I've trusted Tomoko with my crazy eyebrows for almost 8 years - I even followed her to the Benefit Brow Bar in Lynnwood after the Seattle downtown site shut down! She has exceptional talent doing brows and shapes them to what naturally fits your face, not what is super trendy (microblading). We were traveling abroad this summer for a couple weeks and I was lamenting to Tomoko that I wouldn't be able to get my eyebrows done right before a big event we were attending. She floated the idea of brow lamination as a way to keep my eyebrows perky and lifted a little longer than usual. Usually I'm pretty skeptical of brow procedures, but I trusted Tomoko's talent and went with it after looking at photos of her work compared to other brow artists. I'm glad I did it! My eyebrows looked lifted and done for at least 3 weeks (would have been longer if i hadn't forgotten about not getting the brows wet in the first 24 hours). A quick brush in the morning to tidy them up and then some plucking underneath the brows - I didn't even need brow powder because the hair was set going in the same direction, making them look fuller. This review is really special to me. It's my first review of 2020, and it's my 100th review! I'm such a last minute person, that I decided that I wanted to get my eyebrows waxed for New Years Eve. Mind you, I made this decision on 12/30. Literally the night before New Years Eve, so I fully expected Benefit BrowBar to be booked. I tried making an appointment for the downtown Seattle location online, and it didn't ask me if I had any preferences for an esthetician. You could only select "no preference", which is unusual. I was shocked to see that there were still available times for 12/31, so I clicked on it. Whenever I tried to select a time, it wouldn't work. I thought that it was a glitch, so I tried again in a couple of hours. The same thing was happening, so I decided to Google Benefit Brow Bar Macy's Downtown Seattle. To my surprise, Yelp marked them as CLOSED! I was extremely disappointed, but I decided to take a look to see if Alderwood had anything available. When the list of estheticians appeared, I was surprised to see that Tomoko was listed as one of them! Over the years, I've seen extensive reviews on how amazing she is at the Macy's Benefit BrowBar Downtown Seattle location. There wasn't one single negative review about her at all, and everybody said that you NEEDED to get your brows done by her! Every time I tried to book an appointment with her, there was none available! When I saw that she had a wide range of openings available on 12/31, I jumped at the opportunity. I made an appointment for 12/31 at 6 PM. At 9 AM on 1/1, Tomoko texted me to let me know that the mall closes at 6 PM since it's a holiday, and she asked if I could come in at 5:20 PM instead. She apologized for the inconvenience, and I really appreciated it. Upon arrival, I had to do a couple of circles before finding where it was located in Macy's. It's on the first floor and if you're already inside the mall, then it won't be hard to locate. It's in the beauty area inside the mall, and I believe it's right next to the Mac counter. Tomoko sat me down, and she explained what she was going to do to my brows in detail. She kept asking if what she suggested for my brows was okay, and she kept making sure that it was what I wanted. We made small talk, she was very friendly, and she paid attention to every single detail of my brow. She made sure that no unwanted hairs were left unplucked! I thought that only the Benefit BrowBar in downtown Seattle was closing, but Tomoko informed me that the entire Macy's down there is closing! I was in shock and I mentioned how I was always trying to book an appointment with her when she worked down there, but she was always booked. She told me that she was always booked out two weeks in advanced down there! Book appointments with her now before she starts filling up again! When she showed me the final result of my brows, I was extremely happy! My old brows were extremely boring, and they had no definition to them at all. Tomoko gave me a really nice natural arch, and it didn't look high or crazy at all. She offered to do a light brow makeup, to which I was hesitant. The last time I went to Benefit Brow Bar, the esthetician put some really heavy makeup on my brows. Although she did a good job on waxing my brows, the brow makeup she put on me made me look like I had caterpillers on my eyebrows. Tomoko assured me that she does a really good job at a natural brow makeup look, so I agreed to put my trust in her. She finished putting brow makeup on my left eyebrow in less than a minute, and she showed it to me in the mirror. I was extremely happy with the way it looked! It truly did look natural, and I appreciated that she showed it to me before doing both eyebrows. After we were done, she didn't push any products onto me at all! The worst feeling is when people try to push products on you, when you have no interest in needing/purchasing it. I hate saying no to people, so I always end up buying products that I don't need. After Tomoko finished my brows, she could have easily pushed the makeup palette that she used on me, but she didn't. All in all, the 30 minutes went by extremely quickly! It felt like I was only there for 5 minutes. I paid $22 for the brows (there was no tax), and I tipped her after. Remember to bring cash, because there is NOT an option to tip with card! After the downtown Macy's closed, I was so sad that Tomoko would be moving to Alderwood. I have gone to her for my brows for over 8 years since I worked downtown. I live in Tacoma and it's been over a year since I've seen her. I've tried multiple different places down south but no one knows how to do my brows like Tomoko. I went in with my sister prior to her appointment and liked her brows that I came back later (booked the next available appt.)The pic that I attached looks so great but doesn't show the uneven hot mess I walked in with haha. After my previous negative experience, both managers (Vikeshni and Emily) reached out to me via a personal phone call and Yelp message. Needless to say, I was extremely impressed with how warmly and professionally they handled the situation. Their huge effort to mend things did not go unnoticed. They, along with make up artist Peggie, went above and beyond to make everything right- even so far as to give me an adorable complimentary bag of sample products to try at home! I've been going to Tomoko for my brows for almost 10 years and she always does an amazing job! I've gotten a lot of comments over the years on how good my brows look and it's all thanks to Tomoko! Until very recently she worked at the Macy's Benefit Brow Bar in downtown Seattle (about 3 miles from my house) but she recently relocated to the Alderwood location after the Seattle store closed. The Alderwood location is about 15 miles from my house but I can't imagine trusting anyone else with my brows so I followed her to the new location, which is super nice! Easy parking and a much nicer store than the downtown location. DO NOT GO HERE!!!! I had never gotten my eyebrows waxed before, and I came to Benefit BrowBar after reading good reviews. I was "greeted" by RAYA, and was immediately suspicious, as she had terrible, unplucked eyebrows herself. She did not clean my eyes/eyebrows in any way before starting to wax. The waxing itself seemed normal, so I let her continue. Although, as I realized later, she applied hot wax onto my eyelids, way lower than necessary. And immediately after, she roughly applied concealer to the red, irritated area around my eyebrows, IRRITATING THEM MORE. It was extremely painful. She then put gel in my eyebrows, and left. We gave a small tip out of courtesy, which I DEEPLY REGRET. As I was driving away, the area around my eyebrows was stinging painfully, and looked disturbingly red, but I assumed it was normal and would go away within a few hours. BUT NO! My eyes began swelling and the skin directly under my eyebrows turned BRIGHT RED, where she had put wax on my eyelids unnecessarily. I started panicking, and iced my eye in hopes that the swelling would go down. I went to bed that night praying that the swelling would be gone when I woke up. The next morning... MY EYE WAS SWOLLEN SHUT. I COULD HARDLY KEEP IT OPEN. Not to mention the redness was even more pronounced. I went to the doctor, and was informed that I have superficial burns on my eyelids that will take around 2 weeks to heal. The swelling went down eventually, but my eyes are still burned and look as though a layer of skin was waxed off. I am extremely disappointed and angry at the way this waxing was done, and I highly suggest that NO ONE EVER GO TO BENEFIT BROWBAR, ESPECIALLY NOT TO RAYA. She is clearly incompetent and knows nothing about waxing. I may have scars for the rest of my life thanks to this. read more

I came in here the other day to use my free birthday wax. I usually just went to Heavenly Nails cause their prices are cheap and they always did a good job, BUT I had been wanting to try this place out and why not when its free for your birthday?! I saw Jessica, she is new, only been with the company a little over a week when I saw her but she did a fantastic job! I thought my brows were bad when I went in but she along with the other gals told me I had such an awesome eyebrow shape and I just needed to clean them up, which I did. Not sure why there aren't any updated or recent reviews about this place but if you need a brow wax then Marissa is definitely the person who can do that for you! I'm quite a perfectionist when it comes to my brows. I prefer my brows looking alike & I do not agree with the whole bs saying "brows are like sisters". I personally don't like high arched brows but I naturally have one so Marissa was able to quickly mapped out my brows first before she started waxing away! I've been coming to this location for a little over a year. I came to them with a misshaped eyebrow due to a previous establishment I used to go to prior to finding out about Benefit Brow Bar. They worked with my issue and helped me with the growing out process. The staff here are very professional while maintaining a relaxed and friendly demeanor. They map your brows out for you and show you where your brows should be (ideally for your face shape) and confirm with you what they want to do before starting the waxing. After they wax and clean up your eyebrows they show you and will fix anything you don't like. They do suggest products to you, so be prepared for that. Also they only accept tips in the form of cash so try to have some on hand when visiting them. I definitely recommend trying this out. read more
