If you are a fan of the Living with the Land attraction at EPCOT, this tour is a must-do. I have loved the ride since I was little, and it was so cool to see everything from another perspective. You are encouraged to take photos and ask questions, and our tour guide was so sweet and knowledgeable. It was really cool to hear about where all the produce goes that they grow in the greenhouse. We even got to try one of their famous cucumbers (iykyk). They give you an earpiece to wear so you can hear what the guide is saying during the tour. I thought it was very informative and a cool behind-the-scenes tour of one of my favorite rides at Disney. I would love to do it again during Christmas when they have all the lights up. read more

This is a pre-COVID review. Loved the tour. Les was an awesome tour guide. He really knew his stuff and you could tell that he has been working with Living with the Land for a long time. The tour itself was fun with the different locations and the interactive portions, whether it be touching the plants, feeding the fish, or smelling the different spices. Overall, I would highly recommend taking the tour and it's the best $25 extra bucks you can spend at EPCOT. It's educational, it's "exclusive," and they make learning fun. Wonkish Dorky Dry About as fun as watching C-SPAN 3 on Christmas Day All of those thoughts could be used to describe a tour of this nature but at the same time it's also incredibly informative and it's one of the rare times that you can quasi-go behind the scenes a bit to see something completely non-Disney while being at Disney. To reserve you can either hook up with a tour the day of (they usually have around 9 times a day starting starting at 10:30 and going until 4:30) at the desk right by Soarin' or they can book you one in advance or go you can call 407-WDW-TOUR up to 90 days in advance. Current prices are $20 per adult and $16 per child and the tour runs approximately an hour. This type of tour is going to be dry simply by the nature of the material unless you are a super green thumb person so the guide is going to be what makes it or breaks it for most people. The guy we had was from a small town in Oregon and had only been working for Disney a few months but what he may have lacked in experience he more than made up for it with a clear passion for the material and a great-funny attitude which kept things enjoyable. Other Yelpers have already described the tour so I can't add anything to that part other than to simply say that what they said still holds true about the format. Overall this type of activity is far more what EPCOT was meant to be about than what it has become and doing this is well worth the hour respite from Disney crass commercialism/increasingly dumbed down entertainment. read more

Since this was the husbeasts break from work, and he likes behind the scenes tour, after we got off the living with the Land ride, he wanted to do the "Behind the Seeds" tour. So that's what we did. When we checked in, we were the only 2 to have done so, but by the time the tour took off, there were 9 of us, including a very dear friend of mine who'll be leaving for VA at the end of the week, Such a nice surprise! Bri, our tour guide was a delight. She's one of the interns at Epcot and she was exceedingly friendly and knowledgable about the current program that Disney has going on. The tour itself takes about 1-1.25 hours, and is very informative, it goes through the Hydroponic and aquaponic growing programs as well as advancements in agriculture. The cost $20 per person, A little less if you're an annual passholder. Oh and there are quite a few hidden mickeys on the tour. read more

One of my favorite rides at Epcot is the Living with the Land Ride. When I found out there was a behind the scenes tour of this facility I knew I had to go! BE WARNED...it's very EDUCATIONAL! Some may say nerdy, whatever adjective you choose,if that isn't your thing, then skip this tour and go grab yourself a drink or drinks at Epcot's World Showcase. We learned about the leafminer fly as well as the the parasitoid wasp- how they help and destroy plants. We also saw plants that are grown from tissue culture- very neat! Of course, behind the scenes we got to see the plants, vegetables, flowers up close. The nutrient solutions they used at the Green house, I wish I had my own supply! Then I can grow my plants! We were also able to sample fresh seedless cucumbers from the garden. Yum! Overall, a great tour and very affordable for $20 a person...but you have to have an interest in this, or this may be boring. I also loved finding the hidden Mickeys along the tour as well as learning so much about horticulture! Now I want to start my own garden!! read more

I only recommend this tour if you are VERY interested in agriculture. My husband and I had always wondered about this tour since we both love floating through the greenhouse on the Living With The Land boat ride, and the price was right (about $10 per person). You get to walk through the labs and greenhouse which sounds pretty cool, but the girl leading our group gave us WAY TOO INFORMATION about everything. It got pretty boring pretty quickly. I felt like Pee Wee Herman on the tour of the Alamo ("There are thousands and thousands of uses for corn, all of which I'm gonna tell you about right now!"). The highlights of the tour were getting to throw a handful of fish food into the farmed fish tank and releasing a couple of ladybugs into the greenhouse. I thought the tour was just too long and I didn't really learn much more than I did from riding through (quickly) on the boat ride. If you want to stare and talk about hydroponic lettuce for 90 minutes, then this tour is 100% absolutely right up your alley. read more

EPCOT has always been my favorite theme park in Disney World, and The Land is one pavilion I always find myself spending more time in than the others in Future World. Moreover, I always make an effort to ride Living With the Land - I love the "edutainment" aspect of the experience, and though I have no background in agriculture I wanted to enrich my EPCOT experience and take the Behind the Seeds tour. The price was right; I think it was ~$20 per person, and if you are a Disney Vacation Club member you get a discounted rate. We checked-in at the desk right next to Soarin' and were instructed to wait off to the side, but we didn't wait more than 5 or 10 minutes. We got name badges to wear (hello!) and were shuffled off through a back corridor into the greenhouse. Each person quickly gave their vitals then our tour guide introduced herself - she was a cast member who recently graduated and is now doing a horticulture/agriculture internship in Disney. That being said, she knew what she was talking about - she did a good job getting us to participate and was very informative. Think of the tour like Living With the Land on steroids - you get to see in detail how they control pests with natural pesticides, the different fruits, veggies, and plants they grow in the greenhouse, their fish farming practices, and the current research they're doing. I enjoyed the tour, but it's one of those things for me where once is enough, I got all I could out of it. read more

You have a chance to potentially feed the fish. 2. Sampling of whatever fruit or vegetable that is in season. 3. How has no one ever reviewed the Behind the Seeds tour?! This is hands down one of the coolest things at Epcot that you probably don't even know is there. When you ride The Land, you go through a bunch of different greenhouses, seeing all of the plants and fish from your boat. On the Behind the Seeds tour, you get to walk around those very same greenhouses. Your tour guide walks you through, explaining the different techniques used throughout the different spaces. They let you sample some of the produce, and when I went, they gave me a Mickey shaped cucumber (!). Really, they should market those, because I'm sure any kid would be more likely to eat veggies if they looked like Mickey. Also, at the beginning of the tour I was given a vial of ladybugs, and told I could sprinkle them on any plant I liked. Oh, and there is this cool plant that looked like a fern but if you shake it, it closes all of it's leaflets. So cool. Oh, and they let you feed the tilapia. Stand back though, because when the food hits the water, they go crazy. If someone fell in to the tank by accident, there would be nothing left - those little dudes are voracious! My tour guide was awesome, and her name was Eve - so of course, I had to point to her and go "eeeEEEv-A" in my best Wall-E voice. I apologized, because it was so ridiculous that I would do that, and she assured me it happens all the time. Season passholders get a discount on the tour fee. However, it was neat going behind the scenes of the ride and we even got to taste cucumber grown there. We all thought that this was an entertaining and informative tour. You check in for the tour at the desk that is located near the entrance to Soarin. When your designated start time arrives a tour guide will come out and lead you to a back area of the building. One of the first things you will do is learn about insects and how they interact with some of the plants in the exhibits. You're even given your own vial full of ladybugs that are to be released later. You eventually are led to the main area where all of the plant life is grown. It was interesting to learn that a huge portion of the produce that is served at Epcot restaurants is grown directly here at The Land. One of the most interesting plants that they showed us was some type of fern that will actually recoil instantly when you touch it. I had never seen anything like that before. I was completely fascinated with their hydroponic system. It was crazy to see all the vines that were growing overhead and then looking down to see they actually originated from a small pot. You can't get a sense of the scope when you're on the ride that goes through this area because you can't stop and really look at anything like you can on this tour. Some of the plants were producing absolutely enormous vegetables. They definitely have perfected their growing methods here. It was funny seeing the confused looks on peoples faces when they went by us in their boats. We definitely felt like part of the show. When we reached the end of the tour it was time for us to release our ladybugs. I gently released my vial full of cute little bugs that would soon go out and viciously destroy unwanted pests such as aphids. It's important to note that if you want to go on this tour you also have to have your Epcot admission taken care of. It is not included with the price of this tour. As far as Disney goes this tour is very moderately priced. We thought it was well worth the money! read more

Being regular Disney visitors Mrs. M and I wanted to branch out on our last visit and added the 'Behind the Seeds' tour to our agenda. We were very happy with our choice! If you enjoy the Living with the Land ride here in Epcot then I would recommend you consider adding this your also. It was very informative and fun. Information was plentiful and questions welcomed and the insight gained makes the ride even more enjoyable. Our kids are now grown but I don't think I'd bring little ones as it would probably bore most. If we were still doing this with youngsters I think we would have waited until ours were in the 8-10 range and as home schoolers we could have easily wrapped lessons around the endeavor. If you have ANY interest in food or the environment, this tour will interest you. I don't think you have to be "VERY interested in agriculture" for this to be worthwhile. The price is currently $20 pp with 15% off for annual passholders. But $20 pp WITHOUT the discount would be a bargain. The tour guide is an intern whose education and expertise is in a field such as horticulture, which our guide had just received her degree in. The tour is about an hour long and the intern is able to answer pretty much any plant- or bug-related question you can think of. My husband and I love to visit all of the WDW parks. We visit about once or twice a year, so this time we wanted to change our trip a bit. So when I read about the Behind the Seeds Tour at EPCOT, we quickly signed up! (DISCLAIMER: Don't forget to ask about discounted prices - we received a discount because we have a Chase Disney Credit Card, but there are others as well. Without a discount, I believe the price is around $20/person.) Our tour lasted about 1.5 hours and it gave us a more in depth view of everything you see on the Living off the Land ride. We learned about Disney pioneering new and innovative methods of sustainably farming fish and plants. Some of the plants grown in this area are actually used by Disney - served in restaurants near the ride/tour. (Fun Fact: This ride produces roughly 1% of food served throughout Walt Disney World.) Photographs are permitted. I would recommend this tour to anyone who wants to learn more about hydroponics, innovative farming techniques, eco-friendly pest controls, etc. Young children may not enjoy it as much as older individuals because it is less "hands on."
