My friend and I ordered 2 appetizers. Mardi gras bread which was so yummy. And the artichoke dip. It was really delicious. I would definitely order this again. My entree was the meatball and pasta. I loved the flavors and it was seasoned to perfection my friend ordered the chicken PARMESAN. My friend said her food was flavorful and seasoned right. Our food came out fresh and very hot. Exactly how we like it. We had dessert it was the double chocolate cake. It was so moist and tasty we enjoyed our service. He was kind and sweet. We enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant. Was in town for business last month and thought I would grab Italian food for dinner that evening. That's one of my go-tos. Looked up Italian restaurants in Alexandria, and this one popped up with a few others. Bellinos seemed to get good reviews, so I thought I would give it a try. Would have been my first time there. Pulled it up in my gps, and drove over there and parked. It seemed to be open and saw people walking up to it. Then I saw a sign on the door. It was closed for either a private event or staff party. Either way, could not dine there that one evening I was in town. Got kinda disappointed and had to figure out a backup plan. I hope they are not usually closed for private events, or they won't end up with much business outside of that. Maybe when I'm back in town I'll try again. Maybe. Still not sure if it's any good, food or service wise. read more

This was our first time at Bellino's and definitely won't be our last. This was some of the most amazing Italian food I have ever had. The flavors explode in your mouth. Everything tasted homemade. The spaghetti sauce was a touch sweet (just in case you prefer a more savory sauce) and was delicious, as were the meatballs! The chicken in the chicken Alfredo was breaded and fried but WOW. It was the most delicious Alfredo I have tasted in years. It was homemade and out of this world. I was so full but wanted to continue to eat because it was SO delicious! This is a family owned and run restaurant, seating is limited but well worth the wait if you get there after 6. Because it is family run, please be patient because there are 4 of them working. Chris, the bartender, was so personable and made amazing drinks. We are in Alexandria once a month and we will definitely eat there when we are down! Next time I'm getting dessert! read more

It was a busy night. Service was attentive, but the house was packed. Another server on the floor was needed. The food was ok, but not great. The char grilled Bellinos oysters were cooked to death, leathery and covered with a rock-hard coating of cheese & breadcrumbs that was too salty to eat. I tried a couple and stopped. We were served bread with olive oil for dipping. Uh oh...the olive oil was rancid! I was told it had just been opened. But it was inedible. There was no other oil in the house, meaning that every dish cooked with it must have been a bad experience. This is a nice place and I'll be back, but it wasn't one of their better days. read more

This was my first time here and I've lived in the area for 29 years. I was aware that there would be a wait, especially on a busy Friday night, so we prepared for that and had drinks on the balcony. Four of us in my party. We had drinks and and hour later was seated. The waiter was excellent and knew every dish and wine and was just top notch. We had more drinks and ordered apps and entrees. Everything was delicious in my opinion. I will return to try more dishes. It is true about the wait but I don't like to be rushed for dinner anyways. Bellino's is located in the same strip mall as Mac's Groceries on Jackson Street. The restaurant is owned by local folks and attempts to come off as a "fancy" restaurant ... keep trying!!! The inside dining area is separated between a full bar and dining area. There are about 15 small tables (4 chairs) downstairs and upstairs (I think). The interior is romantic, soft music, dim lighting, the artwork on the wall looks like a middle school student painted it (seriously). The food mostly serves italian dishes (appetizers, pastas, salads, fetuccini, alfredo, cheesecake desserts), but the homecooked meals are average at best and just as expensive as Johnny Carino's most expensive pasta dishes. I ordered the crawfish fetuccini ($18.00), which was really good, but full of greasy liquid and cheese (almost like a thick liquid soup instead of a "pasta"...ridiculous). The dish filled me up pretty quickly. The bread that is served before the entre arrives was average and kinda hard actually. The waitress was nice, but seemed like she wasn't too thrilled to be working. This restaurant opens at 4:30 and close at 10:00, so it only serves dinner. However, there is a large cheesecake menu (Reeses, Snickers, Strawberry, Original, Turtle Cheesecakes, $8.50). Overall, I would not rush to eat here...I'd stick with Johnny Carino's or Copelands anyday!!! And YES I know those are chain restaurants...but I'm going to be 100% REAL on this site at all times!!! Went there last night for Valentine's Day and we will definitely be back!! The previous reviewer gave an accurate description of the atmosphere, although I'd have to disagree on comparing it to an ordinary chain restaurant. I'd go to this place over any chain, any day of the week! I've been looking for great restaurants since I moved here from Boston a year ago. This is definitely in my top 5! You can't make reservations but we were seated right away on Valentine's night! Our waitress was funny and attentive and knew a lot about the wines and menu. They have an extensive wine list as well as a full bar. We ordered the Mardi Gras bread as an app which is half an Italian loaf with a cheesy crawfish topping. I thought it was tasty but a bit salty. People really like their salt down here! I ordered the chicken parm which was great. My husband ordered the Oscar steak special which was out of this world!!! It topped any steak I've eaten in any major city and the lump crabmeat was the freshest I've ever tasted. It was simply AMAZING!! Very pricey special, though. Ask for prices!! We didn't have room for dessert, but they had a plethora of choices including cheesecakes and bananas foster. Overall, it was definitely a 4 star experience! Wow. Great, out of the way place for a great meal. Best steaks in central Louisiana too!! You'll pay for the beef, but it is a great treat. They have a ghost pepper sauce...that will blow your mind. Go there. Order the "Kestle Parm." It's off menu, handmade chicken Parm with ghost sauce, meat sauce and a side of angel hair. The ghost sauce isn't too hot, just right. Mix of homemade Alfredo and house tomato sauce...with the awesome addition of ghost pepper heat. It is ridiculous. Get some! read more

When you grow up in a small town (yes, Alexandria is a small town) with small businesses you tend to think highly of chains such as Carinos when you finally get them. Maybe that is why the people of Alexandria have given this place such negative reviews? Because as a person who has eaten at some of the finest restaurants in Houston I have to say that this was some of the best Italian food I've had in a LONG time!! I ordered the chicken piccata and it was delicious. Unlike most chains, the lemon sauce wasn't overly creamy and there were plenty of capers. The chicken was pan seared perfectly and had great flavor. The martinis were good and served in a rather large martini glass, but the price was similar to that at most chains that serve a smaller portion. We don't drink wine, but their wine list seems pretty extensive. The decor was decent. The tables and seating are rather generic and candlelit, but not uncomfortable. The art on the wall is rather modern, but if I want to view art then I go to a gallery and not a restaurant. The only negatives? The bread wasn't bad, but it should be brought before the customer orders. It's almost like they don't want to give people bread if they are just ordering drinks. Also, butter should be an option for bread along with some olive oil and herbs. The last negative was their banana foster dessert. It's a nice idea, but the banana bread is just too thick. They either need to cut their pieces of bread thinner so it soaks up more of the sauce or scrap the dish entirely. Also, they must be using a very cheap rum to flambe this because all I could taste in the sauce was brown sugar. Very disappointing. read more

Bellino's has a long list of Italian favorites. I've been to dinner at this place at least three times and the food does not disappoint. It is a small, dim restaurant with tables clustered together, but it's not too crowded, almost quaint. On my recent visit last week, the food was good. I love the tuna. My only issue is that the service was slow. This is usually not the case, so I'm not sure if the restaurant was short staffed or what. It was moderately full, but not too crowded to explain the lack of attention. Also, there was a very loud party and the acoustics of the restaurant really carried their voices throughout the seating area, which only took away from our dining experience. The food is good, but the service and ambiance may be hit or miss. I haven't found a better Italian restaurant for dinner in Alexandria, so I'll be sure to visit again. read more

Great Italian eatery. Food is fresh and rich in flavor. Apps, pastas, and desserts, are all good. They even have a tasty burger. However, it always takes awhile to get food here. As long as you anticipate a wait, and have nowhere you have to be, I recommend this restaurant. read more

My husband and I enjoyed Bellino's for our second wedding anniversary last night. The food was delicious and a large portion size as well as was quickly served. I had the alligator parmigiana while my husband had the Diablo. It is reasonably priced for the amount you receive. The atmosphere is cozy but still very nice. My only complaint, that is not really a complaint, is that I ordered a peach Bellini and it was extremely strong. It was drinkable, but the everclear was so overpowering that I barely managed. read more

Happened to me again.... Didn't go to Bellino's for years because they always had a way of making my husband and I feel like unwanted outsiders because we weren't one of their clique. Went to meet friends there tonight...... was just gonna grab a glass of wine and a to go order. everyone that they seemed to know they were super friendly with.... I mean literally everyone around us... got food. When I asked if my to go would be ready soon they said "no, I'm sorry, I didn't put the order in". An hour and a half later and my to go order wasn't even placed???? NEVER AGAIN. If they don't know you, you are screwed at this place. I can't believe an hour and a half there and left with no food. I picked up a Poboy from Robbie G's that I called in from Bellino's, picked it up on my way out of town.... Thank goodness Robbie G's actually makes the orders so I finally got dinner. Tried it once, will never go back or recommend to anyone. Service awful, long wait, then food sucked. Sauce has no substance or flavor, just sweet and waxy. Manicotti was cold and bland, chicken parm tasted like it was just defrosted and deep fried. Host with the little man bun was a total douche. Very disappointed in my experience at Bellino's restaurant. The food took two hours to get to our table, but that's not why I will never go back. A customer complaint quickly escalated to curse words and the man being roughly shoved out the door by staff while his wife watched helplessly. Bellinos is a great place to have a quiet dinner after work, or for a date night. My sister and I came in tonight and really love the atmosphere we were in work out attire and the group behind us had on work scrubs. It seems fancy until you look around and realize it's lots of casual people in a Fancy place. The prices are fair for the quality of food, the food is made fresh so please remember that meaning it's a wait for home made Italian expect a 30-45 minute wait in on the main dishes. Order salads and enjoy each other. This is a real traditional slow, enjoyable Italian dinner. We really enjoy it. Sometimes we go, order salads and get out main dishes to go. It's just depends. We enjoy each other and the ambiance. I don't think this is the best Italian food I've had, but for me this is better than the average chain restaurants we're use to. I think it's worth a visit and see if you like it. read more

While visiting Alexandria, LA on business, I was introduced to this restaurant by one of the locals. In the end, I was sorry I had ever heard of this place! For starters, we (there were three of us) waited nearly an hour to receive our order and the restaurant wasn't overly crowded. As a main entree, I ordered the crawfish fettucine. It was decent but way too rich and oily. I couldn't even finish the dish....not because it was so large, but because it was so heavy. For an appetizer, I ordered the garlic spinach cheese bread. Though I had no idea what to expect, I was hugely shocked and disappointed when the dish arrived to the table. It was toasted (nearly burnt) french bread with a pile of spinach (frozen not fresh) and a scant amount of melted cheese sitting on top of it. It was tasteless and nothing was blended together. It was basically an open-faced spinach sandwich! As a result, my friends and I left it sitting on the table nearly untouched. The waitress (who was the only positive thing with the entire experience) noticed that we had barely touched the dish and offered to have the bread removed from the bill. She went to discuss it with the Manager (who I later discovered was the owner's son). He tasted it, determined that it tasted fine to him, and decided that he wouldn't take it off the bill "because it's not like the bread is spoiled or anything." My co-worker went to discuss the decision with the Manager because he, like I, thought ...we have a $200 bill here....we didn't ask to have this $8 dish taken off the bill....what a ridiculous way to make a decision....and what about customer service? The Manager was irate that we questioned his decision and behaved as if he needed to save face so he looked at me, "We don't need your kind in here and we won't go out of business if you never come back." My co-worker was offended at the way the Manager directed his comments to me and told the Manager a few unkind words and stormed out. The Manager then looked at me again and said, "And you need to leave too!" I was left wondering what he meant by "my kind". Was it the female me? The African American me? The doctor me? The Christian me? The fact that I was black with two white professional dinner associates? So, I took a deep breathe, said a quick prayer and eased out of the restaurant. My co-workers (both of whom live in Alexandria and know the family) were convinced that it was because I was black and having dinner with white people. WOW! Though I have experienced racism a number of times throughout my life, because of my hopefulness, I was totally shocked and agast that it was that overt in 2013. My co-workers swore off the restaurant and said they will tell everybody they know in Alexandria to silently boycott it too. I will NEVER again visit this establishment and will file a complaint with the BBB too. read more

My wife and I ate there a few evenings ago for our first and last time. The atmosphere and decor were not bad, certainly unobjectionable. The problems began with our server. He was friendly and pleasant, but obviously new, and in need of much additional training. This guy was not in any way ready for prime time. The waiter failed to describe the specials to us (or even inform us that there were specials) - they sounded delicious when we overheard another server describing them to his table. We had a number of questions about the wine offerings that our server could not answer, and at no point did he offer to bring us a wine list. The bread that preceded our meal was cold, accompanied only by individually wrapped butter packets, and seemed to have been purchased from the supermarket bakery a few days prior. My wife ordered a salad that was never delivered. When our entrees arrived, my spaghetti with sausage was unobjectionable, but unremarkable. My wife's shrimp marsala was HORRIBLE! I would have sent it back, but my wife attempted to wade through it like a trooper. The dish was loaded with super-salty ham and bacon and had an overpowering "fishy" taste. Not a good sign for a shrimp dish. So, all in all, not an experience that will lead us to make a return visit. Too bad, as we had heard good things about Bellino's. read more
