

What a cool, unique spot in Portland. We sat at the bar and the service was fantastic. We got the mozzarella sticks, the cheesesteak and the clam pasta. The mozzarella sticks were amazing and the cheesesteak was also fantastic. The pasta was okay. It was pretty busy in there so I suggest making a reservation. I will be back to try more of their food!

sat at the bar towards the end of the evening on Bennys opening night - the establishment is so clean cut, it's a very soft, comfortable environment. the decor is awesome with vintage philadelphia photos and athletes. i tried the mozzarella sticks, they're huge ! the breading on them is a great texture. oregano is very present in the seasoning. the pretzel garlic knots were 10/10. two of my favorite things combined! the texture of the pretzel is spot on. a bit crusty exterior with a soft, sour doughy inside. the tiramisu was out of this world. very flavorful. great light, fluffy whipped topping and dense cake.

Perfect for a date night! Our server, Hannah, was great. She suggested an excellent bottle of wine that complimented all of our dishes. Customer service was a solid 10/5! This is a place to definitely add to your Portland dining list! To start, all of the dishes were wonderful portions and could easily be shared between two people. Which I absolutely love because I enjoy trying as many things as I possibly can! Arancini: This was a great starter. Absolutely delicious. I have yet to meet an arancini that I don't love. 5/5. Caesar Salad: A perfect dish that is light and necessary before getting into a heavy entree. The salad was crisp, delicious, very fresh, and a must order. 5/5. Scallop Risotto: This was a large position that had scallops in every bite! It wasn't too heavy, was not too salty, and you could taste the freshness in the ingredients. Dessert is not pictured, but it is worth ordering! The entire dessert menu was excellent!

My daughter had been wanting to go to Via Vecchia for a while but couldn't afford it on a college student's income. So we went during my visit. My hopes were high as we walked in--a beautiful glass enclosure at the entrance that was draped with ceiling to floor ivy; an intimate but lively atmosphere; and an offering of creative cocktails...my enthusiasm quickly vanished when our appetizers arrived. We ordered the focaccia, grilled octopus, and Caesar salad. The focaccia was soggy and flavorless. Even the olive oil that accompanied the bread was flavorless. The grilled octopus was another disappointment--there were more cloves of garlic than pieces of octopus. And what little octopus was there, a third of it was charred to black. Thankfully, the Caesar salad was fresh and fairly tasty. Ironically the focaccia croutons were the highlight of the salad. Then the entrees arrived--chicken Marsala and a spicy shrimp pasta in cream sauce (can't remember the name of the dish). My daughter liked the second dish enjoying the slight kick of whatever pepper/spice was used in the recipe. For me, it was just okay. The biggest disappointment however was the chicken Marsala--the gnocchi was overcooked, the entire dish itself was too salty, and the chicken--overcooked in some parts and fairly tender in others--tasted like it came out of a can. Quite honestly, I don't know what all the hype is about. This restaurant is mediocre at best. Perhaps the cocktails numb everyone's tastebuds to the overly salty but otherwise bland dishes. It was not worth the money and I would never go again. If this is the best that Portland has to offer by way of fine Italian dining, I'd say it's time Portland redefined the meaning of "fine".

With an 8pm reservation for Wednesday, we were seated promptly at 7:50pm. This lovely restaurant has a young, welcoming vibe. It's a mix of high-end dining (Italian) with a somewhat casual atmosphere (blue jeans). If you seek a formal "suit and tie" dining establishment, Leeward is not ideal. Although it is pricey, Leeward has many pluses. First, the service here is outstanding. Second, the wood floors, cork decorated walls, open space, and candles provide a nice ambience. Third, the food is delicious and ideal for sharing appetizers. We ordered several items, including focaccia (the olive oil is wonderful), and the Maine Bluefin Tuna Carpaccio (our favorite!). The Gnocchi Fritto with prosciutto is a must-order appetizer for groups. We then each ordered a pasta dish. I devoured the tagliatelle, which had fava beans. My wife enjoyed the radiatore (with pine nuts). My sons both ordered the rigatoni (but one disliked the heavy Bolognese sauce). Glad we were able to enjoy a celebratory dinner in Portland! Leeward contributes to the strong "foodie" reputation of the city.

We are so lucky to walk up at 8 pm and get a table. Not any table, but next to the kitchen. It was so awesome to sit there and watch their masterpieces come to life. The amount of pans and flames on the fire was pretty cool. We waited a bit for our waiter, but once he arrived he was attentive and did well. Bread service was delicious. Butter cokes our very cold, we used the candle to warm it. They wait staff got a chuckle out of that and said rush cooks give us melted butter. Ha ha We ordered the grilled octopus as an appetizer. Deliciously prepared and cooked. Mmmm. I ordered the special--Tuna Ragu My husband sword fish Swordfish was a little over cooked but the flavor was very good. Fish. Delicious. Now let's talk about the tuna Ragu. It was the most delicious strange thing I've had yet on this trip. My Brain was like... why is there fish in this pasta and my tastebuds are like who the heck cares this amazing. The homemade pasta was delicate and fluffy yet cooked al dente and soaked up all the sauce/gravy. The tuna had a slight fish taste, but it was fresh- perfect and not over whelming. There had to be a spicy sausage hidden in there because every other bite was bursting with a spicy hint. Absolute perfection! They tried to give us the dessert menu, but we were so full. It's likely we just showed up during an off day/time but left more disappointed than excited. Booked a reservation for my wife and I to celebrate our anniversary of when we started dating and they did include a card thanking us for choosing to celebrate it with them. Was a nice little touch. Inside has a rustic feeling vibe and the low ceilings does make it quite loud. Our server eventually greeted us and took our drink orders. I had a spicy tequila cocktail called Kissies and Poppies while my wife had a gin based cocktail called Secret Garden. Both were decent but nothing special enough to rush back for. Appetizer wise the only one on their menu during our visit was freshly sliced prosciutto which was tasty but did not stand out anymore than your typical grocery store prosciutto. For the main event and the purpose of checking them out my wife got the Shrimp Linguine in Butter and Garlic. I gave their Grilled Lobster Linguine in Butter and Garlic a try. Both dishes had great flavor and they did not skimp on garlic! Lobster does come in shell and our server did warn us. Despite the good taste the slow service really left a sour taste in our mouths. Our reservation was for 9:30 PM (showed up a bit early) and didn't receive food til almost 10:30 or after and we ordered relatively quick. Our server did come over once during our wait saying it would be soon. Though once we got our food the server didn't check on us again til we finished. Maybe it was due to being part of the last meals being served. Not a great excuse but who knows, extremely lackluster service for a higher end spot that should make you feel welcome! We did skip out on dessert to avoid more waiting. Im glad so many people enjoy this spot, but if my wife and I are feeling a nicer dinner we will go elsewhere!

It's unique and it's simple -- but the flavors created are something to keep coming back for. In my most recent visit, we had a pretty bad experience leading up to the pizzas actually being served. We had some friends visiting and decided to go to grab pizza after sending a small group back to the mainland on the 6 o'clock boat. Our order must have been placed maybe 5 or 10 minutes after 6... we weren't served our first pizza until after 8 PM. And our second pizza lagged behind that one by nearly 10 minutes. I can understand how, taken out of context, this can be seen as a petty complaint. However, it really was a discouraging experience because we had multiple (at least half a dozen) other groups order well after us and enjoy their entire dining experience all around us. The group ordering behind us enjoyed their pizzas, bottles of wine and chit chatted for nearly a half hour after their indulgences... and still rode off in their golf cart before our pizzas even made it into the oven. The part that really baffled me was that we took the opportunity to speak with the staff about what was causing the delay -- simply asking if our pizza order had been started or not yet and the explanation was "our team has made several mistakes this evening and we don't have a good estimate on how long it'll take for your pizzas to be ready". We got the same explanation after waiting for 45 minutes and again after nearly an hour and a half. It seemed like a pretty inadequate answer when their wood-fired oven was often not full of cooking pizzas and their entire staff was dancing to the music playing on their speakers. In the end... the pizza was good (same quality as expected). But my experience left something to be seriously desired.
