Ben and Jerry's is always a great visit for a treat. Their ice cream is top notch and they always have facilities that are more than adequate. This shop is located across the street from UM campus in one of the busier and more appealing commercial areas in Ann Arbor. On this stop, I'll note that the service was up to B&J's standard and the prices were what I would expect. My wife and I generally split a two-scoop cup when we visit an ice cream establishment in order to moderate calories and conserve cost, but mostly to allow for us to sample more than one flavor at a time. It also allows us to experiment a little with mixing complementary flavors. On this trip, we mixed an old favorite with a different option (for us). Chunky Monkey is a longstanding favorite for us but Tonight Dough was a new revelation. It's been around since 2015 but we have never tried it. Created in collaboration with Jimmy Fallon, it is a mix of chocolate and caramel with chocolate cookie swirls, chocolate chip cookie dough and peanut butter cookie dough. It pairs well with the wonderful banana flavor in Chunky Monkey. It was indeed a treat. I'll look forward to trying this combination again. I'll also look forward to my next trip to the UM area to make another stop at this particular shop. read more

Great location in the heart of college campus. Ice cream was delicious and service was excellent. There was only one other couple in the store with us, so it was fairly quiet inside. We enjoyed fun interior decorations and comfortable air conditioning on a hot summer day. read more

It's always so nice to see a Ben and Jerry's scoop shop in the wild! So rare in Michigan! I stopped recently to see if they had one of their limited flavors in stock. I was wanting a scoop of it in a cone, but sadly they didn't have it available (Marshmallow Sky) However, this location did have a freezer full of limited edition pints and Marshmallow Sky was available to purchase by the ping. I was going to purchase the pint and a cup to share with my boyfriend, but service was lacking. One of the 3 workers was pulling out a binder full of every ingredient and every scoop flavor available. So hey, if you want to check ingredients and if it's dairy free or vegan -- they at least offer this to you. We left with just the pint that day (which was a tad disappointing) but I look forward to stopping in again soon. read more

You can't go wrong with ice cream from Ben & Jerry's! We came on a busy day but the service was great and had the line moving quickly. There's tons of options & pints to go, the only downside is the price on the pints is really high. The staff were friendly and very helpful, the cones fresh and the ice cream delicious. Oh how I love ice cream. I'm eventually working my way towards giving up diary completely, but until then I will enjoy! Getting ice cream here is more about the experience since this is the only location in Michigan. Especially being that you can go to literally any grocery store and get the exact same product. Anyway, I have visited Ann Arbor numerous times, especially the summer, yet I have never came to Ben & Jerry's. Well, in the dead of winter, I finally decided to stop in. There was only one other customer inside so I was glad there wasn't a line wrapped around Michigan Stadium. But why would anyone be crazy enough to be getting ice cream when it's 20 degrees outside. I am and it tasted delicious. I decided to get butter pecan because it's one of my favorites and I don't think I've ever had a scoop that I didn't like. The person at the register was friendly, and fast. I started eating my ice cream so fast that I didn't even remember to take a pic until halfway through lol. Ordered online for pickup and it was a super easy transaction. Their website is super easy to use. I think the typical pick up time is about 15-20 minutes after you place your order, which is a decent time. My order was already packed and waiting in the freezer when I arrived in the shop. Came in on a Sunday about 6pm. Shop clean and a lot of room to sit! Excellent....really good service from 2 students I'm sure that go to u of m. Very friendly and accommodating. My daughter had chocolate in a cup, said it was delish. I shared the brownie sundae with 2 scoops of ice cream (only comes with 1 but I got 2 scoops for an extra $1.25) - 4 of us were sharing. Since it is a chain the variety is limited and the waffle cones are way too sweet it gives me a stomach ache (sometimes). However, the place is clean and there are tables where you can sit (if there is room). Staff was friendly, but I had a pretty sad experience overall. First problem was that the milkshake was thin and frothy. I came to Ben and Jerry's for a milkshake, expecting a superior product because I know their ice cream to be superior--I'm a big fan. But when you pay $6+ for a shake that is too thin, that is a huuuuge disappointment. No bueno. Okay, here's my other complaint: I couldn't even drink the sub-par milkshake because of the stupid paper straw!!! Unpopular opinion, I know, but I hate those paper straws. I legit think I'll invest in my own reusable straw to keep in my purse at all times after this experience. Let's be totally honest with ourselves, paper straws don't work because paper is not water-resistant like plastic is. Sipping the frothy milkshake through the paper straw only lasted about a minute before the thing started to suck in air from becoming saturated with moisture. And then it completely perforated and was rendered useless because the straw is too big for the opening in the plastic lid. I'm two minutes into trying to enjoy the sad shake and now I can't even sip it at all?? I just paid $6.20 for disintegrating cardboard floating around in a frothy mess. Bogus. Ben and Jerry's, I respect your ice cream and I respect your employees. I also respect the ideal of reducing waste, but you cannot do so at the expense of product functionality. Find a different sized straw or a different sized lid if you want to keep paper straws. If you can't do that, then you can't successfully sell the milkshakes because people can't successfully drink them. read more

Your standard Ben & Jerry's store. Inside it's a little run down, not quite as spiffy as it started years ago. But let's be real. You're not going for ambiance. You're going for Cherry Garcia and Chunky Monkey. And they've got that along with a couple dozen flavors, fancy cones, toppings, and more (ice cream cakes!). Plus--pints to go! This review is solely based on my experience at the shop. The ice cream itself was amazing as B&J's always is. The shop is in an old building downtown which is cool, but it's dirty. The employee was very helpful but did not appear to be knowledgeable about the ice cream. I received a prank call while at the store. Someone called the store's phone and asked for me by name. She told me she was the manager and then proceeded to say highly inappropriate things and use profanity. I left immediately and watched my back all the way to my car. If you give them 24 hours they can make one with the ice cream flavors you wish. The owner is a bit overbearing and he embarrasses his workers all the time which I HATE. I think it's so rude and unprofessional and you just feel awful for the poor college kids who work there. Anyways, which flavors are good and which ones need recipe adjustments? -Cheesecake Brownie: eww! It tastes like molded milk with bits of brownies throughout. I don't think they got the cheesecake taste down. -Milk & Cookies: tastes like cookies and cream alright. -Red Velvet: disgusting. They haven't mastered the red velvet cake taste yet. Just tastes like nasty cake mix--but not red velvet-flavored. -Banana Split: there are chunks of frozen banana and strawberries which are kind of weird but the fudge sauce is yummy and decadent throughout. You really taste the bananas and everything else comes more as an aftertaste. -Chocolate Peppermint Crunch: mmm, it's basically decadent chocolate ice cream with chocolate peppermint crunch balls that burst with flavor. Yum! -New York Super Fudge Chunk: I'm a fan. The walnuts and almonds are delicious and mixed with the white fudge throughout--yum! This has a wonderful crunch, yet creamy texture. -Phish Food: there's something about the marshmallows that just make this heavenly. I'm not a fan of marshmallows but it adds to the creaminess, and the crunchy fish with caramel that bursts out make for an ice cream candy bar mix. -Half-baked: chocolate and vanilla ice cream with cookie dough and fudge brownies. While the brownies are on the dry side, the cookie dough is lovely--very creamy and sugary. -Chocolate Fudge Brownie: I adore the chocolate ice cream this has. It's so creamy and decadent. The brownies are a bit dry but they add a nice contrast to the rich creaminess. FINAL VERDICT: It's a bit over-priced, okay, a lot overpriced, but their ice cream is good--especially in brownie sundae form. read more

We had Ben and Jerry's come to our daughter's wedding yesterday. What an amazing job they did. They brought four flavors that we got to pick, real whipped cream, caramel and chocolate sauces, and a whole bunch of toppings. We asked them to keep everything gluten free since the bride and I can't have gluten. The owner did such a great job. He even brought gluten free Oreos for us. All of our guests enjoyed having ice cream sundaes and raved about how delicious it was. The dairy free strawberry marshmallow was a big hit. I highly recommend having Ben and Jerry's come to any big event! read more

Back where I live, we don't have Ben & Jerry's scoop shops. That means that in order to get our Cherry Garcia, we would have to make the trip to the grocery store, buy an entire pint, and then fail to control ourselves as we devour the whole carton. Repeat maybe a couple of times a month. Well, not only does Ann Arbor's Ben & Jerry's let you buy smaller scoops of ice cream, they also have other treats like sundaes and shakes, not to mention way more flavors than the local grocery store! It's also open late at night, and, yes, you can still buy ice cream by the pint. The service at this location is pretty good. The only thing is that at night, when a lot of college students are coming for their late night dessert runs, the line can get pretty backed up. However, the servers always try their best to keep the line moving and give everyone their ice cream! Prices feel a little more than some other ice cream places in the area, especially given the size of their scoops are smaller compared to Blank Slate or Washtenaw Dairy. Because it's Ben & Jerry's, you don't quite get that unique, homemade, local feel that you get from other places. With that said, however, you know that you'll still be getting quality ice cream. I mean, it's Ben & Jerry's, two of the most recognized men who share a special place in America's heart, right next to Colonel Sanders and Abraham Lincoln. read more

We went to Ben and Jerry's on state yesterday for some ice cream and my mom ordered a 2 scoop sugar cone ice cream and dropped it on the floor before even tasting it and ended up having to throw it away. As we were walking out the owner who goes by the name Matt asked my mom what flavor ice cream she had gotten and gave her a new one free of charge. I left here so disappointed on Saturday I don't know how I'll recover. Ben and Jerry's has always been the bomb.com to me, so when we chose B&J over froyo I thought it was a super safe bet. We came because of their new milk and cereal flavors, feeling adventurous enough to try it. We walk in and while relatively not busy, I couldn't help but notice how dirty everything was; all the tables, the floors, everything. I get my usual sprinkles waffle cone and got scoops of the Cocoa Loco (think cocoa pebbles) and Totally Baked (brownie and choco chip cookie dough). They sounded amazing but both flavors fell flat. Cocoa Loco was too milky flavored with a really odd texture, and the Totally Baked was really lacking in both brownies and cookies. I couldn't help shake that something tasted off...which I figured out was the waffle cone. It tasted reminiscent of dish soap; not even joking. Did I still eat every ounce of it? Yes. Was it worth over 6 bucks? No. 3 stars because from past experiences I know they are better than this. read more

When I have ate Ben and Jerry's in the past, it was always on a pint from the local store. Never was i impressed, then I went to the actual ice cream shop. In the actual shop they have about 20-25 flavors along with the pints and various other things ( very similar to Baskin robins). They also can give you multiple scoops for whatever size cup u order (best flavor is milk and cookies ) and nice size portions. Overall it is not no cold stone but it is in the convo for second best in the area. read more

Everyone knows about the ice cream so this review is just about the store and staff. As a former ice-cream store employee (Baskin-Robins) the first I do when sitting foot in any ice cream is the sniff-test (which incidentally is also a good way to pick out a nursing home). Ben & Jerry passes with flying colors as the entire store is fragrant with the smell of freshly made waffle cones. The staff are super friendly and on hand to help with giving out samples. In fact, I was encouraged to sample beyond the 3-4 flavors I already tried. Love the new milk and cookies flavor! This is a bustling area right near the Michigan campus. We do not have a Ben And Jerry's in Canada (we just have the ice cream in Walmart) so I wanted to say I have been to one. Pretty standard ice cream, I like Baskin Robins chocolate Chip Cookie Dough a lot better. I also tried the Pumpkin Cheesecake Ice-cream and it tasted like Pumpkin and not Cheesecake. Ben and Jerry's prides itself in having high standards for its ingredients (such as fair trade sourcing and dairy from cows not treated with RBGh). This shall be my go-to ice cream spot in town! For a Ben and Jerry's it is pretty good. The staff are always friendly and patient with the ordering process. Good selection of cakes and ice cream in the tubs in the freezer, too. The ice cream is soft and reliably comforting. That being said, it is somewhat filthy. Just look at the tables you're sitting at. No one really wipes up the grime or stray crumbs from the ice cream cones. Four stars because no one cares too much, it's a good place to remind you of carefree summer days as a kid, and we all know those were filled with dirt. I never thought I would prefer another ice cream to Ben and Jerry's but when they moved next door to Stucchi's I found out: servings are smaller, ice cream is no creamier or tastier, and prices are higher at B&Js. I had a great waffle cone with strawberry today. I'm really writing this review for service. It's graduation weekend and downtown Ann Arbor is jam-packed. The guy behind the counter was by himself cause his co-worker bailed and wasn't answering calls. But he still held it together pretty well. He didn't appear rude and angry and tried his best to quickly get everyone's orders. He had to run between making fresh waffle cones, scooping ice cream and running the cash register. It's a mediocre but slightly overpriced for ice cream. I would go here if you LOVE a particular flavor of Ben and Jerry's, It's definitely worth a try, but it's a bit of a rip-off.. I personally love the Phish Food flavor. It has: Dark chocolate fish, caramel, and marshmallow fluff. It's delicious! If you're a cookie dough lover: The Half Baked flavor is also great. It is chocolate and vanilla ice cream, with swirls of brownie batter and chocolate chip cookie dough. Lastly- The Cherry Garcia is also pretty good- It is chocolate covered cherries with fudge flakes in vanilla ice cream. Overall, I'd say it's good for a try, but not something I would say, stay home with a pint. It's a better deal. read more
