If 5 stars isn't enough, PLEASE read my story!! I decided to get my veneers done 4 years ago (with a completely different dentist- The Art of Modern Dentistry) and was sweet talked by the Doctor- Dr Daftari (I don't naturally feel very comfortable talking negative about a professional's work, but if I can help someone else not waste thousands of dollars and the mental stress that comes along with getting a bad dental service done, I know this is for the right reason) My entire life, I had always been self conscious of my smile and my teeth. When I finally made the decision to get my veneers done, I jumped right in and got my top front 8 teeth done. Without spending too much time on the negative, after getting them done it took no longer than 8 months for my first veneer to fall out. Yep, I said it....FIRST, as in .....many more to come. After I got the fallen tooth put back in, it fell out 2 days later and thus began the TERRIBLE experience that lasted a total of 3 years. So here I am, 21 years old in a high pressure sales job not able to go to work because I look ridiculous without one of my front teeth, and trying to explain to my boss that my tooth had fallen out AGAIN!! Long story short, I had a total of 4 new teeth put back in, more than $10,000 spent, for what? teeth that were different colors, different shapes and a dentist that tried to oversell me on other procedures instead of taking accountability for her terribly executed job. The last tooth that fell out, was on New Years Eve this last year (my 24th BIRTHDAY) I wake up New Years day to an all too realistic "hangover" type situation. It was funny for like 5 seconds..I swear. Im sitting in my bed on NY's day, crying my eyes out knowing that I can NOT go back to my dentist and freaking out about who to go to, who to trust and what to do while the entire country is on vacation. THANK GOD for Dr. Fiss!! He was the ONLY dentist from my online searches that had more than raving reviews on his work of veneers. Anyone with eyes that can see what his clients say about him, and can have the reassurance that he only wants the best for his clients. I walked into his office January 2017, and that was the best decision I could have ever made. I was not pressured at all, and was told the brutal honest truth, which was absolutely needed. I felt so confident in him and I could tell that he was genuine and could relate to what I was going through. I left his office that day with a plan to have 6 of the 8 veneers COMPLETELY redone. Over all, I can not express how appreciative I am for Dr. Fiss, his wife and his entire staff. They made for certain I was aware of what was happening, that I was making the decisions and that I was comfortable. I had a second chance to reinvent myself, and Dr. Fiss executed my dream better than I could have imagined. I have more confidence than ever and I know that I have a dentist that I can trust. This is a terrific dental office. My whole family has been going for sometime and have received great care. It's a very professional office, which really displayed itself during the pandemic. In short, Dr. Fiss exceeds expectations. Honest. Experienced. Conservative. I evaluated the top six downtown Chicago cosmetic dentists to have veneers placed on my central incisors (crossbite situation), lateral incisors, and canine teeth. Dr. Fiss was medically conservative, forthright in his vision, and backs his experience with before/after photos of similar procedures. WARNING: This dentist bills patients upfront whether you have insurance or not. Meaning: you will pay for the full amount customarily billed to the insurance company and then the insurance company will reimburse you the amount they actually cover. There is no discount or write-off as has been the handshake agreement between providers and insurers since forever. His practice is NOT in-network for Delta Dental but they will not tell you this until you are in the office. Actually, they claim that there is a sign announcing this so make sure you're paying attention to decoration in the office. You may also find yourself "needing" work done outside the scope of your appointment. Stop the appointment. Get a second opinion and shop that work around. Having insurance is not the same as having coverage. This office puts the entire burden squarely on the patient's shoulders. Make sure you don't get blindsided. read more

Dr Fiss and his team have taken excellent care of me for well over a decade. Recently, and with much deliberation, I decided to switch to an in-network practice. It is difficult to leave any doctor you've trusted for so long. Dr Fiss is passionate about his work and is a perfectionist - which is a great trait for a dentist and one I appreciated very much. Seeing the grinding damage on my teeth, Dr Fiss immediately recommended a much needed night guard, which stopped the grinding damage I'd experienced for years. Dr Fiss has fixed chipped teeth resulting for all those years of grinding. He's crowned many of my back teeth; and when root canals were needed, Dr Fiss referred me to an excellent endodontist, saving many of my back teeth. I always felt that Dr Fiss cared and that I was in excellent hands. At the front desk, Jodi and Suzanne were always welcoming and took care of the paperwork, payments, and scheduling next appointments. They also effortlessly coordinated any follow-up tasks requested by insurance. Over the years, my dental hygienists (Elizabeth and more recently Shelly) were excellent as well. Both loved their work and did excellent jobs while fitting in friendly conversations about things like family and friends and music. I was very impressed with Dr. Fiss and his dental office and staff. It was easy to make an appointment and the receptionist who answered the phone was very sweet. They offered to send me an email to remind me about my appointment (to save me a phone call), which I thought was a nice touch. The office is clean and beautiful. When I arrived for my appointment, I was a few minutes early and they took me early. My dental hygienist (Traci) was wonderful. She did a great job cleaning my teeth and made sure I was comfortable the entire time. There are TV screens in the exam room and I assume you could watch a TV program if you wanted to (based on other reviews) although I didn't. She did try to talk me into letting them use a $35 oral cancer screening tool they have (although I passed--I'm 26 and have no risk factors for oral cancer. I think that time might have been better spent if she had talked to me about not smoking!). Dr. Fiss is great. He was very reassuring and I fully trusted him after just a few minutes (and I'm hard to please when it comes to dentists!). This was my first visit with him and I had tried to have X-rays sent from a previous dentist (unsuccessfully). Dr. Fiss personally followed up on making sure these X-rays got sent and he even personally called me to tell me he had reviewed them (which didn't cost anything--for the previous Yelper's review). I am so grateful for having found Dr. Fiss and his staff. I found myself needing extensive dental treatment last year. After finding one dentist who I felt had just seen dollar signs when I walked through the door, I was referred to Dr. Fiss. Dr. Fiss was thorough and clear in his treatment plan. He told me what needed attention right away, and what he would keep an eye on. I have spent quite a few hours in his chair now, and I can tell you he truly cares about his patients. If you are looking for a dentist that actually enjoys what they do, cares about you as a human being, and knows how to communicate, see Dr. Fiss. In the course of a year, I've had oral implants, Invisalign Braces, Zoom whitening, and porcelain veneers. I couldn't be happier with the results. I first met with Dr. Fiss early in 2012 regarding oral implants. I'm congenitally missing two of my upper teeth and I had been wearing a faulty bridge for many years. Oral implants are not cheap (even if you have insurance) so I was naturally worried about selecting a good dentist. In fact, prior to meeting with Fiss, I had at least 4 consultations with other dentists and oral surgeons. I chose Fiss because from day one he communicated with me with honesty and clarity. He never promised anything he could not do nor did he get frustrated when I asked questions. I was also impressed by his incisiveness and the creativity he brings into his work. One of the things I appreciated most about Dr. Fiss, is how he teamed up with other specialist from around the city to provide me with the best care. Unlike some dentist I've seen in the past, he doesn't try to do everything in his office. (I was especially pleased with the oral surgeon he referred me to: Dr. Gargiulo at Park Dental Specialist.) One thing I've learned through this whole process is that it is extremely important to find a dentist that communicates effectively with the oral surgeon and any other specialists he or she may be working with. It is also important to find someone that genuinely cares about the final results. Fiss didn't see me as just another appointment or procedure. He saw me as a human being who was incredibly insecure about my smile. Cosmetic dentistry can be expensive and time consuming. It is important to find someone you can trust. Dr Fiss is a fantastic dentist. I went in to his office for a veneer consult. My teeth where not aligned properly and due to an accident I had a chipped front tooth. On my first visit I felt completely comfortable in the office and the staff where very welcoming and professional. The facility is modern, serene and has a relaxed spa-like quality to it. In addition to serving as my general dentist, Dr. Fiss bonded two veneers to my front teeth, which had been chipped over the years. He took additional time to perfectly match the their color to the rest of my teeth and sculpted them beyond the standard form so they fit flawlessly with my smile. I had a friend speak very highly of Dr. Fiss and his staff so I went to ZocDoc to schedule the appointment which couldn't have been easier. As soon as I arrived at the office I got a big hello from Dr. Fiss and everyone else in the office. I really felt welcomed and comfortable. Going to the dentist is not something I look forward to, but Dr. Fiss made the experience easy, relaxing, and pain free. I unfortunately had a cavity and two crowns that needed to be replaced. No one wants to hear this, but I knew I was good hands with Dr. Fiss. He has a very friendly, caring, and confident demeanor that made me feel that I was in the hands of a dental expert that was not only great at his craft, but put my best interests first. Since I had to get a few things taken care of I've been in the office several times over the last month. It's always been easy to find a time sooner rather than later. After each appointment the office called or emailed me personally to make sure everything was okay. I gave him 5 stars and to be honest I don't think it's enough. There should be an option for 6 stars. You may wonder why I feel so strongly about passing along the positive words - As a 32 year old I've had several dentists since my job has caused me to move frequently. Dr Fiss is the best dentist that I have ever been to. I've been going for about 4 years now. I had some cosmetic work redone by him that a previous dentist performed several years back that was far from perfect. Dr Fiss corrected the crown and made me feel better. He's very informative and makes you feel confident in him. I've done whitening and had a night guard made there. Elizabeth my dental hygienist is amazing. She's great to talk to and does a very thorough job. Elizabeth can answer any questions and is super knowledgeable about everything that you might ask. I really enjoy my visits with her. I had one consultation with Dr. Fiss and it wasn't pleasant for me. First off, he didn't listen to me at all. My teeth are in pretty good shape, I just wanted to fix a small gap and then get a cleaning. He proceeded to talk over me and try to tell me I need $10K worth of veneers. Then he lectured me on how my teeth needed to be cleaned. Well, that's exactly why I was there. It had been a year since my last cleaning and I never normally go that long, but you know what life happens! Transitioning to a new dentist, being pregnant, and a bunch of other lift events will do that. Then comes the good part. With my insurance I was only required to pay $25 for that consultation. As I was going to pay, he goes to the receptionist - right in front of me - "she also got pictures taken". Yes, they took 4 pictures so they could sell me veneers and then made me pay an additional $50 for them! This guy and his office are a bunch of rip offs. I am SHOCKED that he has a bunch of 5 star reviews here. He must have good friends or pays people for good reviews to stay in business. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS GUY! read more

"STAY AWAY FROM DR BEN FISS" Palmolive building I had numerous problems with DR BEN FISS 919 Michigan Ave. Dr Fiss first of all took my gold inlays without crediting me for them or following their pattern he recreated my bite pattern of my teeth with new crowns which was an extremely painful adjustment. . I also had receding gum's where he chose to cover the open area with a crown which was too heavy thereby fracturing my tooth #31, 2-weeks later. Extremely painful. I had to go to an oral surgeon which cost me another $3000 for an implant and crown. Dr Fiss was so greedy (using up my insurance) that he was going to put a crown on tooth #30 before doing a root canal but I stopped him before he proceeded. I also had to go to another dentist for gum surgery which he ignored. I had all my crowns redone with another dentist. Dr FIss a self serving dentist that has no talent as a Cosmetic Dentist or Dentist. He is a money grubber, that cares more for his profit. AWFUL yes he is fast but the end results are very shabby, and if things go his way or you ask questions about his work he starts yelling at you. "Then the opposite side of the spectrum" Trials and tribulations of locating a good Dentist . There are many Dentist that are out there who are Dentist for a living with no talent, and the very few Dentist who have talent and are superior at what they do. Unfortunately the talented ones are hard to find but when you do find one you want to spread the word. I am talking about major work keeping your bite the same, temporary's that stay in, a smile that you haven't seen in a while since your last dentist painfully changed it. And he talks to you calmly to solve your dental problems in the most effective way. Being treated by Dr. Fiss and dealing with his wife and the older woman who works at the checkout station was one of the worst healthcare experiences I've ever had. I needed three crowns due to the incompetence of a former dentist and unfortunately ran right into the arms of Dr. Fiss. Long story short ( I am sparing you a lot of other details) Dr. Fiss began the crown work (put on a temp crown) and then sent me away to get root canals. Getting paid in ADVANCE for the ENTIRE job seemed to be really important to him and his staff so I paid $2000 (including insurance benefits). But only because I knew my benefits were going to change in the interim. When I finally returned to have the crown work finished I was told I needed to pay an additional $600. Surprise! Naturally I was upset, thought perhaps I was being gouged and decided to have the real work done somewhere else. I asked that a fair portion (that which was not completed) of the pre-payment be returned. The amount he came up with was $0. Not willing to lose more money on these teeth I returned to have the job completed and the amount increased to $800 (this seemed to be the fault of the woman who processes insurance). It got pretty ugly in the waiting area, with his wife striking a most unprofessional and self righteous tone. Finally, Dr. Fiss begrudgingly accepted the $600. After we settled the matter, he waited until I was vulnerable (in the chair) and proceeded to lecture me regarding the situation. I was very uncomfortable with that behavior. Dr. Fiss is aggressive, verbose, combative and unprofessional. He will talk over you and fail to listen with sincerity. I've never been treated so poorly by a medical professional. Nor have I ever experienced such aggressive fee collection prior to services rendered. In terms of the actual crown work, it's only been a few months but I don't have any major complaints except that I now have a longer flossing routine due to the larger spaces between the crowns. That may have been the case with any dentist, however. Who knows? I have had his work evaluated by 3 different dental professionals and only one of them commented negatively that the margins (spacing between the crowns) could've been better. The others thought the work was acceptable. All 3 agreed that they looked good because no metal was used. On a positive note, Dr. Fiss is fast and runs on time generally. If you decide to have major work done with Dr. Fiss, be sure to get everything in writing, don't pre-pay and doublecheck the work of the older woman who processes the insurance, she is not good at her job. read more

I never write reviews and I've had really bad experiences with dentists, many always trying to talk me into procedures I didn't need. Dr. Fiss suggested I get veneers, but I mildly dismissed the suggestion as being a vanity procedure. Then I realized then I was starting to get cavities on my front teeth and my bonding was starting to crumble. At 52, I decided I would go ahead and get veneers on my 4 front incisors as I wanted to address both structural and aesthetic issues. Getting veneers is a long and tedious process. Dr. Fiss made a great set of temporary veneers that looked really wonderful on me, very natural. When the real veneers came in, they "looked" like veneers - dense and white. Dr. Fiss had me meet the ceramist to have them refined and made more natural and fitting to my mouth and face. This process took 2 hours. when I came back to Dr. Fiss' office immediately after that, he was not satisfied and he had them remade completely . Dr. Fiss is a perfectionist and he is an artist. He knows what looks good on a person. He did not mince words when he said that he sees me and not my teeth first! Since my final veneers were put in, I have been getting many compliments on what a great smile I have (I would get these compliments anyway in my younger days, but not from young men 30 year my junior!). I have been seeing Dr. Fiss for over three years and plan on seeing him for many years to come! His office is gorgeous and his staff are very friendly and professional. Dr. Fiss's wife, Jodi, works in the office and is very helpful if you have questions and accommodating when scheduling appointments. Going to the dentist is something that most people dread, not me. I love my trips to the dentist. I'm greeted by Jodi at the front desk who is so friendly, its always a pleasure to be greeted by her. The facility is consistently clean and I'm in and out in a timely manner. Dr. Fiss (the alpha) performs a thorough check behind the work of the hygienist, making sure the life changing smile (veneers) he gave is properly maintained. He is a talented dentist, very caring, with great attention to detail and great aesthetic sense - a must in cosmetic dentistry. He is very meticulous and clearly takes pride in his work. Dr. Fiss is fabulous. I have been coming here for years. Everybody is so friendly and nice. Most importantly, my teeth have never been better. Yes, we may pay upfront. Any dentist anybody in my family has been to in the past 15 years does this, my children's dentist, the orthodontist and the periodontist all do this. So a couple of days after voicing my opinion to Dr. Fiss' office, he, himself called me and asked if there was anything he could to do help with the confusion. I find this not only kind, but very professional. It doesn't change my experience in his office, but it does show that he cares about his patients. I must also say that his "bedside manner" within the office was professional and he was very knowledgeable. It's just a shame he doesn't have a better equipped staff. read more

Dr. Fiss has been my dentist for 20 years. I cannot recommend him highly enough. He has helped me through restorative crowns, root canals, tooth grinding and most recently, dental veneers. In each and every experience he has patiently explained the situation, my options, and I have received beautiful results. His staff always takes the time to navigate insurance and payment options. I have also had a few dental emergencies, and the care that Dr. Fiss has taken to get me quick treatment, alleviate my anxiety and pain has been amazing. I feel he truly cares about me. I have a beautiful smile despite all my dental problems, because of Dr. Fiss. His office is beautiful and no effort has been spared to make it a comfortable, state of the art experience. One last thing, I lived out on the east coast for 5 years, and during that time I used to travel back to Chicago, because I felt he would give me the best care. read more
