Dear, dear Benchwarmer's. This review will surely be mixed. My hopes weren't too high for this place. I've passed by this nearly deserted plaza many times and never felt the urge to enter. But the urge for a burger was strong late at night and they had a special going through Uber Eats, as I'm not sure I'd have tried this place otherwise. The burger was surprising large and decent. It was undeniably tasty and prepared exactly how I ordered it which rarely happens at other places. But the fries... oh boy. Whatever oil they fried them with was undoubtedly old and nasty. I had to drown them in hot sauce to be able to eat them. My digestive system did not enjoy that decision. In term of ambience... this is a bar. No matter the time of day, the vibes will always be a bar. Very sticky. Sepia-like, with drunk, belligerent customers and cigarettes littering the storefront. Not sure I'd eat in here. But hey, I gotta give them their props for that burger. I'd definitely order it again if the craving arises, especially since I live in the neighborhood. I came to Benchwarmers with a large group of friends to watch the Georgia Tech homecoming game! They have a large convenient parking lot which I appreciate. Benchwarmers was able to really easily accommodate our large group and our server was so friendly, getting to know us and making sure we had refills and checking in regularly since we had people dropping in and out! She was so sweet, actually sitting down with us, asking names, and just generally giving us a memorable experience!! Our group split a couple of pitchers, some apps including spinach artichoke dip, and my boyfriend and I decided to split the Jerk Chicken wrap with a side of tots. This wrap was seasoned SO well!! Sports bar with TVs and screens all over. You can't not see a game here, there are screens for every event. It is a dive bar situation but that doesn't make it bad. They have drinks specials often. So it may be worth stopping in for those. There is free parking because it's in a strip mall. Now at the time of this review,the strip mall is pretty much abandoned, and this may be the only thing live. The shots come up in little Dixie cups, not regular shot glasses, which is funny to me for some reason lol. They have a full bar so you should not have any short of options. They have plenty of beers available in bottle but not sure about the draft situation. They have a pool table room in back. There are at least 5 or 6 tables so you should be fine as far as looking for a place for billiards. Tia took care of me at the bar. She approached me immediately and we had good convo even before I looked at the menu. So I appreciate the customer service. Lemon pepper wings (wet) were good. They had plenty of wet all over the tray so they did they job! They come with celery and either Bleu cheese or ranch dressing. Bacon cheeseburger was pretty sizable. Comes with onion, pickles, tomato, and lettuce. Got mine medium and it was cooked pretty well. The portion of cheese was nice and it had a nice spicy kick to it. The salt couldn't stay on the pretzel but that was fine. We both got burgers. I got the smokehouse burger and my friend got the hangover burger with fries & ranch. The problem with the burger and fries was that they seemed unseasoned. I never add extra salt to my fries in a restaurant but I had to this time. I also had to add salt and pepper to my burger. The service was alright. I saw our waitress just sitting in another booth while we needed more water. It's annoying how restaurants charge for ranch. $75 with tax & tip for a pretzel, 2 burgers with fries, and 2 beers. Benchwarmer's tends to always end up as a warm up to a drunken evening. Love this divey spot right off of I-85 - cheap drinks with greasy & tasty bites. I have definitely had regretful evenings here where we plan on having "just one drink" and end up bar hopping from here. Don't do that. Either have just one drink or stay here lol. I have found myself here actually after a boozy evening and needing some sustenance so I ended up hydrating on WATER lol a true benchwarmer maybe? Food is actually pretty tasty - we ordered some wings, fried pickles and tater tots and it helped soak up the alcohol and really just hit the spot. This is the place to visit when you are drunk and don't realize that your food is cold and tasteless. Some of the worst bar food I've had. The mango margarita was the best part of the meal. I found this place because of Yelp. I never would have come otherwise. It is the one remaining business of a derelict shopping center and a sports bar. But is was close to where I was going and sports bars usually don't get numerous five star reviews. So in we went -- and found a cavernous dark place with a few families digging into their burgers and every sport known to man playing on the TVs. Menu was bar food with occasional odd diversions. (Salmon?) I went for the bleu burger -- my wife went for something with bacon on it. For drink, we had iced tea. Usually, in a bar, tea stinks. This was dead on perfect -- strong not bitter. A small thing. And they kept the small things right. The Mac and Cheese was just a little spicy and the texture was perfect (not just a glob of bland). The baked potato my wife got looked pretty good too. The burger? Medium rare that was genuine medium rare. The blue cheese and onion rings had great flavor (these were good onion rings -- and did not overpower everything else). Obviously, not something you go miles to have. First off I just want to say I'm thankful for Bench Warmers being open on Thanksgiving. It gave me and my dad the opportunity to spend some time together and some watch football. This was my first time going to Bench Warmers and I was really impressed. There is tons of parking available out in the parking lot so no matter the occasion or event I'm almost for certain you'd be able to find parking. The place is pretty big. One of the biggest bars I've been to and I didn't even go around the whole place to explore. As you know, I came with my father but this is also a great place for a friendly date or group outing. Given that it is Thanksgiving I didn't expect for the place to be busy. We sat at the bar with a few others. The ladies at the bar were so polite and nice. Since I was only there to have a drink I went with the Thursday special which is a Long Island Tea ($6). I'm not sure if that's an every Thursday special but it was today. I also gave in and had an appetizer as well. I went with the Jalapeño Mac & Cheese ($3.99) and my dad had the 6 pc lemon pepper wings ($9.99). The Jalapeño Mac & Cheese was pretty good. They weren't made with your typical noodles but I've had these kind before. You could taste the spicy flavor and the Mac was cheesy as well. Definitely had to be baked which I like. It wasn't rushed and whoever cooked it really took the time and effort to make sure I enjoyed it and I did. I also had a few of my dads wings and I was impressed by the size and taste of the wings. You have the option to get them dry or wet so I knew then that they'd have some flavor to them. I have such a soft spot for this place. I have been going here for years. When I first started going it was awesome! Great place to grab a drink at happy hour, during a sporting event, or just after a rough day. Even better the food was amazing. Then for a little while I felt like this place was plummeting a bit. Food, service, and atmosphere wasn't quite up to par so needless to say I stopped going. Here we are present day and I decided to give it another shot and boy was I all wrong!!! I walked in and the place looked like they replaced the carpeting, booths were refurbished, and it smelled fresher (I believe there is no longer smoking in the facility?? Not a dealbreaker for me but I know it is for others). I had a good feeling. I wish I took more pics of the interior because this place is huge! Plenty of space with pool tables, dart boards, and, yes, ladies and gentlemen pinball! We ordered the pretzel with mustard and queso, wings, and the nachos with shredded seasoned chicken (always a must when going here). I also got a couple of fried chicken salads to go (I know, I know it was cheat day, so sue me??) for later and those were just as drool worthy. By the way, don't discount the burgers because they are extra yummy as well. Ugh We were hungry on the way home from a girls night out and I will say this: The bar was open. The bartender didn't seem like your typical one but - moving on. We ordered wings at the bar and wanted to be seated so we "thought" they advised the cook. Once seated the waiter was out of control. She couldn't answer questions, had no control of her table. It was 6 of us and we weren't asking anything out of the ordinary. She was upset about us talking amongst each other asking why the check wasn't transferred from the bar. She just kinda did what she wanted after that with an attitude. Then tried to act like she cared when it came time for a tip. This is the first time that I didn't give out a tip. She wasn't getting one. The reason for the 2 stars is because it was open super late and the buffalo Mac and cheese was to die for! It was so good. Like totally caught me off guard. Benchwarmers! It's where everybody knows your name - well, if you come here enough, which many people here do. It's the area's local dive bar, and despite the significant (to put it mildly) gentrification of the area over the years, Benchwarmers has remained extremely divey. Which is a good thing! It's a friendly place, in a rowdy ATL kinda way, and it's got all the staples - pool tables, darts, veteran bartenders, a frequently dirtbag-approved selection of music coming from one of those use-your-cell-phone-to-pay-to-play-a-song things, and an outside smoking area. It's also really big, plenty of room to bring 12 of your closest friends and make some new ones (which you might regret in the morning). read more

Football Sunday is absolutely wonderful! Me and the wife had a GREAT time there. We needed a place to watch our Chicago Bears play on short notice. And being there once before, was the perfect Choice! The atmosphere was so live and well diverse. The wife order a bottle of Prosecco and I got a pitcher of 420 draft beer with a few picklebacks. I've been here a few times now. I had always heard about it for a long time, but never started coming here until USC moved this to be the Alumni bar. It is large, reasonably priced, and fairly divey, but not excessively so. Parking is abundant and it is right off I-85 for a quick getaway. On a recent trip the local BudWiser Rep bought our Pitcher of Monday Night Blind Pirate Ale. So yes, it's that kind of bar where drinkers, sports fans, and the likes who service this bunch converge. Lastly I heard "Guilty Of Love", which I hadn't heard in 15-20 years. I had to look it up. It is Baby Face's only real break single. If you are looking for an immaculately decorated, pristine and well maintained restaurant...then Benchwarmers may not be your place. But, if you are looking for solid food, lots of TV's, a good selection of beer and poker on particular nights at a place in an old shopping center in Brookhaven, this is your place! I have been to Benchwarmers on a few occasions and I can easily say that the service is hit and miss. Their main dining area with the high tops and booths always seems to be understaffed. Outside of the spotty service, Benchwarmers offers exactly what you presume it is going to offer from the outside. The food has always been solid, priced perfectly and served along side any alcoholic drink you want. I personally always go for the burgers, the patty melt to be exact and side that with tater tots and wash it down with a PBR! A few things to be mindful of here - 1. They have a smoking section 2. Its kind of run down 3. They have regularly scheduled poker tourneys that take place in the main dining room. With all that bein said, they are who they are, take it or leave it. This is my first time at Benchwarmer's where I didn't feel a "welcoming vibe" I'm a returning customer, I visit this place at least twice a week. I usually sit at the bar, however the bar was full (usually more crowded during football season) - My server ASHLEY ...introduced herself, took my drink order, and LEFT! I saw her going from table to table but she didn't acknowledge my table at all once I got my drink. -I didn't see her again until about 15 min AFTER I was done with the drink. I'm a server too so I know the proper way to touch all your tables at once. This outing wasn't bad enough to stop me from coming here but I'll definitely be particular about who I dine with if I can't see Scott at the bar! read more
