Very glad to have Bennie's Bread as the spot for my 500th Yelp review. Every year we debate trying a different beach for the season, but Ocean City keeps pulling us back, and Bennie's is one of the main reasons with how many good food options they offer. Their breakfast sandwiches are easy to order online and pick up right at the counter, which makes morning beach runs a lot smoother. Inside, there are loads of different danishes and sweets to choose from, along with plenty of more savory dishes like the buffalo chicken roll. Great bread! We picked up a loaf of sourdough and a regular Italian bread. Our brother-in-law makes a killer cioppino and he lightly toasted both breads for an accompaniment. We couldn't decide which we liked better! Friendly people and we loved the convenience of the bike rack! read more

After confirming on the website that the business was open, I took my family to Bennie's Bread only to find it was closed. So 11 people were disappointed simply because the business didn't care enough to take 30 seconds to upgrade its website and post a a correct schedule. I'm sure we are not the only ones to learn of their ambivalence towards potential guests. Bennie's Bread is in a convenient location. I stopped here on my way to the beach and found street parking right out front. They bake their own rolls daily and I'd give this breakfast sandwich a solid 4 stars. Online ordering was not available when I tried so I called my order in. The employee was pleasant on the phone and my order was ready when I arrived. I would add that I found the pick up process a bit confusing - it would be helpful to have a pick up order line (perhaps I missed it). read more

Gave a 5 star review 8 years ago and wanted to give a quick update. Haven't stayed in OC for years. Came back this past week and of course had to pay a visit to Bennie's. Bought a bunch of items including bread, stromboli's, chicken salad ($25 lol) , pizza etc we also bought some egg sandwiches and coffee. Food was okay. Nothing to write home about. Seems like the quality dipped overall and prices sky rocketed. Yes I know labor and ingredients costs went up since Covid but I wasn't expected to get clubbed over the head with the prices they are charging. Just not worth it. Really sad to see these small mom and pop's charge an arm and leg these days. I'll let the New York and North Jersey people keep them afloat. No thanks. Won't be back. read more

Service was ok, coffee is ok. No public restroom. We ordered a turkey hoagie to share and added cheese to it.... This sandwich comes with literally just turkey on it. You have to pay an extra dollar for any amount of additional ingredients (including the cheese we added). Very disappointing to get a sandwich that was literally turkey and cheese but cost like $15. I wouldn't recommend this place. I do want to note that the cheese cake we got was very good, so maybe focus more on their baked goods if you want to come here. read more

Absolutely loved Bennie's Bread for its breakfast sandwich this weekend - the "Green Eggs & Ham" with pesto, eggs, prosciutto, and cheese was so so good. I'm really excited to try the other sides and baked goods inside - they looked tasty (if a bit pricey). Side note: there is a real battle going on in the OCNJ sandwich scene - I see Boyar, Bennie's, and Sandwich Bar all competing for best sandwich in the town. They've got so much to try and love! So many different options that all looked really good I went simple with a Meatball sandwich and it was just lovely. The meatballs were flavorful and spiced perfectly with thyme and whatever other love they put in there. Fantastic bread and sauce! Gluten Free Peeps Please Read!! Thank you Bennie's for making my Gluten Free dreams a reality! All week, as my family enjoyed bagels and breakfast sandwiches, I tried to enjoy my gluten free goodies brought from home. After a nice bike ride on the boardwalk, my husband, daughter and I walked to Bennie's and to my surprise they were able to make a GF breakfast sandwich. Let me tell you, when that sandwich hit my palate, I almost cried! The bun was soft, melted in my mouth and made me feel like I was in Pre-Gluten Free times! What do we really know about the Jersey shore? The breath taking sunrises and sunsets. The ice cream man walking along the beach screaming out "fudgie wudgie ice cream, get your fudgie wudgie ice cream". That computerized female voice always telling you to "watch the tram car please" The boardwalk with the rides and the adventures that go along with it. Those constantly annoying green flies that just bite you until submission. The seagulls that hover over you waiting for a meal, or for you to leave something unattended. The smell of the salt in the air from that cooling breeze that is somewhat therapeutic. The places you can go to enjoy a meal, or you can pack it to enjoy on the beach. Bennie's is one of those places you can stop at where you can begin your adventure. Everything in this establishment is simply Amazing, and I wish I could just leave this review just like that. I will not be that guy, I will not leave you in suspense like that. I don't know where to begin, I seriously don't know what area do I attack first? Do I go, and hit you with their Neapolitan style pizza? Do I hit you with the unbelievable sandwiches that melted in my mouth with every bite? I know I can start of with the homemade pastries, and that beautiful bread, with that fresh bakery scent as you enter. I am perplexed here, I am literally at a loss for words because I am salivating all over again from my recent experience. The Goods: *Pizza ~Their true Neapolitan has me at a loss for words that's how good it is. Hand made right in front of you,that is placed in a wood fired brick oven. 750 degrees is what I'm screaming! That's hot people, that has some pep to it. I went with their sausage pie or as he would call it "Sozzeech" and let me tell you I was in love. The flavors of that sauce, the sweet sausage that hit you, with the right amounts of mozzarella cheese was amazing. Just picture every bite you take, your taste buds are going into a frenzy. If I were to have an affair, this would be my mistress. *Tomato Pie ~ Bennies tomato pie is no joke! This bad boy was killing it with every bite. Crunchy, their marinara they put over top of this is probably the best in Southern Jersey. Yes I said it, and yes I meant it. I've had a few tomato pies in my day. You do have some locations down here at the shore that do make a great tomato, but nothing like this. They can hold their own in Philly, and New York if it came down to it. *Pork Shoulder Sandwich ~ Simply DIVINE , yes all caps for that. This literally melted in my mouth with every bite.Their pork shoulder sandwich is seasoned, and slow roasted to perfection. This is a home run through and through with it being so tender. Add broccoli-rabe, long hots, sharp provolone on their homemade bread and you will be screaming out obscenities with every bite. I guarantee you this, you'll be dropping a "F bomb" in the middle of eating this. I did. The owners Gianni, and Ralph of Bennie's will make you feel like you are part of their family. The way they greet everyone that comes in, even if you are not a regular customer. Places like this are what I consider a gem. Places like Bennie's will make people go out of their way just to come back for that family like treatment. Of course the freshly made food is another reason why to come back. I know I will be back! The breakfast sandwiches are so good! I don't know why I was expecting a frozen egg disk but my egg sandwich came with two perfectly cooked fried eggs and the bagels were delicious. I would like to go to Bennie's every day for breakfast while I'm in the area. They also have a large variety of other foods that I have not yet tried such as chicken cutlets, lasagna, rice balls, and deserts. read more

Bennie is the best. We had a Hot Milk Cake, Italian cookies and cannolis. EVERYONE enjoyed each dessert.

Teetering between three and four stars on this review because the sandwiches ordered were a little lackluster, but other stuff was very good. Let me start with the overwhelmingly good part which was the selections from the pre-made deli case. Lots of wonderful Italian choices so I went with the a large Arancini ball. Most of the items are about $10.99 / lb for the pre-made items. The suppli "rice ball" was actually filled with ground beef and peas. Lots of flavor and came with some marinara for dipping. Also delightful was the crab ball which came with a zesty dipping sauce. The lobster bisque stole the show though. I would give that 5 stars alone. $5.99 for a warm pint of the bisque which was the soup of the day. When it came to the sandwiches there were some limited options on the chalk board. Ended up getting the chicken cutlet and their version of the Italian. The real deal Italian was great but at 9" but very light, not much meat at all. Yes, quality fresh ingredients but when ringing up for north of ten bucks, I would expect more weight to it. Same goes for the chicken cutlet. It's literally a cutlet on a nine inch roll for nine bucks. The cutlet isn't that sizable either. I guess they want you to order lettuce, tomato, onion and cheese separate which they charge extra for? I think it would have been a better experience if they listed "The Uncle G" which is a cutlet that has more items on it. read more

Our family recently tried Bennie's Bread for an event and man is this place good! The Caesar salad was excellent with flavorful dressing and higher end shredded cheeses and croutons. The eggplant pie is something I've seen nowhere else- has fresh mozz, basil, balsamic with layers of thinly sliced eggplant- I liked it best with some added tomato and greens on top to balance it out a bit more as a meal. The real standout for me was the huge platter we had of various stuffed bread options: steak and cheese, pepperoni, sausage, buffalo sauce chicken and I loved dipping them into their super flavorful delicious marina sauce which was top notch. I didn't pick up, but family that did said service was fine.The only negative was we did order more options of the assorted platter stuffed breads including veggie option for the vegetarians in the house, but they ran out. The staff tried to help make up for it by making us a few veggie sandwiches they cut for us to add to the platter which was nice. Highly recommended. read more

Finally visited bennies bread and can't believe I didn't check this spot out sooner! Located on Asbury Avenue, it was easy to street park and pop in. On a summer weekday afternoon, the place wasn't too crowded and we were helped quickly. An Italian inspired eatery, bennies has both an extensive take out menu and an area to dine inside. It is definitely a casual atmosphere. Their menu included hot and cold sandwiches, fresh salads and pasta salads, and a variety of thin crust wood fired pizzas. They also have a case of pre made Italian food like chicken cutlets, lasagnas, etc, making it a great spot to pick up food to heat up for an easy dinner at home. We ordered sandwiches to go. The bbq pork sandwich was probably the best pork sandwich I've ever had! Seasoned perfectly and served on their fresh homemade breAd, it as delicious. We also enjoyed the Waldorf chicken salad sandwich, which was flavorful and fresh. We didn't try the pizza, but saw a few coming out of the oven and I definitely want to return to give them a try! Well this review is for their pizza... it just wasn't the gooey cheesy dripping with grease good pizza that Jersey is known for or the upscale pizzas we have in Plano. Nothing was spectacular about these pizzas, they had very little cheese, the crust was missing the complexity of most firecrust pizza places we have visited and the sauce was bland...right out of a can? Try copying some of the favorites from 60 Vines in 75093 if you really want to make a statement at the shore. My sister loved the pulled pork sandwich she ordered, and it was loaded with meat. And our side of cucumber salad was delish. I might try it again for something else on the menu, just not the pizza. read more

This one is not to be missed if your in the neighborhood!! We visited on our recent vacation in OCNJ. My son and I opted for the Uncle G, and we were not disappointed. Perfectly cooked chicken cutlet with an amazing smoked provolone and the star of the show: basil aioli. The fresh baked bread makes it even better. I would eat this sandwich every day if I could. We also ordered a sausage sub for my dad, and he devoured it upon delivery. We picked up a pesto pasta salad and biscotti as well - both were excellent. The biscotti was a delicious treat with my morning coffee. Ordering was a breeze on a touch screen kiosk, and the staff was very friendly and efficient.
