Although it has up-scaled a great deal, going from an average neighborhood hardware, to upscale specialty paint/hardware/housewares and gifts it still has the same neighborhood feel and even some of the same staff. Wilder, who works behind the paint counter in the basement, where most of the "serious" hardware is located, has been there ever since I can remember, and always provides one of the best customer service experiences available. He knows his stuff, and is always happy to help. Upstairs, where the gifts and housewares are found, is home to what I can only describe as *the* best selection of gifts for hard to shop for hipsters and grandparents ever... It has to be seen to be believed. If your looking for some unique gifts, specialty hardware, or are just tired of the so-so service at other big box hardwares, try Hogg out...

Anyway it seems Montreal doesn't have a lot of places that sells that but saw online that Hogg hardware does since it's part of the Home Hardware group. Went in, ordered it, got a call 2 days later to pick and it wasn't expensive at all. The guys are also really nice but while I was waiting around I saw a ton of cool stuff for the home including soy candles, funky door handles and coat hooks, and stuff you'll never see at Home Depot. I used to buy soy candles at Winners (since soy doesn't produce soot and burns cleanly), but increasingly they don't carry them anymore and instead have "hand-poured" candles ( what the hell is that supposed to mean if it doesn't change the fact that it produces soot?) but now at least I can get some here at a reasonable price. There's a reason why it's located in Westmount and also Nun's Island, it's definitely more bourgeoisie and less blue-collar.

What a lovely store, right on Greene close to St. Catherine St…read more Driving back from dinner the other night, late, we passed this store and the display in the front bay window was so beautiful and arresting, I made a mental note to return here to check out the place during weekday hours. (The window contained the most stunning, shining, gem stone colored candles shaped as balls, in various sizes, all perfectly orbital and shining with a glossy finish. Some were quite large, and the arrangement, with all these glorious deep hued colors. were truly sculptural in their effect. I wish I had taken a photo. I've never seen candles like that. I actually thought they were sculptures). My mother and I visited this store today and wow, what a wonderful collection of uber-luxurious items, many of which are quite unique, I've not seen the likes of them anywhere else before. A sampling of some of the gorgeous items we saw: gourmet foodstuffs, packaged like none other (ex., olive oils and vinegars, in modern hand-painted artisanal ceramic or glass cruets and bottles. I'm talking kick-ass modern artwork, the kind of pieces you'd love to put on your table, and keep long after the oil or vinegar is gone. And amazingly beautiful Italian candies and biscuits, all packaged like artwork. And honeys and tapenades and other foodie condiments); tableware (ex., thick lacquered placemats that could literally be hung on the wall as artwork, serving ware and drink ware by Baccarat and other high-end lines, jaw-dropping plates and dishes, so contemporary, in all shapes and sizes and materials); small house linens (lots of pretty tea towels and cocktail-inspired hand towels); and, luxurious skin and body care products (I didn't really inspect these, as I was focused on the house stuff). They also had a few contemporary furniture pieces, like organic-shaped black wooden side tables or coffee tables, or narrow and a tall matte metal entryway table. All very cool, that would work in a variety of spaces, with a variety of aesthetics. But by far, this store has the most home decorative accents and accessories, and my mom and I oohed and ahhed over the majority of them. Stunning centerpieces, decorative sculptural pieces, candlesticks, picture frames, accent pillows, poker sets, vases, trays.... so many gorgeous things to look at here. Sure, the prices are high, but we are talking high-end pieces, the kinds you'd maybe see at Berghoff's (if anywhere). The two ladies who work here are super friendly. No pressure to buy anything or rush through the store. They were fun to talk to and really warm. This is THE place to go to if you have lots of money and need a gift for a discerning friend - or yourself!

I loved the multiple green spaces around the café area where you could relax with a drink and a book under some greenery. Large floor to ceiling windows let in plenty of light and the opportunity to watch the world go by outside. We picked up a bottle of olive oil as a gift. Will definitely be back for more browsing.

The staff was welcoming but definitely left you to explore and wander the store. It also houses a cool little cafe with bread and pastries from L' Amour au Pain. The latte was really good. Sorry, no drip brewed coffee for any Americans out there. I believe they make sandwiches and salads for a quick no fuss lunch. Ok, now the part I've been hesitant on whether I should share because I want it to be my own little piece of urban paradise. I figured in the end, it is not mine to keep and I would be doing the business owners a disservice by not helping them attract more clients to them. This place should be shared with anyone willing to explore the hidden treasures of the City. Most tourists would not come into a home furnishings place, but trust me. You want to at least grab a coffee and follow me. My absolute favorite part is their little shaded "terrasse" ally. If you ever need a little hideaway when you are in Old Port. It's the perfect place. I feel like I've been transported to a different time and place. Nothing fancy, just tranquil, a simple elegance that the French are synonymous with. I wonder if the manager would kick me out if I curled up with a book one day.

This store is the first Miniso that I have ever visited that is not in a mall. It was different seeing a standalone store. You can get cool items at cheap prices. I stumbled on the sunglasses section first. I tried on a few pairs. They felt cheap, but stylish. I like the merchandise in Miniso, although I have yet to buy anything from the store! For instance, I liked the bear USB 4-port hub. It was adorable. It would look great with the bear trash can. I do love the computer and phone accessories. I could look at the USB fans and charging cables all day. There are tons of snacks. If you like Pocky, you can find practically every flavour imaginable. The stuffed animals and water bottles were at the back. I liked the varieties and colours. There were a fair number of folks shopping when I was there. The sales folks were trying to help a person with a question as I walked out. It's a nice addition to the area. Maybe when I'm back, I'll get something and break my browsing streak! (325)
