The park is off Tamiami Trail / U.S. 41. Williams Park is nearby as well as the Manatee Viewing Center. Nice park across from the Mosaic Plant on the inland side of 41. The park is open with lush (highish) grass a couole picnic tables and some rocky mangrovey shoreline with a couple open spots on the Alafia River. Very pretty. Good place to play fetch. The Apollo Beach Dogpark, E.G. Simmon ($2) and Apollo Beach Preserve (when it reopens) are also good area spots. There is an eatery on the water on the other side of the river off Ohio Ave (take a left going south on 41 on Pennsylvania Ave., left on Massachusetts and lef on Ohio. It's called the River's edge and is very casual for wings, oysters, fried clams, grouper sammiches, peel n eat shrimp and deviled crab. BLTs too.

Was here last week. Totally forgot to catalog my first Catfish! It's crazy how many years i cone…read morehere n never catch one. Always come home with like bluegills n a random tilapia. You can see the catfish all over the lake just swimming by your bait n just testing you lol there's a crap ton of them near the pier but you gotta be careful cuz there's tons of alligators there to. I pulled out a nice size Catfish n then lost my second one to a damn alligator! Im happy the line broke cuz if i had lost my Shakespeare rod to i would've been more pissed! I got lucky n the couple nearby gave their bluegills. Went home happy with 1 catfish n 4 bluegills. Shared tips n bait store locations with a family camping there to. I wish the park entrance dude sold worms. It would be extra money for the park. I kept the catfish for a couple days in my aquarium, but he wouldn't take to it. I fillet his ass with the other fish. Doing fish tacos later. I used night crawlers from bass pro n sprayed them with-garlic sent to amplify the smell. I will try my homemade punch bait next tome. I found something tasty for them. Oh yeah, i caught some ghost shrimps in a cup but let them go. They look like glass at first then they moved around nicely. They are at grass edge, i do not recommend you get close to the edge!! Use a fishing rod n tie a water bottle or cup at the end with bait in it. I use catfish punch. Please don't let your pets get near the edge either. Gattor follow u when you are near water. Keep track of your kids!

This is a lovely park at the end of Bayshore drive. There is a small splash pad that can entertain…read morebabies and older kids with benches surrounding the splash zone. The splash pad doesn't have a lot of shade in the summer, so be mindful of that if you're planning on sitting and watching your kids. The playground is large and has some shade covering over it. The bathrooms are close to the park area. The pavilions are available to rent for parties. Parking can be tricky because the lot is small compared to the amount of people who come here, but there's a smaller lot on the other side of the playground and there is street parking. The pier seems to be under construction after the hurricanes, but usually you can spot some dolphins from there.

Ballast Point Park is located South of Bayshore off inter bay and has a fantastic shaded kids…read moreplayground with a younger and older kids area, 3 slides, and even a splash pad play area. There's a fantastic seafood restaurant, fishing pier, and pretty water views too! During the winter months when the sun sets early at 530-6, the park really should have lights for the playground at least until 8pm. There's not enough parking spots for this park and parking on side of road has signs that say no parking which is ridiculous because everyone parks on the side of the road anyways. If you're in the south Tampa area and looking for pretty water views, casual seafood, or a fun kids playground, definitely visit Ballast Point Park!

She keyed us in on the best times to come in for kayaking, wildlife viewing, swimming, etc. I did not really find the swimming all that enjoyable but that is mainly because of the "Wetlands" feel and all the grass growth in and around the swimming area; but for the pelicans, crabs, pipers, and other creatures we did see (Manatees I WILL see you next time!!!) it is apparent why this growth is so important. It's paved the whole way and has a pond running most of the length of it. There are plenty of places to sit if you get tired or watch the birds. Now is it peaceful? Hmm...as many others have mentioned, it's close to a very busy road and all the roads that intersect are also very busy. Even with headphones on, it's still pretty loud. You also have to cross one of the busy streets near the parking area and you really have to be cautious because there is no stoplight and only one of the three directions has a stop sign so two of the streets don't have to yield and may not see you crossing. The parking is also odd. There is a small paved area that stops at the dead-end down by TD Bank and you can park on the shoulders and grass on both sides of the street leading to the dead end. If you don't like parking in the grass you should probably get here during non-peak times as the parking fills up quickly. Honestly, I'd rather walk off-trail in the grass like on a hiking trail as it's not as harsh on my feet but if you're just looking for a short trail to do some running or walk in the evening, then this might be the spot for you.

Great place to spend and afternoon at the beach! There is a great playground right next to the…read morebeach and some great spots on each side to go fishing. There are 3-4 large pavilions on the beach, along with grills. There are a couple of volleyball courts as well. Showers and restrooms are located near the entrance/exit of the parking lot. A word of caution - there are some sharks in the waters, so you don't want to venture out past the no swimming signs that are clearly posted in the water. Two downsides to this location - there are no waves (I know that's no ones fault!) and the sand/beach area isn't maintained by a staff, so there is grass growing very close to the beach. One could argue that you get that "natural" beach feeling, so to each their own.

We had a small dog with us at our campsite, and he briefly walked over to the campsite next to us. A staff member approached us and told us that if our dog was not kept on a leash, he would ask us to leave. We understand the rule and had no issue complying with it, but the way he spoke to us was unnecessarily rude and disrespectful. I am an IR nurse, and I always treat my patients with compassion and respect. Imagine if this staff member arrived at the IR department in pain or with an injury and was treated with the same level of rudeness. Everyone deserves to be treated with kindness, dignity, and respect.
