Visited today. Very friendly place! My brother was a frequent patron to this establishment and it was nice to know he was remembered!

It's similar to Wienerschnitzel. A pork cutlet is cut and then smashed to make it larger and thinner, dipped in breading, sometimes cornmeal, panko, crushed saltines and deep-fried. It is usually served on a hamburger bun, garnished with any or all: tomatoes, lettuce, mayo, pickles, onions. Frequently accompanied by fries as a side. There's been a friendly competition among purveyors to lay claim to the title of "the largest," and certainly in Illinois the small town of Smitty's in Leonore, takes the title. Leonore is a booming locale south of Lasalle-Peru, 100 miles West of Chicago. Population 13o. I rolled down there on a Saturday, aiming to beat the lunch "crowd" so I called in my order (still, as of this date, curbside service only). Both I and the sandwich arrived at the same time, and like those who have gone before, I agree, this baby is YUGE. And delicious. Proper amount of breading, gently seasoned, good quality pork taste and texture. Excellent pickles and fresh cut onions. There are tables outdoor for diners to enjoy their BPT's or other items until the interior opens up again. Worth a drive. Iowa has an entire "Tenderloin Trail" you can try and conquer. Go on, go for it. You know you want to!

The fish meal included a salad bar and fries. I rarely see a salad bar offered ANYWHERE anymore; it wasn't much, but it was good. The fish and fries were decent... you have the option on walleye, cod, or a mix. The initial serving is 4 pieces of fish. I opted to do the mix (2 of each). Definitely liked the walleye best. The cod was decent, but also a bit more chewy that the walleye. The fish wasn't quite as flaky as I would have liked, so not sure if it was the quality of the filets or how they were cooked. Nonetheless, the meal was good and reasonably priced for an all-you-can-eat. It was a bit out of the way for us, so not sure I would make the longer trip for the fish, but it was definitely worth the try.

Leap into the Yelp-scape for something close but not a chain. Boom CortiLeno's pops up. 10" Pie for $12? We are all in. Walked in about 6pm Monday night quiet. Great bartender took order of one extra pepperoni sans cheese and one traditional pepperoni and cheese. "I'll be back in 20. Should I pay before I leave? No thats fine." Back 20 mins later a bit more crowded and pizzas ready to go. Ambience of space is not my vibe because I dislike the electronic gaming. Damn place has too many selections that are not really selections because everything tasted so good…read moreI had to stop tasting or I would have had to buy them out and my credit card only allows so much before it reports me to my wife. I do NOT like bourbon. Yet, somehow, tasting theirs made me decide that it is just some bourbons I don't like. And may I also add, that I do not like rum as a sipping drink, it only belongs in a coke as a teenager. Their rum (specifically the navy strength rum) holy cow, a perfect sipping "whiskey." NOW, I come to the liquors I like, nay love, as life itself. Scotch whiskey...... they don't make it..... ok then my other favorite nectar of the gods, TEQUILA.... Specifically repasado or anejo. In this case, theirs is called "rested tequila." It is sweet for tequila, but only for "unsweetened tequila" meaning no added BS or sugar (which surprisingly some big labels use.) it has a profile similar but BETTER and less sweet than Casamigos repasado. It is really VERY good, not astringent and deceptively smooth so that it could be dangerous, time will tell. This place is worth a 20-30 mile detour to check out their tasting room and cave like atmosphere. It is a shame we were not at this place 40 years ago when I could have lit up a cigar. Oh well.
