Ceilings so low even I had to duck a couple times around the many old wood beams and brick arches all over the place. Very small but intimate, warm place with lots of little nooks and cool little places to cuddle up with your special one and a few great pints. Live music was excellent, and it definitely filled the place, making it actually a bit too hot for my comfort, but that's how the English do it. Seating outdoors as well for the smokers. Small bar food menu, but also an upper restaurant part as well with full menu of your usual British food. So glad we stumbled upon this place, somewhat hidden from the main road, and will always be a place we visit when in town.

We were late (don't trust your SatNav system to find it) so missed the tractor ride down but they promptly collected us in the car park. Started with an apple brandy aperitif and that let us know it would be a great night. I am not a big brandy fan but this was great (ended up buying two bottles), easy to drink and refreshing. Followed by two canapés. We were then given some time to walk the premises. I particularly liked the garden, where they grow different veg and herbs. And the views are beautiful Seated for dinner and two more canapés. Also had a chance to order from the bar. As I was driving, had to pass on most of the options but still wanted to try something so went with their local Cranberry drink. I am not usually a fan of fizzy soft drinks but ended up drinking two of these, it was very tasty and refreshing. First proper course was a fattoush salad, with goat cheese, tomato, cucumber and herbs. Very flavorful, it almost came to life with the herbs. Second course was a smoked hake and mashed potato dish. Very interesting, like the way the hake came through. Main course was pork loin from the farm and it was incredible. Smoked flavor but not too smokey, very tender. Accompanied by multiple vegetables. Finally, had a meringue with various fruits and sauces for dessert. Great, much better than I expected. Normally meringue is too sweet but with all the ingredients this one was complex and tasty. With coffee, they also gave us honeycomb (tasted a little burnt to me) and and a sweet made out of beetroot (very interesting). My wife can't stop raving about the experience, as she is a fan of the show and it was an experience. I can't stop raving about the food, every course was so vibrant and complex. You have to go, make a weekend out of it.

We thought we'd treat my parents to a lunch as we were staying in the area and everyone was pretty excited that we were actually going to a 'famous restaurant' for lunch. The place is lovely, decor is fantastic, the shelves are full of local (if a little over priced) produce and it took us a while to see that there was actually a big warehouse-style room out back. When we walked in, nobody was there to acknowledge us and had no idea who to talk to or where to go if we wanted a table. After milling around for a bit I just walked straight through past the kitchen and out back and called over a waitress to ask how this worked...she just sat us down. It smelled good, is a great open space...and, uh, where is the waitress? She was quite incompetent throughout unfortunately, she stayed professionally disingenuous and uninterested in anything we had to say. She forgot we had asked for a high-chair, she forgot one of our drinks, she took forever to take our order and the place wasn't even half full. The food was decent, not as amazing as I'd hoped it would be but good nonetheless. The service here really did let down the whole experience, we even had to wipe clean the high chair ourselves (when it finally arrived at the second time of asking) as it was covered in left-overs from the previous nipper. In short, I am glad I can tick this one off as 'done'. I will not be making an effort to come back to the restaurant, but I will most definitely come back for some of that local cheddar from the deli counter out front, that stuff was?is amazing!

This has got to be one of the oldest pubs in South Wales, it's medieval and dates from 1380. I havn't eaten here, but there is also a well respected restaurant upstairs offering a good selection of seafood dishes. Dishes include: Brixham Crab Cake with baby leaves and lemon butter sauce (£5.25); Plaice Goujons with paprika and a sweet red pepper tartar sauce (£4.95); Roasted Fillet of Hake with a chorizo and roasted red pepper risotto ith tomato, garlic and orange sauce for £13.95 For the vegetarians on the day I visited there was: Tomato Fondue, Wild Mushroom and Aubergine Bake, finished with garlic crumb and poached egg (£4.95) and Rosemary and Truffle Arancini Risotto with a tomato, red onion and spring onion salsa ( £4.95). It was a huge plate of food that was difficult to finish, but the combination of sweet and spicy was somewhat addictive and kept me digging right back in for another bite. The duck offers a wide selection of desserts (which were hard to pass up)...I wanted something light so I had a single scoop of local ice cream to cleanse my palate. Service was a confusing at first, but was just swell once we were seated...the leftside is a side is a traditional sit down restaurant service, the right side is a classic pub style where you order everything at the bar, and the expansive outside patio is self service as well, a completely taken over by smokers and vapers like every other European patio. £20 FISH & CHIPS! The fresh beer battered haddock was thick and crispy on the outside, and moist and tender on the inside, perfection!, The chips were pleasant enough, though crushed minted peas were just okay...maybe because they day prior I had some incredible mushy mint peas at another pub. Still a great plate overall! £20 SHORTCRUST PIES...wife went with the Chicken, Leek, and Herb...wonderfully rich and savory, with flavorful scent and warm, buttery pie crust. Lovely! Everything seems so easy, apart from choosing from a great menu. We had a Sunday roast beef, grilled cod and chips and risotto all of which were spot on, warm plates, perfect juicy cuts, tender and crispy in all the right places. All rounded off with homemade ice creams. The place seemed fairly new when I was here a couple of years ago but now seems settled into it's niche by the old mill and doing very nicely thank you. Everything you could possibly ask for in a traditional village pub . a charming olde-worlde…read morebuilding with a thatched roof situated smack bang in the middle of the village square, like an island. this really is a charming place with large log fire, no music or fruit machines and definately no sky sports. the food is exquisite and the booking diary reflects that. there are 3 dining rooms and tables in the bar also. 1 of the dining rooms also has a glass topped well in the floor. food is available all day every day from 11 am until 9 pm and the menu ranges from homemade soup, right up to fillet steak. there is a good vegetarian selection, as well as fresh devon fish. all food is freshly prepared and cooked, so if you are after 'fast' food this is'nt the place for you. the bar is very well stocked and 3 real ales are available. the staff are lovely, and the food and beer are perfect.
