The teacher to student ratio can be a little better (when can it not), but I can definitely tell that the teachers really care about their students and go above and beyond for them - my little ones can vouch! It's not often you find such motivated teachers that go the extra mile. Not only are the teachers awesome, but also the various clubs (specifically the robotics club)! It gives my babies something to look forward to outside of the classroom. The administration is also very accommodating to all the needs that our family has. Please read!…read more When I went there, all I saw was a perfect example of a money-hungry school that seemed to prioritize its 50+ student jv team and varsity football program over its students in other different programs. It felt like the people who received the most benefits and special treatment were those related to teachers, counselors, or other staff members. Go Bulldogs, I guess. The school seemed more concerned with its public image than with the well-being of its own students. I've seen former students from other graduating classes make similar comments, so my experience doesn't appear to be unique. Maybe life isn't fair, and maybe I was just unlucky enough to attend during the same years as several counselors' and teachers' children. One student even had both of his parents as teachers at different points during his time there. There were multiple students with parents and staff,even one counselor and teacher both had two children attending the school. Looking back, it felt like there was one set of rules and opportunities for students connected to staff and another for everyone else.

I learned all about how to NOT make a gingerbread house. Fourth grade was a blur. Fifth grade was actually pretty cool. I had two teachers who came in on different days of the week. The one who taught science and math was obsessed with her son's then AP biology classes so we were dissecting frogs and reconstructing chicken skeletons (chickens were bought from Chinatown and boiled by the cafeteria to get all the meat off). The other teacher was all about reading and the arts so we read stories and drew on the walls. She gave me one of my favorite books, "My Side of the Mountain." My sixth grade teacher was obsessed with preparing us for junior high and wouldn't let us put our books in the slot under our desk. We had to pretend to walk up to the bookshelves and fake dialing a locker code to get our stuff. Wacky teachers. It was in sixth grade though that I decided I was going to be a writer. I won the LAUSD handmade books contest for my grade level that year. My story was about a princess named Pumpkinlina. My book was shaped like a pumpkin. How could it not win, I tell ya! My principal was obsessed with making sure we knew the importance of college. We took field trips to the local community colleges, state colleges and a private university (it was also in sixth grade where I decided which college to go to). If a student has shown she worked her butt off to walk the stage to culminate they should be able to walk the stage in stead they aren't and it's like a brushed off problem. So therefore I took my student out. I lost sleep and did the student to bring their grades up to walk that stage June 6th and for me to be told all the work the student turned it wouldn't bring them to a grade they needed. This school is not even worth it when some of the staff won't even work with kids. And to have my child say she's a disappointment when her school is and failed her! If you don't mind not having a safe school as they promote at the beginning of the year and higher ups not care if your student walks the stage at the end of 8th grade then take them there. Other than that I give this school ZERO STARS if I could.

No, that didn't happen. Instead, I got a razor, some feminine hygiene products and a jar of Nozeema in gym class. I curse gym class with their tiny short shorts and Nightingale at the time sent out to run around in the hills during P.E. rather than running around the track. I fell down the hill and still bear a scar to this day. My science teacher, Mr. Chapel, was pretty rad though. And I enjoyed playing video games in history class. All the teachers know every single student, and students respect and appreciate it. So far my son's doing very well. His teachers have done a wonderful job. We are very happy with how things are working out for him. The kids' education is very well complemented by other enrichment programs. Some of those being musical in nature. Yes, they do have music rehearsals (as a previous review pointed out). These are for the Xmas show (at Church) and two outdoors fundraising events (one in October and another in June). These are not just-for-fun activities. All schools have to do some kind of fundraising. These happen to have music involved. It's wonderful to see the kids sharing and enjoying themselves. It's beautiful to see them so involved in their school. If you're looking for a close knit, one-on-one option for your kid, I invite you to check STA out. There's a place for every kid out there.
