Just one word - amazing. I can't think of anything more unique than a magic show in a parlour setting in a walk-up in Hell's Kitchen. Wonderful show, and Belinda herself is a lovely person. Due to a miscommunication that was no fault of hers, I didn't find out that the show I'd bought tickets for had been canceled. Belinda was very diligent about making sure I got a rescheduled date & gave me a second ticket even though I'd originally only bought one. I brought a friend who also really enjoyed himself. Belinda knows a ton about the history of magic and her library is something else, too. It was really cool to see the way she wove her knowledge in with traditional sleight-of-hand magic tricks. My daughter and I spent the evening entranced, in the true sense of the word! Belinda's amazing magical chops are only matched by her clear concern for everyone's comfort and fun. Belinda shares her encyclopedic knowledge of magical history and particularly the role women have played, all the while making it hard to really think too much about it because you are so blown away by the "OMG, how did she do that??!!" factor. The intimacy of the performance in this "conjuring place" (8 people attend at a time) makes it as "up close and personal" as possible -- the diametric opposite of Criss Angel and David Blaine and David Copperfield. No disrespect whatsoever to them intended, simply that this chance to see and feel the magic up close means so much. There were just a few of us, sitting in Belinda's living room, and for 2 hours, we sat there spellbound by her magic, as well as her stories and her charm. This was such a wonderful, intimate show. We were in NYC for a week, and saw a much more famous magic show, and it was such a letdown compared to this. If you are at all a fan of magic, this is one of the best shows I have seen. Wonderful up-close magic and mystery show by a dedicated lifelong student and adept of magic. Very intimate and personal -- there were eight of us in her parlor. My 14-year-old son, who is too blase to show interest in anything but computer games, afterwords admitted (twice) that "that was pretty cool." Card tricks, sleight of hand, classic spiritualism, and mentalism (I won't spoil the surprise by giving details, but she startled me -- and my son -- with what seemed like true mind reading). Highly recommended, especially if you're looking for a very personal and engaging experience -- the opposite of something like Blue Man Group, which is all loud noise and flash. My wife and I were on vacation in NYC for a few days and had heard some great things about Belinda's performance...so we grabbed a couple of tickets online before the trip. Let's start with this ...easy to find... which goes a long way in the city. :) We were the first ones to arrive and Belinda's met us with a Big Smile and a warm greeting. While we waited for the others to arrive she gave us a quick tour of her partial collection of Magic ephemera she had there onsite...which spanned decades. Then... the other folks arrived to begin the journey of being entertained for almost THREE hours! It was fantastic. My wife and I are fans of the Magical Arts and have been to countless performances of many kinds over the years...from close-up at the Magic Castle to Night Clubs and stage performances and Belinda is as good as we have seen and is better than most. It's not just one "trick" or "effect" after another...there's a theme throughout, a cadence and a thoughtfulness on how the afternoon unfolds and the stories within the stories she tells as she gets to know her audience throughout the course of the show. We have seen Copperfield, Chris Angel, and Blaine several times on stage...and they are terrific..but that's Stage Magic....it cannot compete with the intimate setting with just a handful of spectators..I think the max occupancy she has for a performance is about 10....and that is hard to beat. It does not take long for you to find out that she practices her craft with a high level of skill in a carefully curated presentation of cards, coins and mentalist effects. Belinda is a marvelous story-teller and one of the top sleight of hand artists in the world: put those together and you have an unforgettable, immersive experience of dazzling skill, artistry, and emotional connection. I've been to many magic shows in my day, but this one was different, and in the best of ways. Merely arriving at the venue made me feel different about what I was about to see. After walking up the stairs of an old apartment building in the historic Hell's Kitchen neighborhood, I found myself in an intimate parlor setting so warm and inviting that literally within minutes I forgot I was at a "show" and instead felt like I was sitting in a friend's living room, having cookies. By the end of our three hours together, a roomful of strangers had become old friends. That was a powerful trick in itself, a testimony to Belinda's talent for connecting with people, and connecting them to one another--a gift that rivals Belinda's world-class talent for manipulating cards and making magic happen. Belinda is an unusually kind, warm person--and frequently hilarious (I hadn't expected to laugh so much!). I've noticed that male magicians often seem to condescend to their audiences; by contrast, Belinda treated us all with utmost compassion and respect throughout her performance, putting us all at our ease. As a result, the magic unfolded spontaneously and organically, without feeling forced. We were somehow all in this thing together. Belinda who wants to make you love magic as much as she does--and believe me, you will. And what magic! I don't want to give anything away, but suffice it to say that the effects blew all of us will away. Calling this a "superior entertainment" would be an understatement: it's an incredible experience, not to be missed. (My one regret is that I didn't bring a friend with me. I visited the Conjuring Room on New Year's Eve and what a wonderful event to start the celebration of the new year. Truth be told, I've known Belinda for years thru several unrelated sets of friends, and have seen her do a few card tricks at parties, but this show she's created is a really special thing. Belinda is not only a awesomely skilled magicienne, but a gifted story teller and full-on compelling performer. I kept thinking as I was sitting there with my wand (she hands out these really cool magic wands that light up and make magic noises for approval!) this is what my experience of New York theater used to be like in the early 90's when I first moved here... I would hear about a theatrical show-"thing"- happening in some little hole in the wall, and would get a ticket on a whim or on someone's recommendation and get buzzed into an unassuming dark building which often turned out to be a kind of portal--a link to some mysterious oasis I'd never experienced before...where just a handful or two of people would convene and witness a performance that both affirmed and challenged their perceptions. This is what Belinda does. The show is completely immersive, it takes you away to another time (and the cookies and tea were pretty awesome too). I see a lot of performance, from Broadway to basement theater stuff, music, dance etc., and I know the mark of a powerful show is when the audience doesn't want to leave afterwards--they want it to go on or at least to connect with each other just a bit longer and preserve the feeling in the room, and in their hearts...that is the kind of experience I had at the Conjuring Room, so generously and magically preformed by Belinda Sinclair. read more
