This has to be my favourite bagel place in London. Living out west, I don't visit this establishment nearly as often as I would like too but this is probably a good thing! One of the cheapest and tastiest meals in London and I often get a 1/2 dozen to take away with a salmon and cream cheese to have on the spot. It's a good idea to keep some in the freezer for any bagel emergencies if you don't happen to live a stumble away. There is always a queue but it goes really quickly as the service is really speedy. The bagels here are definitely not as good, and the meat is definitely not from Katz's, but those are tough standards to live up to. Beigel Bake is open 24 hours a day, which is really convenient. I got here at 10 pm on a Friday night, and it was packed. The line might look long, but it moves very quickly. I ordered their famous salt beef beigel with a pickle. The bagel was chewy and fluffy while the salt. definitely was juicy and tender. Top it off with some spicy mustard and a pickle, and the sandwich is complete. The pickle was 20p extra, which I thought was unreasonable. In total, the entire sandwich was 4.30 pounds, which is a little pricey for such a small sandwich. Nevertheless, they packed it full with meat. If you're looking to be cheap, you could buy another plain bagel and move half the meat to make another sandwich. If you're walking through Brick Lane, don't go to a mediocre curry house, go to Beigel Bake! read more

Now, while the bagel wasn't anything to write home about (Montreal bagels set a high standard), the sandwiches as a whole were amazing. And cheap. So. Freaking. Cheap. Let's start with the salted beef. Topped with hot mustard and pickles, this behemoth beigel was stuffed with some of the most tender, juicy and downright delicious salted beef that I've ever tasted. A+. As for the salmon bagel, it blows my mind how they can load it up with that much fish and still charge less than £2. Although I've been a regular for years, I still get excited about getting a beigal. Crunchy on the outside, warm and chewy on the inside - they are amazing doughy goodness every time. Although there's always a queue outside Beigal Bake, I wouldn't let that put you off (or even sway towards the yellow Beigal Shop a few doors down). The queue goes down pretty quickly and it's so worth it in the end. They have a good range of fillings. OMG. I actually inhaled with excitement when I realised I was going to write this review. If I could give Beigel Bake any more stars I would. The queue is long it goes round the whole inside of the shop and carries on outside. However, the queue is worth it. The staff are prepared for the queue and are efficient AND know exactly what to do. We are a conveyor belt of customers to them. The food is jaw dropping good. It was my first time there so I only ordered one item. My friend had been there before and knew to order more (for later). You should do what my friend did, trust me you wont regret it. read more

It happens every time. It's 3.43am somewhere in London (actually everywhere in London, probably, but you can only account for the place you're in), and you will be bang out of ideas of what to do. Of course, the normal people sleep, but we're yelpers. Why would we sleep? Instead we're looking for places to review, or we're checking out pictures of pretty local yelpers. It hits 3.44am and someone will have a genius idea. The kind of idea that has never been thought of before (apart from the last time someone thought of it, before you went and forgot about it again), and that idea is ----- "Let's go to Brick Lane and get bagels!" It's an amazing idea, especially when in a group, because you will always come across these 4 people: Person 1: Too tired to go for bagels. Person 2: Doesn't believe the bagel place will be open at 3.44am (which is understandable, as the rest of London closes at about 5.30pm, apart from Tesco) Person 3: Is worried everyone will get mugged and shot in Brick Lane. Person 4: Overly energetic and determined to buy ten bagels. Anyway, the idea is genius. So you jump in a car and speed off into the night like you're in a Springsteen song, except sadly you're in a beat up old Volvo somewhere just West of Leytonstone. And then you have the decision to make. Which bagel place? Beigel Shop or Beigel Bake? One of them is the 'famous one' and one of them is the 'not very good one' but nobody ever remembers which is which. Someone will inevitably have the answer but there'll be someone else to argue the point. Truth is, Beigel Shop is the famous one, whereas this one, Beigel Bake, is the quiet, unassuming, and better tasting one. The bagels here are just great. Splendid. They taste like they are meant to taste, like they used to taste, back in the days before supermarkets mass stocked breads and made them about as tasty as a long-life packet of rice. You're probably reading this somewhere between midnight and 5am because a) That's when the cool people read Yelp, and because of b) That's when fate brought you here. Get the salt beef bagel sandwich...small but freshly baked bagel loaded with sliced beef and spicy english mustard. You won't be disappointed. And at 3.50 it's a cheap lunch. I've been coming to Beigel bake for about 7 years now and even though I don't live in London, if I'm in the East it's somewhere I'll make a move to in order to get myself a sack to take back on the train up to Manchester. Really authentic, fresh and downright awesome - there's no frills or graces here but with a large counter area and a standing area for enjoying that quick bagel hot off the press, it does its job well - a bit like the staff who are more efficient than overly friendly but that's not really needed. On this occasion I bought 20 bagels at 25p each and also a hot salt beef bagel for less than £4 - possibly the best deal in the history of the world! This places rocks - whuppppah! read more

Be ready with your order. I highly recommend the salt beef bagel sandwich (yes, with mustard). £3.50. You can stand on the side of the shop and enjoy or take it out on the street. A trip to London last spring put my hotel a short walk south of this beigel shop. What a God-send. A 24/7 shop to buy dirt-cheap food that's not McDonald's? Hallelujah. The woman who served us had black dirt under her fingernails, was wiping her nose on her hand and used the same hand she used to serve us to take our money. It gave us the jebejebies. I was walking through the market on Brick Lane while visiting London (Oct 2013) and happened to walk by this place. I was dinner time and I was hungry, and wanted something quick and easy. I walked by, saw baked goods, then saw salted beef beigels in the window. Like a kid, I pressed my face against the glass and grunted at the young lady on the other side of the glass. I walked in and got in line...with 20 other people... There were 3 ladies in front of me talking about their day and not paying attention. The old lady, who seemed to be in charge, pointed at me and said "what'll you'll have laddy?" Yes they way they prepare the meal is disgusting. Do I care? NO. These little Beigel sandwiches will be a part of every single Brick Lane trip I take in the future. For 25p (+, depending on what fillings you get in your sandwich...although the plain buttered one is surprisingly satisfying), these bagels are the best (drunk) food money can buy (but it's really good for a sober breakfast as well, I promise). Love the disgruntled Cockney ladies who staff the place and give it so much character, as well as the eclectic crowds who pass through this joint. This shop provided cheap eats during my poor student days in the '90s. Little has changed except I'm no longer poor and no longer a student. Bagels are 20p. The salt beef bagel is 3.30. You don't have to dig deep for this. I sampled the wares yesterday, propped up at the wall counters with the service woman screeching "MORE SALT BEEF" to the back. So, I'd been Roller Discoing and fallen over badly. I'm in pain and hacked off. My housemate takes me to Beigel Bake and I am cheered by this unassuming lovely place. There is a queue out the door which tells me that this is a good place to be and the queue moves quickly. My usual salmon and cream cheese tastes like it never has before and the beigel itself is warm and soft and delicious. I can't remember how much it cost as the pain I was in blurs a lot of my memory from that night but I do remember the tasty goodness of the beigel, oh yes I do. I love this place for offering a non-greasy solution to the munchies during/after a night out. I stayed for the super cheap am-I-really-in-zone-1 prices and tasty cream cheese filling. But I will hesitate to go back after I was shouted at by the woman behind the counter for asking for my second bagel without realising she'd put two of them in a single bag in front of me. 'It's in there already!!' - well excuuuse me for not having x-ray vision and questioning whether she'd heard me order two. Yes this place is an institution, and the queue is as long out the door at 2am as it is at 2pm, but it doesn't give the staff a license to make you feel small. Maybe I'm too easily offended and shouldn't really care at these prices, but going forward I for one will be putting aside the similarly dodgy spelling of the work bagel and heading to the less busy but friendlier 'beigel shop' 3 doors down from here instead. read more

The best beigels in the world. Notice the spelling difference. These are small, compact chewy gems that are churned out fresh and flavourful at industrial speed by the family team here. And they need to be with a 24 hour demand and a typical line of 20 waiting at most times during the day. Everything is fresh, fantastic and at rock-bottom prices. I think you can get something like 10 beigels for a quid twenty and the smoked salmon cream cheese beigel is about a third of what you pay elsewhere. Get 3! Most popular is the salt beef and mustard. To begin with, the bagel was alright. The bread was lovely, but the rest: meh. I got myself all the way to Shoreditch after reading all these superpositive reviews about this tiny "beigel" shop. My enthusiasm ran away when I saw the storefront. Stacked up bin bags in and around the door, with rubbish crawling its way inside the restaurant. Inside, the floor was filthy and covered in pieces of torn paper. I decided not to let the obviously poor hygiene scare me and queued. After a few tourists tried to step in front of me, I got to order, but not before being yelled at by the woman behind the counter "COME ON!!" she shouted. Well, sorry for saying hello, I guess. The food wasn't even as good as I expected, or maybe I just got unlucky as my hot salt beef was mostly fat. Probably beef fat, but still fat. As another reviewer said, "The people who work here are very generally rude assholes". Yes, yes they are. And for me, that's a MAJOR deal-breaker.
