Came here with the fam jam on the spur of the moment in the middle of a doughnut hunt. We went around noon and the restaurant was packed. Service was quick - we ordered dim sum items and they were all brought to us fresh as opposed to waiting for carts to come around. We found the quality average. Not gonna like, Jumbo Dim Sum on 170th street is our favourite but we would come here again if in the area and craving Dim Sum but I wouldn't go out of my way to return here.

Beijing Beijing really hit the spot for us for dimsum. They were having a promo (15% off take out orders), so it defs swayed us to order from them. Our order was prepared promptly & nothing was missing from our order. The food tasted good!

Best dim sum in yeg. My go to place for dim sum. Clientele proves it bc its 95% asian. Happy theres no forks here. Automatically provides hot sauce upon seating. True asian dining in edmonton. Authentic. Get the radish cakes and the donut thing wrapped in steamed thingy. Best here, better than in van, richmond or montreal. I eat out every day. I know. I search for authentic asian eats. Go here. Nuff said

Always on point. Thank you for a delicious, fresh assortment of delicacies. One of the best!

This place was extremely busy when I got there for a Friday afternoon at 1pm. Despite standing by their bilingual sign that said please wait to be seated it took five minutes before we were greeted. We were asked for how many and our name. No estimation of time was provided but we were seated about ten minutes later. We ordered ten different dishes and it was extremely easy to order as their menu includes Chinese, English and a picture of what you are getting. They also had a traditional menu to order from. The waitresses were friendly and they accepted both debit and visa. Parking is plentiful, food is tasty and authentic. Prices are fair so for stars for service and overall experience!

This place has pretty good dim sum. I am surprised. Its not comparable to Vancouver but its pretty good. We got a number of things but my favorite is the egg tarts. Everything is made fresh. They do push cart and you can also order from the staff as well. I am also surprised that they have Pu'Er tea with chrysanthemum (I didn't expect they will have this since they are in Edmonton). The place is super busy so be prepared to wait. Lots of parking in front because it is located in a mall.

A great spot for dim sum anytime of the year. The food is nice and fresh and there are tons of different things to try. I recommend getting here a little early (especially on weekends) as it is usually packed full by 11:00-11:30 on the weekend. No cart service right now due to COVID but I'm sure that will be back in the future.

I've been here multiple times throughout the years for dim sum, meal dining for large groups and once for banquet dining (Chinese wedding). I mostly go for the dim sum. They've recently undergone renovations, but it only looks like the changes were to the facade & lighting (which look great now by the way). They also have live seafood in their aquarium tanks. High chairs and booster seats are available, but if you have a short kid, the high chair might not be tall enough to dine at the table...my 18 month old struggled with that. It's still pretty crowded inside & if you are coming for dim sum for lunch, come early because the wait can be up to half an hour. Service is no-nonsense kinda deal... if you want something, flag someone & ask because no one's coming to do a quality check on you, plus they're happy to help. Dim sum prices range from $4.75 and up. Carts are always passing by, and dim sum is usually fresh & hot.

If you ever want a Chinese buffet fix. This is the place to go for some of the most delicious chinese dishes. I have chinese food almost everyday but this place makes it so delicious you can eat the whole entire plate. Prices are reasonable, staff are friendly and the place is clean. Washrooms are a bit small compared to most, the women washrooms have only 5 stalls. If you ever want to have a section booked off, they have reasonable prices for that as well.

Was here for a private wedding event at the restaurant. In fact it was a 10 course Chinese meal wedding which I find kickass great and crazy amounts of food. However there are times in which I'm a fat kid on a cupcake, and a 10 course Chinese menu is no time to be on weight watchers, counting calories or on a diet honey! Seriously. Here is a rundown of the pig out: 1) Pork and Jellyfish - very solid. Lol actually I though I was eating duck it was rich and tasty! 2) Fried crab claw appetizers. Chewy, crab-eriffic and piping hot 3) Scallop and gai lan- I'm spoiled as I'm used to fresh scallops. These were definitely frozen. Overall okay but not amazing. 4) Shark fin- crab maw soup- Not sure if it was real shark fin. People are in uproars over SFS these days but I grew up with this on my Chinese side. I respect people's opinions but it's tradition for me. I'm fine if they outlaw it just don't get all preachy on me. 5) Lobster- Cantonese style- absolutely delicious. If bugs of the sea are your thing they do a great job! 6) Sea cucumber, mushrooms and fish- another great delicacy. Google sea cucumbers if you have a strong stomach. Definitely not a cucumber but definitely delish! 7) Crispy chicken- a tad dry for my liking but flavour was spot on. 8) Fish, Chinese ham, mushroom w broccoli. - okay my stomach was read to explode but this was quite good also. 9) Fried rice- like I needed carbs at the end of a huge meal but it was moderately good. 10) Noodles- had a very small serving. Stomach too full. The brought out the traditional red bean soup to close the night off but I'm clearly not a fan of this. Also were some sesame buns and other treats. Service at the restaurant was excellent and the meal although had some flat spots was overall very good!

One of my top places to go to for dim sum. Good price, lots of options and I love the carts. You can order off the menu as well. Service was awesome and the place is clean. Got there around 10:30 and we got a table right away but when we left at 11:30 there was a line up. But the service is fast so they were getting people in there fast so I didn't seem like it would be a long wait. Highly suggest this place for your dim sum cravings

Went there for dinner w my extended family. There was ten of us and we ordered the $288 set menu that was way to much food but here is the breakdown: cold platter - not bad; came with jellyfish, beef, chicken wing, surf clam and some abalone Chicken & pork neck meat stirfry with snap peas - pretty tasty, gingery and tender meat. Deep fried shrimp "cake" with sweet mayo - The shrimp was delicious. I could not find this in the English menu so have no idea what this is called but it was really good. I dont like the mayo but the shrimp itself was great. Crabmeat & fish maw soup - good with generous amounts of fish maw. 2 whole crabs in a shrimpy salted fish broth and vermicelli - it was ok, I pretty my crabs lightly battered and deep fried. Tilapia steamed with ginger & onion - fish was really fresh but the sauce was a little bland. It was also herb-y which is unusually for the typical steamed fish. Steamed chicken & crispy chicken (1/2 chicken each) - not bad. the crispy chicken was definitely crispy. Seafood fried rice - not bad but a little salty. Gailan & noodles in a soup - The soup tasted just like the Knorr Wonton mix. I didn't enjoy it at all. Pork Spareribs in japanese teriyaki sauce - this was delicious! The spareribs was amazingly tender with a nice sticky glaze. Very good. I probably won't order the set menu because it was way too much food and actually quite price-y. The individual plates are pretty reasonably priced ( a little more than Chinatown prices) but still reasonable. That would be the way to go since some of the items on this menu is just fillers.

Some things I just don't understand. Beijing Dim Sum Seafood Restaurant being crazy packed on a Saturday evening is one of them. Okay, okay, sure, it was Chinese New Year weekend but it still doesn't make sense in my mind. I know south side is lacking in good Chinese options but come on peeps, get with it. We went to try one of their 10 person, fancy banquet style set menus (Chinese writing only, found by my grandma in the Chinese newspaper). Service is iffy here - they had our order wrong and had to call over the owner/boss man to "discuss" the issue. Man, for a $338.00 set dinner, you'd think they could at least get that right. Did I mention they charge you $2.00/person for rice? Talk about gouging your clientele. But let's not get too hasty, we haven't even talked about the food yet. Right? Uh, yeah, totally, bro. Let's get to it. - House special cold platter - started our meal off on a nice note with a good variety of cold meats, pickled vegetables (daikon and carrots) and cucumbers. - Milk based cream noodles with shrimp -this dish was gross. Not impressed with the milk based cream sauce, which was bland and tasteless. The noodles were the same. At least there were some decent sized shrimps on top. - Stir fried pork with vegetables - a pretty simple, straightforward dish but done well. A mixture of onion, red peppers, and cassava (which I've never had at a Chinese restaurant before). But again, nothing special. - Seafood soup - soup and seafood are always the best combination. This may or may not have had shark fin in it with crab. I disapprove of killing sharks for this soup but man, is it ever delicious. - Two lobsters -why is lobster so damn good and expensive? Why can't it be like the good 'ol days when they were considered a poor man's food. This dish gets you two lobsters for the price of one...no, that's a lie, more like quadruple (or more) the face value. They were good. - Crispy fried chicken with shrimp chips -the chicken was a bit dry and overcooked. You have to hunt for the dark meat and then you're all good. - Pea shoots with crab and egg white sauce - pea shoots are such a delight, I would eat these every day if I could. Topped with egg white and barely there crab pieces. - Steamed fish - decent steamed fish but it needed to be more tender. It was lacking that sweet, succulent flavour that you normally get when you order this dish. - Fried rice - the fried rice was probably one of the better dishes of the night. Flavourful and had a nice crispy, fried wok texture. - Duck with noodles -the last dish we had was thin noodles with duck, red onions, bean sprouts and mushroom. Average at best. Minimal amount of duck. - White rice ($2.00/person) - like I said above, they charged us $2/person for rice! Holy crap, insanity. Overall, what can I say about Beijing? I've been once before for dim sum and it was mediocre. The result was exaclty the same for dinner. Passable but I wasn't impressed, especially with a few of the dishes. When you factor in the price, I won't be running back anytime soon. More like running as far away as possible. On to the next one, on to the next one...

Edmonton isn't necessarily known as a hot spot for the best Chinese food in the country (it's no…read moreRichmond, BC or Scarborough, ON) but this cuisine is certainly on its way up. With renewed appreciation for the city's Chinatown and innovators like Fu's on the scene, people are taking notice in a delicious way. My stomach is very pleased to be a part of this renaissance and reframing of Asian fare in Edmonton. I bet you didn't know that we have soup dumplings in town - and I mean really good ones. Named Favourite Dish on the Edmonton Food Faves We Crave 2022 and 2024 lists, this was a dish that I absolutely needed to try. Visiting on a dark and cold Saturday evening, we made the trek out to Dominion Industrial, unsurprisingly not a part of the city that I often frequent. By now you know that I am always happy to venture around for food! The outside of the restaurant is very unassuming and you might even miss it if you don't know what you're looking for. Keep an eye out for the red awning and you'll know that you've found the right place. There's parking around the side and back of the building. Entering through the door and walking into the space, I was immediately struck by a wave of tantalizing hot and sour aromas. A friendly staff member guided us to a table in the decently-sized dining room and I began to take everything in. The room is somewhat modest but maybe a little futuristic with chrome-topped tables and matching chairs. Huge round tables are outfitted with big rotating trays in the center, waiting to accommodate large groups. I liked that each place setting was ready with a bowl, soup spoon, teacup, and chop sticks. A picture of the Shanghai city skyline decorates the wall. Circling back to the staff, we were served by two different women during our visit and both were absolutely lovely. Incredibly warm, friendly, attentive, and helpful. The menu is quite extensive and they were happy to answer all of our questions and made useful recommendations. They really elevated our visit! Upon sitting down we were delivered the customary pot of jasmine green tea - very welcome due to the frigid temperature outside. The warm sips were an ideal way to defrost while creating a plan for our feast. Shanghai 456 is known for their soup dumplings but they serve a whole lot more. The menu is really big and it took a little while for us to decide all of the different dishes that we wanted to try. We got there eventually but not without some effort! Once the order was placed the various plates began to arrive in no particular order. The feast had begun! We thought that a noodle dish would be a good "base" for the meal. I liked the sound of the Shanghai style smoked fish noodle but was informed that it was served as a soup. Soup is harder to share among a group so instead we went with the Shanghai Noodle Sautéed with Pork and Vegetables ($16.95). The ample portion of wok-fried noodles was served hot and delicious. Each tender and thick noodle was bathed in a tasty and savoury sauce. The cabbage within the dish added a nice fresh crunch and the thin strips of pork helped to round out the plate. These noodles were easy to eat and very satisfying. After that, we leaned into the Shanghai Dim Sum part of the menu hard - all remaining dishes came from this part of the menu, arguably what the restaurant is most known for. So much to choose from and so many plates that caught my eye! Next to arrive was the Sticky Rice Roll with Chinese Long Donut and Dried Pork Floss ($7.95). I was too intrigued by the idea of this dish to not try it. It arrived looking kind of like a sushi roll but that was the beginning and the end of the similarity. I'm a huge fan of Chinese long donuts (you can get the best ones in Edmonton at Shan Shan Bakery in Chinatown) so I was really curious to find out how this would work within a rice roll. Turns out, it works really well! A wonderful combination of sweet and savoury combined with some really interesting textural elements from the sticky rice to the crispy donut to the dry shards of pork. I've never tried anything like this before and it was fun to eat! Then it was time for the traditional Chinese broth-filled dumplings! Otherwise known as xiao long bao (or XLB if you're extra cool). "Xiao long" refers to the bamboo steaming basket which they are prepared in, while "bao" means bun and refers to the dumpling itself. They can be made with all sorts of different fillings on the inside. There is also a specific way for them to be eaten - you don't just start tossing them into your mouth (although I'm sure that no one would be mad if you did). The little ritual involved in eating the bao adds to the special experience. You are meant to lift the dumpling from its top with chopsticks and place it into your spoon. Then you poke a hole into the bottom of the bao to release the hot broth. There is soup inside of each dumpling! First you drink the hot broth out of the spoon and then you enjoy the rest o

Food came out fast and hot. All of it was delicious. I really can't pick a favourite. We were both full but kept eating because it was so delicious. Try it!

Get a proper bamboo steamer (I found some from TNT for a decent price) - and do not get the small sized ones you see at the dim sum places, pick up the large 20cm or wider ones and get a pot that can hold them (I use a wide 29 cm pot from Canadian tire and rest the bamboo steamers on top the matching bamboo steamer sits perfectly and can hold about 50 pieces of siu-my). I live in a part of the city where there is a huge gap in the market, not considered part of the south because of proximity to the river, but too far south to be considered central, so the number of places that will deliver to my home is extremely limited. However, Dynasty delivers anywhere in the city and that is a big plus in our books given the current circumstances. Ordering is easy, even if you don't speak cantonese. If you prefer to order in English, you can text your order or call the cell phone. While phoning the restaurant's mainline, depends on who is available to answer the phone for the day. They have a bunch of great promos going on that change from time to time, but currently, it's 20% off their entire menu and if you spend over $45, you also get to select a rice or noodle dish (from 4 options) for free. And delivery is free. While the take out menu is redacted and not the full menu, I think most of the popular items are available, so you should be able to find what you are looking for! The food always comes fresh and packed nicely, each in it's own respective container, and plenty of sauce as well. If you want extra you can probably ask for more, but usually what they provide is enough for us. Their pricing is really great value and you get a generous portion of food for the price. The only downside is there is no option to pay in advance, so you pay upon delivery and they have mobile merchant terminal, so paying with credit card/debit is possible, and I would imagine preferred as that would be the more contact less way to pay.

I finally made my way to this iconic Calgary Trail North spot that is beloved for dim sum on a Saturday evening and was excited to sample all of their small plates! In fact, the Edmonton Journal named Golden Rice Bowl as the Best/Favourite Dim Sum Restaurant 2020, 2022, and 2023. It was high time that I experienced it for myself! You'll find Golden Rice Bowl in a strip mall-style plaza that is full of various businesses and yes, if you've been an Edmontonian for any amount of time, you've driven by regularly. The restaurant looks large from the outside with huge red lettering alerting passersby to the dim sum within. The inside is just as expansive, boasting a huge open dining area. I noticed that they have various partitions and the ability to section off parts of the room if needed - likely for private events. As with many Chinese restaurants, you are immediately greeted by a sizable (and very clean!) aquarium filled with beautiful tropical fish. However, I was even more impressed by the aquariums at the very back of the restaurant - these ones filled with live fish and seafood for the kitchen. It doesn't get much fresher than that! The room is ornate but not overdone. Bright red paint on the walls is accented by golden decor items such as gilded dragons with glowing eyes. The ceiling drips with crystal chandeliers and the space is filled with a sea of tables in various sizes. This is the type of place where large generational families come to gather, sitting around huge round tables with a signature lazy susan in the center of each one. Once seated we were served a pot of Chinese Tea ($1.50 each) and began to peruse the menu. (No, the tea was not included.) I liked that all of the dishware was matching, from the teapot to the bowls. Golden Rice Bowl is known for their dim sum but they also boast a complete and extensive menu of general Chinese food. There's a lot to choose from! However, on my visit the plan was to stick to the dim sum menu only, which is available all day long (even though it is traditionally eaten as brunch). Originating in the south of China, dim sum features a wide variety of small, bite-sized dishes typically served in steamer baskets or on small plates. It's pretty similar to the Spanish concept of tapas. Many dim sum restaurants use trolley carts to parade their offerings around, however a more modern practice is to provide guests with a checklist menu that you fill out and hand back to your server. Golden Rice Bowl does neither of these things and the server simply writes down your order in typical fashion. The dim sum menu is two pages long and offers over fifty items! Some of the dishes were larger, family-style plates which makes sense to round out the meal especially at dinnertime. The only issue is that there are no prices listed on the dim sum menu so you sort of just have to hope for the best? Our feast began with an order of Wor Wonton Soup ($29.95). At first we assumed the this would be served as single servings but the server pointed out that it would come as one big soup to share. Very glad that he clarified this! I was very impressed by our gracious and attentive server who portioned the bowls of soup for each of us at our table. Giant in size, this was much more than a basic wonton soup with a couple of dumplings floating around! This flavourful version was packed full with big pieces of chicken, pork, and shrimp. Plus tons of vegetables, and yes, of course wonton dumplings containing a meaty filling. Every ingredient was bright and fresh and I was glad to get some veggies into the meal because dim sum can be quite a "brown dinner." The other larger dish that we ordered was the Ginger Beef ($29.95), a dish invented in Calgary with an interesting history. Certainly not traditional, ginger beef is a quintessential Canadian Chinese dish that was invented in the 1970s. Deep fried strips of beef are coated in a dark, sweet sauce and it's quite delicious. The tanginess of the sauce is so addictive and the texture of the beef is satisfying. The version at GRB is quite good, however the best ginger beef that I've ever tasted was at Emerald Garden Restaurant in Calgary. Then it was time for the actual dim sum! Little plates incoming!! We really wanted to try the Pan Fried Taro Root with Pork Sausage but were unfortunately informed that they did not have any available. Our server suggested the Pan Fried Chinese Turnip with Pork Sausage ($7.95) instead, which did look somewhat similar. (The fact that the dim sum menu shows images of every item is very helpful!) Unfortunately, this turned out to be the least favourite dish of the night just because the texture was really challenging. These cakes were extremely soft and mushy. I actually did enjoy the flavour of the turnip and sausage but the mushiness was a bit too difficult to get around.
