It was a pleasant surprise to be able to still shop at a local department store. It was clean, brights and large selection of clothing. May not always have what your are looking for but it was refreshing to shop here and not Walmart or online. Prices are comparable with everything else in the world. Overall, I would return to shop. I am a first time customer with Belk's department stores and was hoping to do, what I would've thought, a very simply exchange. In my attempt to reach out via their chat I spoke to 3 different chatters and their responses were all the same and VERY generic. I know this because I am a chatter for a very larger E-Commerce company myself and have been working in customer service for the last 20+ years. So to say that I was appalled by the approach of these reps is a gross understatement. I asked them that as a first time customer since they did not offer exchanges, which right off the bat seems ridiculous to me, if they can waive my return shipping and email me a free, printable return label and I would re-purchase the item in the correct size. Not only was I disconnected, thrice times, on the chat platform, after being advised that exchanges were not a possibility and that I would have to return to a store which none are even in my state, I have even yet to hear back from a supervisor which I asked to be connected to which also never happened in any of those chats. So, now I have here $75 shoes, that do not fit and cannot be exchanged thus far. So at this point I will end up having to return this at my own expense and not have the product I was hoping to get. This one and only experience with this department store has really ruined ever shopping here for me again in the future. This is why stores like Amazon are flourishing. It is very sad that these customer service reps do not realize how just a little curve in their incredibly strict policies can go a VERY long way with creating repeat and possibly lifelong customers. I would've started shopping Belk's more often since their selection is lovely but due to the inexperience of good customer service, I will NOT shop here again. read more

Very disappointed with the removal of name brands. I have to travel to another town to get these. But the lack of service is my problem. I was in the Albemarle store on 4/22/18 and while shopping for my mother, I was really upset at the clerk named Kelly. When I walked up, she was FaceTime someone. She allowed it to continue while checking me out. Not only was this unprofessional, but this day in time, I find it a security risk. I've been shopping here for 20 years now. I tried to exchange a shirt I had bought the previous week for a different size and the sales lady in the men's department asked in a very hateful tone, "well has it been worn?". My son had tried it on but had NOT worn it. The price tag was still attached. Then she said the item wasn't on the receipt and she told me I must have given her the wrong receipt when I most definitely had not. Work on your customer service skills or find another line of work! read more
