I had been eating at cafeterias more often than not during my stay in Barcelona so when I was going to eat at Benjas, I was rightly hesitant. Yet I couldn't get enough of tapas and the boyfriend had enough of tapas. The perfect compromise is of course a cafeteria.
I got the Grilled Shrimp or Gambas a la Plancha and they were saltier than expected, but oh so good. With that, I also got another salty dish, which were little sausages, almost choricitos. I forget the exact name, but it is somewhere along those lines. These were oily, popped in your mouth, salty and quite delicious.
I also got a Bocadillo with Chicken and Pepper, and this was just ok. I probably should have gotten some other one, but I know now. The chicken was on the drier side and it literally tasted like exactly what it is was in between bread. The whole sandwich was a bit dry, so I dipped some of the bread in my sausage oil. It was good.
My tapas came out much longer than expected, but they were well-worth it. I enjoyed a slice of my boyfriend's Iberian Ham, tomato and arugula pizza while I waited and it was refreshing.
The drinks were very cheap and my house wine and beer were each under 4 Euros. Why drink water at this point?
Our one server hustled big time and served so many tables outside but also made all the coffees with a smile. Love her so much. At one point, the chef in the back served a couple dishes. Definitely a small place.
Restrooms are downstairs and very quaint and cute with a very hole-in-the-wall feel.
All in all, I am glad we were able to find Benjas, and I would definitely recommend this place as it has a bit of everything! read more
