My major complaint is that the circulation department at West Regional is extremely slow. In particular the library purchases movies for rental. The circulation/preparation department then sits on them for six to eight weeks after release date before making them available to rent. Now on average new release movies cost from $15.00 to $35.00 each. In most cases they will purchase from 12-20 copies of the movie. At the rental rate of 75 cents for a one week rental or the same amount for a three week rental of T.V. shows by the time they are available to rent the library never recoups the initial investment for each title. This is my major beef. The library uses taxpayer funds to make these purchases knowing full well they are going to lose money on each title. It used to not be this way. What can be done? Probably nothing. Who can fight governmental organizations and win!!!

There is sooooo much to choose from for the children and youth. They really try so hard to have things to do for them at the library. I am just so impressed by the staff. We love making a day of it. It's worth the hike for us because we are regular library users, being home schoolers. I've found this library to be the best of those I've visited in the county, and I'm something of a library connoisseur, though I admit I haven't visited them all yet. Btw as for the other reviews: Just because someone liked "the cute little red haired librarian" is not a reason to give a review. IMHO.

If they don't like you, if they think you come from AHEPA elderly apartments, they will lock you out of the computer, not even giving you the mandatory time alloted by the MPL system. They will also bully you in other ways. Happy to wear a mask, so don't go there. This isn't a review about COVID policies. These bitter little ladies don't have many visitors. Virtually every other branch in the system is exemplary. Im just wondering why they are so passive aggressive and punitive to the few patrons that they do have. It canWest Mobile, Saraland, Springhill, Downtown, even Toulmenville ... all have a staff of welcoming and helpful employees. Who understand the purpose of a library in the community, and strive to serve their patrons and assist as needed, happily. It cant be that Semmes is upscale, they are country and not in a high income area, unlike other local libraries here. So what is the issue?

You will find it also extremely spacious, clean and very pleasant. And comfy! There are many little places to sit down, rest and enjoy current periodicals and a pretty awesome selection of books. The computer area is also large. There is an upper floor with tables for reading or even playing cards with friends. The staff is amazing. Gee, just the 100% guarantee of a friendly face and big smile. To top it off, just a few steps away is a lovely deck overlooking the pond and fountain. I think most of Baldwin County library cards are accepted. It doesn't matter - just take some time to drop in and see the beautiful building.

She made reading exciting and reviewed all types of books there are... science, fiction, discovery, and etc. She then explained how the kids would use the electronic card catalogue to find books about their interests. She kept everything easy and fun. She even had some special books pulled and set aside for our den. Great staff and great library!

They have about 10 computer for use by the public and you can also rent DVDs here very cheaply.
