I wanted to reach out and say that I am not a local resident here in Jacksonville, North Carolina…read more I reside in California and when I was going through my business here in Jacksonville, North Carolina and dealing with what I was dealing with with court cases things about that nature, I will definitely say the Ansel County sheriffs department as well as the Jacksonville Police Department have in fact, been very professional and very attentive to any of the cases that were presented as well as any complaints or concerns that I have had in the past and in current events. This is strictly for the police department. I understand that they don't have a yelp review page or anything like that. Totally understandable, but I just wanted to reach out and give the upmost valid comment on the departments at hand. When utilizing the courthouse and the courthouse system, they have been very polite, very respectful and on their regulations for ensuring safety and fairness for all people that go in and out of the court house.

Questions galore cause upon returning I want to know what they allow my to build both for my home to my business. From the reception girl to planning these folks are top notch. If any of you want to know anything about what to build to restrictions to anything don't hesitate to ask. My main question was can I build my retirement home with a chimney wood burning fireplace. YES YES YES....i am so happy this was the answer. Thank you everyone. Can't wait to finally go home in 2025.

Edward B. Dudley Historical Marker - Edward B. Dudley Historical Marker, Jacksonville

Edward B. Dudley Historical Marker

This marker is located along the busy Marine Blvd that runs through Jacksonville. There is not much…read moreroom to stop to read the marker but I figured it out. The marker reads, "Edward B. Dudley, 1789-1855. Governor, 1836-41, the first in North Carolina elected by popular vote, first president of Wilmington and Weldon Railroad. Birthplace was 2 miles west." Online, there is more information. "In 1811 Dudley was elected to the first of two terms in the state House and in 1814 he returned as a state senator. During the War of 1812, he served as colonel of the Onslow militia that was sent to protect Wilmington against a threatened invasion. Shortly after the war Dudley moved to Wilmington and quickly rose to political prominence. He was elected as a borough representative to the legislature in 1816, 1817, and again in 1834 and 1835. Since one political party dominated North Carolina politics between 1815 and 1832, Dudley was designated a Republican, but he disagreed with national leadership. Elected to fill the seat in Congress vacated by the death of Gabriel Holmes in 1829, he found his views incompatible with those of President Andrew Jackson and his followers. Dismayed by the tactics of the president and the compromising nature of the Congress, Dudley refused to run for a second term." "Dudley's return home coincided with a groundswell in the movement to awaken North Carolina from its "Rip Van Winkle" slumber. He assumed a pivotal role in the formation of the Whig party that challenged the Democratic leadership by supporting constitutional reform, stronger banks, railroad construction and other internal improvements, and education. In 1836 he hosted in his Wilmington home the committee that organized the Wilmington and Raleigh Railroad." "Dudley's administration initiated a period of progress. Perhaps most significant were internal improvements with the completion of the Wilmington and Raleigh and the Raleigh and Gaston railroads, and education with the beginnings of the public school system and the openings of three colleges... After his tenure as the governor, Dudley returned to his position as president of the Wilmington and Raleigh Railroad. He retired to his home on the Cape Fear River where he died on October 30, 1855. He was buried in Oakdale Cemetery in Wilmington." [Review 18887 overall - 3372 in North Carolina - 2410 of 2022.]

Went here for the first time to see one of my favorite bands: The Plot in You…read more If I could give this venue zero stars I would. When we arrived at 8pm (an hr after the show started) there was already a line snaking around the building, and an employee of the venue told us there were already hundreds of people inside (venue definitely broke their fire code, we looked it up). The line moved extremely slow - the employees weren't scanning tix but instead reading off of a paper list, also the venue was already so packed there was literally no room for any new patrons to stand. We were actually in line so long we missed the first two bands playing that night, and half of the set of the third band - and we were offered no refunds on our tickets. I saw a few people leaving angrily in the parking lot for the same reason.. My rum and coke I ordered at the bar was over $20 (and it was house rum)... We eventually pushed our way to get through the doorway of the space where the bands were playing just enough to be out of the way of people coming and going from the room. We felt so claustrophobic and the space felt very unsafe due to the place being way over capacity. It was very very hot inside which was expected but not to the extent of over 100 degrees, but I wasnt prepared for the people around me's sweat to fall/drip on me - again, packed like sardines: otherwise that wouldn't have been happening. Oh, and forget about being able to go back out to the bar to get another over priced drink. There was no staff to help patrons in and out of the space. I will say the bartender that gave me my $20 rum and coke was pleasant. This will be the first and last time we go to this venue. Shame on management for over selling and overall putting a lot of people in an unsafe space

I read a lot of negative reviews about Hooligans and was very reserved in going to the venue…read moreHOWEVER, we went to the Hinder show last night Oct 26,2021 and the place was fantastic! Of course its not a massive amphitheater or huge concert hall its a small one that is perfect for who and what they deliver as far as expectations for said establishment. 1) Entry and security Long line for a show - that is normal and the line was average for the size of the place, no issue with that at all for it moved quickly. Security was professional and conducted themselves as such! They were thorough and that is there job! Good on them! 2) Appearance and accessibility Was definitely not a Ritz-Carlton but guess what!?! It was what you should expect for a small business in Jacksonville NC! I loved how you had an area out front in order to escape the noise and have a conversation. The bathrooms were the appropriate size and I had no issues with them at all. I saw a man in a wheel chair inside and the place is more than in compliance for access for folks who may need it. 3) Service and Internal Security Service was amazing! We had the pleasure of being served by two female bartenders in the music hall and they were fast, accurate, and very polite considering the volume! We sat in the VIP section and had a bartender come by and check on us every few minutes! It was fantastic! Prices are not bad at all for a club! Of course you get plastic cups because lets be real folks - glass would be everywhere if they tried to serve in said containers. Security was great! One guy looked like he hated life but the others were professional and courteous. Overall I would recommend this place for a good show and a good time! Its Rock and Roll people! Deal with it! Rock on Hooligans!!!
