Everything on the menu seemed to be of good quality. Had the popcorn shrimp, hummus, calamari, chicken shawarma, and chicken linguini. It was pretty cold in the restaurant but it's also winter, servers were on task and competent. Restaurant is a little small, especially for larger parties. Truth be told, I honestly love going to this place. Sure, it's expensive, but it's the perfect getaway whenever I want to have a ribeye, have a couple creme brulee's or just one and have their calamari. So as Sweet Basil in Wichita permanently closed back in Spring 2019 due to it's decline and horrendous customer service back in 2015, some people who still loved this place were sad when they saw it leave. You love calamari strips, well, Bella Luna has it for you, in fact, the restaurant along with the west side one has some of the same entree's as Sweet Basil such as the ribeye steak and creme brulee. How's the inside? Amazing, it will remain you of a clubhouse except that it also has adults in it and the colors that this restaurant has are outstanding, you can even see writing on the wall. We'd never been for dinner. The food was good (the grilled chicken and steak were very good) but ugh the service. The restaurant was FREEZING. Patrons eating while in their heavy coats. Too many tables, very small and were so close together we were literally elbow to elbow with other tables and the lights bright. Ambiance is definitely better at lunch. We waited 45 minutes for our cocktails. After notifying the server that we were still waiting (twice) , she tells the manager and we waited another 20 minutes. They were not worth the wait. My husband's drink was supposed to be made with rum and was clearly bourbon. Food finally came, server had never cleared the appetizer dishes and had nowhere to sit our meals so we were forced to pick up all the dishes and hold them so she could serve. My husband's order was incorrect and the rest of us were finished before he got his meal. No one showed any empathy or concern or apology that our experience sucked. The server was doing her best but needs to be trained better in proper serving. Likely won't go back for dinner. read more

I received 2 completely different Caesar salads on both days. Not bad, just completely different. Obviously mixed by different people. Absolute worst service we've had at a restaurant that was likely not the waitstaff's fault. We have eaten here in the past, but the only items my wife enjoys has been the chicken lasagna and the Maggie salad. We had t been in some time because they had removed the chicken lasagna until recently, so we thought we go back for dinner. My wife ordered her chicken lasagna and Maggie salad while I ordered the stuffed pork chop. The salad came out before the entrees, which was to be expected. When the entrees arrived, the waitress set my meal down and chose that moment to tell us they were unable to prepare the chicken lasagna. I have NEVER seen such a misstep at even the lowest form of chain restaurants in my life. The waitress should have been informed the chicken lasagna wasn't available as soon as the ticket was sent to the kitchen. The kitchen should never have prepared the pork chop until the waitstaff verified my wife wanted something else or at least gave us the option to leave before ordering. The salad shouldn't have even been brought out until we had been informed my wife's selection wasn't available. To make up for this mistake we were offered a free desert. It does no good when you're a diabetic. To add insult to injury, they forgot to take the chicken lasagna off the bill. Needless to say it's our last trip to what has been a very good restaurant in the past. As for the pork chop, it had good flavor but was very over cooked and was a little tough. Have been to Bella Luna restaurants many times in the past, but was very disappointed this time for my first visit to the East location. Came in and was greeted by a very tall young man. He was very nice and seated the 3 of us. Good start The waitress came by and did not offer us any appetizers or cocktails. She ask us though what we would like to drink. We ordered a soda, water with no ice and lime, water with ice and lime. When she brought us our drinks both waters were with lemon and not lime. We did ask for limes and she brought a cup with 2 lime slices. She then proceeded to take our order, we order pasta carbonara with no mushrooms. She was polite and stated there was no way to take the mushrooms out, so opted to get it anyway. So instead of an Alfredo sauce that is described in the menu, they use the mushroom soup in place of the Alfredo sauce. We also ordered the Chicken Curry and Seafood Trio. Our food was out in less than 5 minutes which lead me to believe that it was all pre-made and just dished up onto a plate. We did see other waiters bring bread to table, but none was brought to ours. Food was delivered by other waiters and they did not know who got what! The pasta carbonara had so many mushrooms that my guest spent his entire meal picking them out. I added his mushrooms to my chicken curry. My chicken curry with the exception of the thinly slice yellow squash moon looked like it was pulsed through a Cuisinart. Everything was smaller than peas sized, including what chicken I found. The seafood trio had peas sized bay scallops, ,the shrimp had the tails left on. Spinach with woody stems left on it, could not really tell if there was crab or not. There was this thin opaque triangle, what we thought maybe fish, which we thought maybe uncooked fish, but couldn't tell. His food too was finely chopped to pea size except for the mussels and shrimp. The waitress did come by once close the end of the meal and while walking by not stopped to hear our answer, asked if everything was ok. The waitress was polite but not personable. Can I take your drink order Can I take your order Food delivered by other wait staff and did not know who had what While walking by and not stopping, asked is everything ok Came by and ask do you need a box and is this one check, we said to split Dropped the checks off. I called ahead and made a pickup order on my lunch break.. Picked up my order. The server that rang me out was very unpleasant for some reason. He seemed like he didn't wanna be there period. I left with my food. Started to eat my chicken schwarma and immediately noticed something seemed off about the taste of the chicken.. I had several more bites and I just knew something was off by the taste or smell of it. I didn't finish it because either was so turned off by the taste and smell. I literally thought to myself, "if I get sick tonight I will know why." (Spoiler alert I did get sick) I noticed they did not give me any silverware to eat the soup I ordered so I had to drive back to the restaurant. When I walked in, the server gave me a disgusted look like "why are you back here?" But just stared at me. Didn't ask what was wrong. I politely told him "I didn't receive silverware in my order." He looked at me. Didn't say a word. Turned around and walked off to grab some silverware and gave it to me. Still no words. Just seemed annoyed. ***Fast forward to later that day..Sure enough. Bella Luna Cafe is hands down my favorite place for Mediterranean food whenever I visit Wichita! I don't think I've had hummus anywhere else that's as good as theirs. I almost always add gyro meat to my hummus order and it's something I could eat everyday. The pita bread and chips that come with the hummus are amazing! When I had dinner here the other night they had a special for $4 martinis. Yes, $4 martinis!!! I had the Georgia Peach martini and I wish I could've ordered two, but I wanted to save some room for their tiramisu dessert without overloading on sugar. I love to see such dynamics, it really shows no job is too small for anyone. I have been here multiple times and the food is always great. The hummus is what keeps me coming back, a must-try or have with every meal. My friend & I were promptly seated and Bow our waiter was just amazing throughout our dinner. He somehow appeared whenever we needed him. The tables we found were way too small. There was hardly space for our water, wine, and hummus. We both had a serving of the Gumbo, which was brought out on one plate because we were not finished with the hummus but there was no space for the gumbo. The gumbo was thick but a tad bit salty. I walked into a wonderful aroma of spices and couldn't figure out what it was. After having my shrimp I realized that was it. The shrimp was garlicky, tender and delicious. I was disappointed in my medium-well steak. It was done well and rubbery. That peppercorn sauce though, its's fire!!! It went perfect with the roasted potatoes and asparagus. It's a fantastic location for dinner with friends and date night. The atmosphere is very relaxing and cozy. Passing through Wichita and wanted to try a local restaurant. We walked in at 6:30 and they were in the middle of the dinner rush but were able to sit our party of 2 immediately. The 7 cheese pasta was very yummy but the real show stopper was the Bella Maggi salad. The romaine was crunchy and fresh. The Parmesan was perfectly shaved on top and the grilled shrimp was tasty. I wish for the $4.45 charge for the shrimp, there would have been a few more then 3 small ones. Overall - great experience and service read more

My daughter and I met there for lunch on 1 February. Food was fine but so FRUSTRATED with the fact that they ran my credit card TWO TIMES--once before tip and then again after tip. My credit card company cannot get them to respond over the last month. I phoned the bookkeeper and she said that they did not run my card two times. However, american express confirms that they did run my credit card twice. SO FRUSTRATING! Be careful or you will end up paying a lot more money for a meal here! BAD CUSTOMER SEVICE! I'm done with the Yelping part of my life but the reviews live on, so during a recent trip to Bella Luna My sister in law took offense at my review from October 2010 and said I should write a new one. The large number of Lebanese restaurants in Wichita's dining scene all started with Antoine Toubia who moved to Wichita in the 70s from Beirut and opened his classic restaurant: Olive Tree. He introduced the city to Lebanese food, built a restaurant empire for his family, and supported dozens of other Lebanese immigrants that wanted to learn to cook and start restaurants of their own. Matteo Taha was one of them. He immigrated to Wichita to work as the head chef at the Olive Tree in the 90s and in 2002 he started his own restaurant, Bella Luna. One of the complaints from my Yelp review was the unfocused menu, which has some Lebanese items but also plenty of American and French-ish items like barramundi menuire, chicken au poivre, and tilapia almondine. This is not a characteristic unique to Bella Luna: some of Wichita's older Lebanese restaurants (Cafe Bel Ami, Larkspur, Le Monde) incorporate French dishes because Toubia was French trained and in the 70's it was easier to get people to try the Lebanese food when they thought they were going to a "Mediterranean" restaurant, similar to how some older Thai or Vietnamese restaurants also have Chinese food on the menu to appeal to those unfamiliar with the cuisine. In today's dining scene there's not as much need to provide diners with safe menu options, but in a city with plenty of dedicated Lebanese restaurants the wider menu might appeal to those who might be in the mood for hummus but not in the mood for shawarma. Thirty years and a couple of additional locations later, Bella Luna is still a favorite for Wichitans, willing to defend it against posers hiding behind a keyboard. read more

Had a very unfortunate visit to BL on a Saturday night. First time we've had a bad meal from them, they did it well this night. Ordered a chicken kabob with the orzo and vegetables, what I got was gross and inedible. The kabob was beyond overdone, like fake meat looking. Never got the vegetables but I need to getting some brown pile of potato something I didn't order and the orzo was a grease pile. It was all greasy and no flavor. See pic for reference. Bella Luna is one of my favorite restaurants in Wichita. They have a wide variety of foods and everything I've tried has been yummy. My favorite is the seafood trio! The sauce is so delicious. It comes with mussels, scallops, shrimp, and crab. I'm always craving it! The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice for dates and special occasions. The service is always friendly and quick. The restaurant was really clean, and wasn't busy when we got there so we were seated immediately. The positive notes were All the employees were super friendly, the hummus was good, and so was the tomato soup, so I gave them 3 stars. Unfortunately the rest of the food wasn't good. Great late lunch stop! The gyro was wonderful. The spinach artichoke dip was huge and had I known the other end of the table also ordered one...would have passed. One plate would have been plenty for the 5 of us. I also had the lentil soup - it was supposed to be a cup but came in a bowl. Although the flavor was very good - I've never had pasta in this type of soup before - didn't like that part. But the lemon/lentil flavor is what I was looking for and it delivered.
