My wife and I stopped here for an early dinner on a sleepy summer Sunday. We wanted somewhere with outside dining, and there is a nice little off-the-road patio area that looked wonderful. Walking through the restaurant, it is a beautiful facility. I love places that have different levels and areas instead of one big open room for dining. Very impressive woodwork throughout. We sat down and ordered. Service was a little slow but I think they were understaffed. That happens, no big deal. Wife ordered a jalapeno tequila drink that was on the menu and she loved it. For dinner, we ordered a special appetizer (fried zucchini blossoms) and for dinner I had the lemon and garlic grilled half-chicken, my wife had beet spinach salad with pancetta. This is where things went south. The food was average, at best. The beet spinach salad with pancetta, the beets looked like they came from a can -- each slice was sliced perfectly and they were all the same sized. They had no flavoring, either. The dressing was sparse, at best, and the cheese that was supposed to be on top had zero flavor too. The pancetta was not pancetta, it was bacon. Pancetta is cured, as is bacon, but it is not smoked. One bite and it was clear that the meat had a smoky flavor. The "lemon garlic chicken" had no flavor. No lemon, no garlic. It tasted like it was baked and then finished on the grill. Actually, I am certain it was baked first, since most of the skin on the chicken had a rubbery texture. There was no lemon or garlic flavor to the chicken, either. A simple marinade before cooking would have given it some flavor. So the meat was amazingly plain flavored, and for $26 for a chicken dish, that's a big miss. Still, I ate it, because I am a food zamboni. However, my wife only ate about a third of the salad. She really did not like it at all. She mentioned it nicely to the waitress, since it is important to give this feedback to the kicthen. The waitress took away the salad after apologizing for it. Yet, when the bill arrived, the salad was still on the bill. If a person at a restaurant barely picks at something because they are dissatisfied with the quality, automatically it should be comped. No question. So, as far as a nice setting, this restaurant has it. But execution on the food? Not even close to being worth the money. read more

It was our first time eating here upon a recommendation and we were not disappointed. Our group of three shared an appetizer, one special and two regular entrees, and six drinks. Total for the night with tip was ~$200. Food was excellent, drinks are generous pours, and ambiance is great. Food: To start, we munched on the free focaccia bread served with dipping oil which looks more like Sicilian pizza cut into small squares. If you're like us, you'll want a second helping. We shared the appetizer special (white asparagus with smoked salmon in a lemon cream sauce). The entree special Tile fish, salmon, and crab cakes were all delicious and come with different sides. Portions are not large but are just enough in my opinion especially if you eat the bread and get an appetizer. Service: Bartender was friendly and knowledgeable. Service was quick but it was fairly busy. Table service was excellent. There were two other staff that monitored our table and they are really friendly, upbeat, and not obtrusive. Ambiance: This is actually a boutique hotel which I hadn't realized. It's set up like a large modernized Victorian house with several eating locations on several levels. We ate downstairs at a table for four near the second bar. I usually like a more secluded table but it didn't bother me to sit where we sat so all was good. There is actually a table seating area inside a box car near the upstairs bar with a view of the street and I might try sitting there next time. read more

While spending a beautiful day in skippack, we stopped into Bella Rossa, having never been before. Sadly, I don't think we will be returning any time soon. The moment you walk in you will notice the large entrance way and sophisticated ornamentation. This sets the scene for high hopes of delicious food. We were sat right away, and had our glasses of water brought out immediately. Next, we had our bread come out, which was pretty tasty. It was more of a pizza, which was very unique and enjoyable. Finally our waiter came over to greet us. His demeanor was very off putting, which made our experience a bit uncomfortable to start. For most of the meal we felt that we were being judged and closely watched for some reason I'm not aware of. So moving on, We decided to order the mussels appetizer and although the mussels were a bit undercooked, the sauce they came in was actually phenomenal. We asked for more bread to dip in the sauce, but it took so long to come out (even though the restaurant was not very busy) that we had to battle every employee in the building from taking our dish, before our waiter finally returned. Now that he was back, it was time to order our entrees. Honestly I forget what my boyfriend ordered (and a restaurants food should never be forgettable) but that is what I ended up eating because my entree was basically inedible. I had ordered the gnocchi which was house made and honestly, frozen gnocchi would have tasted better... that's coming from an Italian. It was basically a nugget of bitter potato dough. The sauce it came in had no flavor. I was so disappointed. What "Italian" restaurant can't make pasta? Or flavor it correctly? After trying to consume the gnocchi multiple times I gave up and asked for the check, which took way too long to come out. My boyfriend and I quickly paid and left very unsatisfied. read more

We come here all the time and normally love it. Service is always great and the food delish. Tonight we made reservations and when we arrived, they showed us to a table right next to the bus stand. Many other open tables, but when asked stated that they were reserved tables ...so I guess the order that you make your reservation makes a difference,not when you arrive. Thoroughly DISAPPOINTED with this experience. We frequent this place at least once a month. We refused the table and sat upstairs. A bonus we got our favorite server -- I would give the upstairs experience 5 Stars. They REALLY need to rethink their reservation policy and MAYBE move the bus station -- seriously disappointing. P.S. the hostess has BAD attitude and was rude. read more

We had the yellow fin tuna, New York strip, and scallop dinners. All three were excellent. Fresh and hand prepared. Five stars. Desserts were overpriced by at least four dollars per item. Double espresso cost $8.50. Probably twice what it was worth. Service was good. Recommend. read more

A girls night out every month and this used to be where we went every time. We loved this place! Unfortunately the last several times we have been back, the food was ok and the service was slow. Our waitresses each time would rather stand at the bar and talk with the bartender for 20 min rather than come take our order. We had made it through the meal and were still going to get dessert, until we waited again for a long period. There were only 2 other tables, the place was not full at all. By the time she stopped chatting we were just tired and decided against dessert. It's a shame as the ambiance there is wonderful. We have decided this happened too many times in the last several months we have come. No longer will we drop $200 on a meal for 3 with service like this. Had dinner on a Saturday night, and we had mixed feelings. Appetizer was good, and my husbands dinner was great. However, I ordered one of the seafood specials and it was some of the most foul shellfish I have ever tasted, definitely past it's prime. Also, I asked some basic question about the beer selection and because of the incorrect information our server gave me, I ended up with a beer I hated. Lots of potential, just disappointed. Probably won't go back given the ample amount of other dining options in Skippack that can deliver consistently. read more
