Had to get fillings in twice for exposed tooth nerves. Both times, fillings fell out within a few months. Would not recommend

The time had come when I had to stop avoiding the unenviable task of finding a new dentist. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Barr and his staff. Ginny and Deb are two fantastic ladies up front, both with great senses of humor (the wry kind) and the maternal instincts I don't think I've seen in any doctor's office that I can remember. Christine was fabulous in her dental hygienist duties (also, great sense of humor), and Amanda was a warm and detail-oriented assistant when I went back for a couple of fillings the next day. Dr. Barr (who introduced himself as "Phil") got right down to business, and in his back pocket, he had a couple of great lawyer jokes for me. This all culminated with being very satisfied with the work product. Oh, and his kids have a pretty good band in Montreal: The Barr Brothers. Check them out.

Over the years I came to appreciate that reliability, and Dr. Barr was always a great professional. I should have written a five-star review a long time ago, not that the office would have needed it. The practice was sold recently to someone called Katherine Burton, who I've never seen. I have seen one of the other Dentists there, who is young and eager and seems knowledgeable. I do find the bedside manner not quite filling Dr. Barr's shoes, although I suppose that's something that comes with time. Other things have changed, too: the front desk staff, who I always liked, and I've had to trundle out to the other office in North Prov a few times because they couldn't reschedule me on South Main. None of which is a deal-killer, and I guess if I walked in the door today I wouldn't think much of it, but, I don't know, it's just the way my trust in the practice has been lowered just a bit that feels uncomfortable, somehow.

I could not make that appointment so they said they had NOTHING ELSE and they put me on a call list. How many businesses do you know that do horrible work and then don't offer to fix it? This just proves what I already thought - that he has no backbone. I like people who stand behind their work, not blame people for their shortcomings. He's probably going to treat me like I did something to cause this filling to come off because that's who he is. And he'll probably also tell me that he didn't have an appointment because I missed one cleaning or something. This dentist is weird. He takes things personally and has zero social skills. Any good review you see on here will soon be somebody who is upset. They will cancel appointments on you and not reschedule and then make you feel horrible for not coming in and seeing them. They are very disorganized and their scheduling is archaic. There is a very bizarre culture in that office and it's not centered around the patient as it should be.

There is also a small parking lot in the back. When I enter the building, I go downstairs for general dentistry. There is a small waiting room with a few chairs and the hygienist will bring you back to the room when ready. I never had to wait more than 5-10 minutes before meeting the hygienist. From February 2022 to September 2024, I went to Capitol Hill Dental for all my dental visits mostly for just cleaning and exams. The front desk staff and hygienist were always very friendly and we had great conversations. My teeth came out clean and were healthy. During my visit in September 2024, the staff informed me that next month Corporate has moved the general dentistry dentist and hygienist to another office and this location was going to be closed. They offered me to make my next appointment in that other office in Johnston or Scituate or to change dental offices. I decided to look for another dentist office in Providence since it is more convenient.

No doctor should utter these words after being asked questions:…read more "We don't know what you do for a living, but we don't have time to answer all your questions." That was what this dentist said to my husband today. We've never been made to feel so guilty for asking questions about our treatment. After several treatments over the last three months, my husband and I are taking our business elsewhere. This dentist has no bedside manner. She might be good at what she does, as far as her dental work goes, but her insensitivity to other human beings overrides whatever skill she may have as a dentist. I'm not sure why other reviewers mentioned that they will work with your financial situation - we've had numerous treatments that she said needed to be done right away (?) and once our insurance ran out, they were not willing to work out a payment plan. Doctor seems rushed - in both my visits, I ended up asking the assistant/hygienist my questions, because the doctor was already out of the room and barely acknowledged me. (But I did get to hear her conversation with her assistant all about her mother and her nursing home while I was convulsing from the pain.) The office staff was nice and helpful, but I felt so uncomfortable with this dentist. I left almost in tears last week. Unless you have full availability during 9-4 hours, it will be hard to get an appointment here and it's really not worth that wait. We found another dentist already that will be taking us tomorrow in the evening hours. (Ricardo Burdiel in Cranston) This doctor seriously needs to work on her communication skills. And not be rude to her patients for asking questions.

Everything was explained before and during, which made the process so much easier. Dr. Kraut also uses the gate control theory (applying vibration to the cheek) while doing the numbing injections, which made them completely unable to be felt. The numbing injections are usually the most painful part of any dental procedure for me, so I was shocked to feel absolutely nothing. I wish more dental offices would understand and apply gate control theory methods when administering injections, because it makes them painless. I felt no pain during or even after the root canals were finished. Nobody likes a root canal, but Dr. Kraut makes the experience extremely pleasant. The office is also very clean and contemporary and the front desk people are very nice. Can't recommend this place enough!

Everything people have been writing- like how he walks you through the process, was 100% accurate. He was methodical, explained everything, and there was NO pain. A work colleague begrudgingly told me he was getting a root canal one day and when he told me it was with Dr Kraut, I was excited to fill him in, to his relief, and no surprise- he had the same positive experience.

The first time I made my appointment online and I even called them to confirm. I then arrived for my "appointment" only to be informed that I was discarded from the schedule because I did not answer their "phone call" which I never got in the first place. I figured mistakes happen, so I made another "appointment" for June 2nd @ 9:00 am. I even stayed, and filled out all of my insurance info since I was a new patient. Two weeks went by, and silly me did not call to confirm/double check with them because I figured I was physically there and filled out all of my information. Additionally, there was no phone call from them either to confirm. I bet you can guess what happened next. I arrived to find that I was not on the schedule. They tried to offer me another appointment for September - a whole three months away. I just told them to forget it I will go somewhere else. Finally, I'd like to thank Friends and Family Dental for wasting my time. Keep up the great work! What a joke.
