Tripleta Sandwich (Pernil pork, sausage, ham)
    Randy W.

+The Location: This is an interesting location. The chef shares kitchen space with the Mad House Comedy Club which is on the top floor of Horton Plaza near the old Nordstrom's and you can't eat here so as the name implies, it's carryout/delivery only. There was some confusion when I got here because it was right as the comedy show was about to begin, a crowd was in line and the club staff didn't seem to know what the procedure was for ordering so I was sent to the bar. +The Service: The chef came over, introduced herself to me and apologized for the confusion. She spent several minutes going over the menu and invited me to sit while I watched her cook. I ordered the Tripleta (pork, sausage, ham) Advocado Salad, Chuletas (pork chops) and Pernil Empenada. Very friendly, very helpful. +The Food: Now, I don't know anything about Puerto Rican food so I can't compare it but I do love pork. The sandwich was very good and the bread she uses is excellent. The other meats were good but I liked the pork enough that I wish I had just gotten it by itself. I didn't want anything (maybe except cheese) interfering with it. The chuletas were a competent pork chop and cooked exactly how I liked them and at $7.99 that's a very good price. I wouldn't say try them if you've never had Puerto Rican food before because I didn't detect a ton of difference between those and what I'm used to. The pernil empenada was decent but overshadowed by the sandwich. The surprise for me was the avocado salad. It was like guacamole but with hard boiled eggs, and chunky so you could eat it by itself. Maybe a little on the salty side, but I don't mind that. Pros: --Service. Its a small operation so your order taker, cook and cashier are all the same person. --Food. Extremely well executed and packaged nicely. --Price. These are very, very fair prices for the food being offered. You will get full from one entree. Cons: --Location. Just something to be aware of if you're looking for this place and want to eat there. There are lots of tables right inside Horton Plaza though. Overall, I'd definitely do it again. I'd just call or order online. And I would try the pernil sandwich. Or Tripleta with pork, carne and chicken.

Where do I begin! So its Saturday night around 10:30pm when me and some friends got hungry and got on Uber eats and came across Bennys!! And boy where we glad!! We wanted something to be able to snack on while we continue our game night. They had all kinds of empanadas. We went a little crazy and ordered up a storm! We got the Tres Queso empanada the spicy chicken, the slow cooked pork, the ground beef, the peanut butter and nutella and some tostones! And 2 potato balls stuffed with ground beef!! The empanadas were made fresh to order and taste so good!! When my order got here it felt like they had just came out the fryer! Everyone was content and one of my friends is Puerto Rican and even he was brought back to his childhood! The food was so good I grab my phone and started this review!! Its a must try! You won't regret it

9/30: So yelp states that the restaurant is opened however I was turned away when I walked in because they are prepping for a festival? Disappointing. ------------------ I have yet to go to the Horton Plaza as it is offered through Postmates. I never have an issue with their food. They give you plenty for the price paid. I do always order the same thing because I love it (Pernil with Spanish rice and pink beans with a Malta and sometimes beef empanada). I'm really happy that they are available for postmates as well as a store front. One day I will go the location and oddly enough it's by the comedy place which I haven't been to for a year. Highly recommended especially the Pernil...they flavor it to perfection!

Although the place was a bit hard to find it was worth it. It is located on the fourth floor inside of the Mad House Comedy Club. The food was sooooo good. I had ordered arroz con habichuelas, pernil asado, maduros and an empanada (rice and red beans, oven baked pork shoulder, fried plantains and a chicken turnover. Deliciousness!!!! Sooo recommended. The guy who attended me was super nice as well.

    On point!

Benny's is awesome! Great Puerto Rican food!! Service was amazing and very friendly!! The rice with pink beans was fire! My slow roasted pork, empanadas (I got 1 spicy beef and 1 apple) were great! The tostones were very good! I was most impressed by the authenticity of the food, it tasted like the real deal! It wasn't somebody TRYING to make Puerto Rican food, they actually made REAL Puerto Rican food! They even have cola champagne! I will be back! :)

This sweet Puerto Rican spot is located in Hampton Plaza inside Mad House Comedy Club. Not the easiest spot to jump off and carry out, but totally worth it. Got to meet the lovely chef Tennille to get some recommendations and a back story to her and her husbands adventures. I wanted to try everything! Started with tostones which I saw chef toss in salt and I loved, because that's always what I feel like they need. Salty bites when they're hot and fresh out the grease bath! Mmmm love tostones! Thought I'd be disappointed when I got back to the room because I forgot to ask for mojo (garlic) sauce you usually dip them in, but chef Tennille had it covered & it was there! YASSSSS!!! Next, I had to order empanadas, because with Puerto Rican food, you just do! Spicy beef (you had me at spicy) was so good! I wanted another! Spinach & cheese empanada, yuuummm! The flavor was there and so good! Main course was pernil (slow roasted pork) that was spiced and seasoned beautifully with white rice & pink beans-my first try at pink beans-different & delicious! Had to try something sweet- apple cinnamon empanada did the duty! I was waiting to try this place since the day I landed in San Diego. Did not disappoint! Thanks for looking out fellow Yelpers!!! Thanks chef(s) for a great meal ON THE GO!!! Keep shooting for those FIVE stars!!! I'll be swinging back through San Diego soon...Get you some!!!

Mufungo. So good even though it doesn't look like it. Try it.

Yum! Great food. If you haven't tried Puerto Rican food try it! Not spicy hot, just has spice and not bland. Just ask what is the best and you can't go wrong. We had the mufongo, empanadas, rice and beans and dessert. The mufungo was so good! The first time I ever tried it, it didn't look to good and I wasn't sure but so glad I tried it. We got the rice but it was more like red Spanish rice and we didn't care for it. They have this rice another one and white rice. Try the other rice instead. The empanadas were really good. We tried all 3. The cheese one should have been melted more. It was a little cold in one section. If you like coconut you have to try their coconut dessert. I forgot the name but it's chocolate and chewy coconut..so good! You get 3 and they are like the size of a cookie. They have a picture on here too but they look small in that picture. This place is located inside the comedy club. No seating inside but you can take the food outside to sit. There were plenty of tables outside. Can't wait to come back next time.

Everything here is amazing, but the tripleta puerco sandwich is to die for!! Kind of tricky to find at first. It's in the Horton plaza, madhouse comedy club. Try it....now.

The Arroz (Spanish rice) y Habichuelas con Pernil y Platanitos Maduros was amazing. I've been yearning for good Puerto Rican food in San Diego. It was excellent.

Tasty food and great service! Highly recommend it! It took us a while to find it but worth everything! The chef forgot to pack coconut macaroons and she had someone to deliver it to my hotel room which I really appreciated.

Food and catering service were some of our highest priorities to get right during our wedding and Culinary Kitchen was phenomenal every step of the way. Our communication with Ashley and and JP before, during, and after the wedding was exceptional. From the very beginning, Ashley was very responsive and regularly checked in with us, which helped me feel less overwhelmed by all the catering decisions we needed to make. I tend to err on being extremely detail oriented and I asked tons of questions early on. Ashley was so patient and thorough with each email I had sent over even before booking. Before choosing our caterer, we did 3 different wedding caterer tastings and Culinary Kitchen easily was the best of all three (we're still thinking about the gochujang meatballs and the cavatappi pasta with fennel sausage!!). On our wedding day, the food service ran seamlessly and our guests often commented on how good the food was (guests were actually trying to sneak chicken tenders off the kids plates because even the kids meals were so good). Their team also helped us serve our desserts, did our bartending, and rented/placed all of our table settings, all at very reasonable prices as part of the entire catering package. The team also went above and beyond to accommodate all of our guests' special dietary needs while still helping us stay within budget and recommending a cohesive menu. One last thing - we did A LOT of research on different San Diego caterers before our wedding (I think we sent out inquiries to at least 10 other caterers) and Culinary Kitchen's catering packages felt the most "upscale" and comprehensive without leaving us feeling nickel and dimed for every line item. I truly felt like their team was on our side the whole way. THANK YOU Culinary Kitchen for catering our wedding day!! We wish you guys the best of success!

Quality imagination presentation --…read more Four Seasons Food Catering is owned by the marvelous duo Billy Burd and Sierra Ridenour-Burd. They make an amazing team. They catered a party for us at the The Thursday Club in Point Loma in March and dazzled everyone. When we were trying to choose a caterer we were attracted to Four Seasons by the imaginative and creative flair of Chef Billy Burd's cuisine and by their very positive reviews. One thing that caught our attention about the reviews was that many of them were fairly long. Apparently reviewers were not satisfied to give 5 stars and a paragraph of praise, they really wanted to testify. They felt that Four Seasons was special and they were motivated to let you know just how special. After experiencing Four Seasons catering service we can understand that sentiment. The culinary experience Four Seasons provided was marvelous. The dishes were imaginative, taste tempting, and a delight to the eye. Guests loved the appetizers that were passed: shrimp wrapped in basil and pancetta, mushrooms with escargot, parmesan crusted artichoke hearts. The stationary display had a choice assortment of cheeses and a selection of cold seafood that included jumbo shrimp, smoked salmon, ahi poke, and a sashimi platter all beautifully presented. Suffice it to say the buffet was equally spectacular. Chef Billy takes pride in the quality of the products he sources. The filet mignon for example was gorgeous. The shrimp served in the seafood display were so tasty that they made you stop and take notice. This was a once in a lifetime kind of party for us so we pulled out the stops when we were choosing items for the menu. It's very much to Billy and Sierra's credit that part of their response was to say that and they would be happy to offer some more budget friendly variations. We appreciated their inclination to work with clients to find good solutions to their needs. We enjoyed meeting with Chef Billy one time early in the planning process, but other than that, all the planning and coordination was handled by Sierra. She is fantastic and a pleasure to work with. She gave us recommendations on the initial approach to the menu, on down to details like the serving schedule, linens, and the table floor plan. We communicated mostly through email which was very productive because her emails, besides being congenial, were always clear and complete. And it was amazing how quickly she would reply, usually the same day. When it came to the final week before the party and it was time to summarize all the various emails and discussions Sierra nailed it, she recapped everything perfectly. The Four Seasons staff were wonderful. During the set up time they operated like clockwork. During the party they could not have been more charming and gracious. This is another major point to Billy and Sierra's credit. It takes care and effort to assemble a team of this quality--a group of individuals who interface harmoniously not only with the guests, but with each other, and with other vendors such as the florist. The whole event flowed thanks to the staff. When you are planning a special event you hope to create a joyful and memorable experience for all your guests.
