Went in for dinner on a Friday because I'd heard good things from a friend. Guess I should have known something was afoot-- my friend is really stupid. I ordered the brisket burger. My wife ordered the poutine. We'll start with hers. It came out as a sort of amorphous goo. The servers were polite, and seemed confused by the whole affair. Not like I could blame them. It was as though whoever made this dish had never cooked, and perhaps never even seen cheese before. As for my burger, I suppose my biggest problem was the sizable and uncooked roach that came as a garnish in between the buns. I'd seen a few scuttling in the corner all evening, but tried to make nothing of it because my wife kept telling me "we're by the river, we're by the river, there's gonna be roaches!" Well, I'm a fairly magnanimous guy but even I have to draw the line somewhere. I "lucked out" as it were, the owner happened to be there that night. Keith? Something like that. I flagged him down and explained the situation to him and he just laughed at me and tried to tell me it was a scallop. This thing was not a scallop! It was a massive cockroach (or perhaps waterbug) resting on top of my burger like King Tutankhamen lying in his tomb! No matter what I said to this guy, he just kept laughing at me and insisting it was a scallop, and supposed to be there. I don't even think scallops are on the menu. And maybe this is a low-blow, but I feel like it's worth mentioning. The gentleman smelled really, really, bad, and winked at my wife as we were leaving. I guess needless to say, I don't plan on returning. I cannot in good conscience recommend anyone else go either. A friend and I tried this place for the very first time. We arrived for an early lunch. I had the daily special, which consisted of: hamburger steak (topped with brown gravy and onions), green beans, mashed potatoes, and a roll. I also ordered a side salad and an unsweetened iced tea. My food was delicious and well-prepared. I opted for extra green beans instead of potatoes. The vinaigrette maple salad dressing was phenomenal. My only quibble was that the iced tea was weakly flavored. The server said that their tea arrived in bags (not homemade). Next time I'll order water instead. My colleague had the half salad / half sandwich combo. He said that the club sandwich was the best that he had ever tasted. The service was fairly attentive, personable, and friendly. When I arrived, I had to remove crumbs from the seat of my chair. The interior of the restaurant was decorated nicely, and had a vibrant energy to it. I especially liked the design and feel of the lighting. I'll likely return the next time that I'm in the area. read more

I used to come here at least 4 times a week, but all of the sudden a couple months ago the food just started to not be good. I kept going back, it took me about a month of going back to be sure, but I just decided I couldn't do it any more. I tried again recently, and it's still not good, and the portions even seemed way smaller than before. It was my first time to Bennetts which was surprisingly really nice. The inside is very modern meets farmhouse style and reminds me of a perfect brunch spot. I went for lunch and ordered the chips and queso...to be honest, I wasn't too impressed... it wasn't bad but wasn't memorable in my opinion. I had the French dip sandwich which was great!!! The sandwich came with really good au jus and creamy horseradish sauce which was awesome. The entree came with a side of house made chips which were really great! Ok. Wow. From the outside this looks like any other random restaurant in a strip center. But inside, you are transported to something exceptional. The decor is super cool with the Edison bulbs and wood- a combo of industrial and primitive kinda vibe. The menu was amazing with a vast array of lunch choices. 3 of our group got burgers that were served on cutting boards, with small metal baskets of hand cut fries. I made reservations on open table for 1815, we arrived at 1805 and it was packed the hostess told us you are luck to have a reservation and was seated immediately. First time we've been to Bennett's but DEFINITELY not the last! I stumbled upon a post about them here on FB so we decided to try it and were not disappointed! The sampler appetizer was awesome! (Lamb lollis were exceptionally tasty) If I had one word of advice tho I think they should note that almost everything on that platter has some spice to it. On a scale of 1-10 it was overall a 6. Not a bad thing at all for anyone who likes some kick but for those who don't they will be surprised. This place came highly recommended from a friend who used to live in the area. They were spot on, even though they were short staffed we had such wonderful service and our glasses were never empty. The food was delicious and every items ordered around our table was polished off and plates were essentially licked clean. Next time I would just get the sirloin on its own or the other steak option, it seemed like a huge price difference for such few shrimp but the meal was still delicious. We went in open minded. And our mind was blown. We had the dinner for two that is a special on Thursday nights. Wife had broccoli salad that we both enjoyed the flavor. I had potato soup my wife even enjoyed it. I can say it was some of the best potato soup I have ever had. Our next course I had cheese curds that was incredible with the chipotle dipping sauce. My wife had tempura shrimp that was very good. I had for my main course prim rib with lobster butter that was so delicious. Wife had stuffed chicken that tasted fantastic. Really neat spot in Sherwood. They had a lot of fascinating options on the menu, which made it hard to choose what I wanted for lunch. I went with their chicken, bacon and ranch tacos. Per the server's suggestion, I went with the fried chicken instead of grilled. Normally I don't like a corn tortilla, but theirs was lightly fried and its flavor and slight crispiness made it match well. The service was great, and their space is charming. My wife got the barbecue nachos. The dish uses wontons instead of corn chips, which makes them easier to eat (less crunch) but not easier to lift (less rigidity). This was our first time at this Sherwood restaurant. My wife and I met our good friends there for supper and a visit. We were not disappointed! The restaurant was decorated nicely with neutral colors and rough wooden accents with warm lighting from a variety of Edison style light bulbs. We were seated immediately, and our server, Katy A., was super friendly, knowledgeable, and calm in her demeanor. Katy explained the menu thoroughly and left us to make our choices. We started with the sampler appetizer, which consisted of fried cheese curds, slices of smoked sausage, small lamb chop "lollipops ", crisp fried onions with pickle halves and pickled onions with two delicious dipping sauces. The appetizer was artfully arranged on a wooden cutting board. Very tasty! Our entrees arrived quickly and were at the proper temperature. All our entrees were delicious and well prepared, but I will just comment on mine. I ordered the 8 ounce Angus Sirloin (medium rare) with a red wine sauce reduction, fresh green beans, and a baked potato. Everything was cooked perfectly, and the steak was tender and juicy. The green beans were cooked al dente, and the potato was as expected. The only ding is that a little more butter could have been served for the potato, but not a biggie. A glass of wine would have been good with this meal, but Bennett's isn't able to serve alcohol due to a daycare next door. ( I guess the kids were coming over and getting drunk! Lol! ). We had an excellent meal and visit with our friends, and we stayed as long as we wanted without feeling like they wanted us to leave. But we were respectful of the staff and didn't tie up the table all night. An excellent experience, and we will be back as soon as possible! read more

When you look at my review, please keep in mind I am a foodie from the wine Country in California. We are very fussy about our food and restaurants: Pros: The Food!, service, price, friendliness of staff, portion size Con: Noisier than I like My daughter, son-in-law and grandson said this was one of two really good restaurants in the area. They were right. We were seated quickly, given menus and asked what we would like to drink (no alcohol is served there). The server told us about the specials. We spoke with the manager who knew my family because they were nearly missed when someone drove into the restaurant and he talked about the incident. We ordered our dinners which were served quickly. I enjoy a good caesar salad and am usually disappointed with them in most restaurants. The caesar salad here was creamy and flavorful with a flavor close to the classic. It was evenly tossed with good croutons. It is one of the better salads I've had in a casual restaurant like Bennetts. Pot roast should be tender and not chewy. It is difficult to cook to just the right moment before it becomes stringy and chewy. Bennett's got it right; the meat was fork tender and flavorful. It came off the larger pieces easily without clinging to them. The vegies were al dente and tasted fresh. My family's food that I tasted was equally well cooked. We had both the strawberry and red velvet cakes. The red velvet was especially nicely done and not too sweet. We're going back to Bennett's on my next trip to see my family. read more

I ended up getting a brunch bowl. It has a sunny side up egg a corn kernel slaw as they call it, mashed potatoes and fried crispy chicken. The best thing about it was the fried crispy chicken that was actually quite good. The rest of it was rather bland and I didn't think much of it.
