Michael was a wonderful DJ during our spring wedding in Ramona, CA! He had all of our guests dancing and enjoying themselves throughout the entire reception. His presentation skills during announcements were phenomenal. Announcements were a BIG things for my husband and I, due to the fact that we've been to so many weddings recently where the DJ's come off as either bored or rather cheesy. You won't have to worry about anything along those lines if you hire Michael. His voice was extremely confident and engaging during the entire wedding. We did things a bit differently and didn't have first dances with our parents. Michael was completely fine with our requests, and was able to lay things out where people didn't even notice! We had our ceremony, first dance, and dinner outside, while our dancing and cake cutting was held inside. Michael was flexible with transitioning in the middle of the night without any problems. We received so many compliments about the music played at our wedding. As much as I want to take credit for the music, I have to give all the props to Michael. What a rockstar. I'm a little embarrassed to reveal how I came across Behind the DJ Booth but I feel like Yelp is a safe place so...I googled "Orange County indie wedding DJ" and "Orange County hipster wedding DJ." This meta moment of self realization of what kind of couple my husband and I make, the type of music we listen to and the vibe we wanted for our wedding - as embarrassing as my google search history might be - led us to Michael and his wealth of music knowledge and uncompromising talent. Before the wedding, we communicated with Michael via telephone, email and in person to go over our musical tastes, our "do not play" songs/artists and other nuances to the ceremony and reception. At the wedding, Michael was on top of his game (showed up early, set up in a breeze, sound checked with members of the bridal party that performed during the ceremony and reception, and got EVERYONE dancing). The best part was when Michael took time to come visit me and my husband to congratulate us. On top of being a great dj, Michael is also super personable and overall just a great dude. He truly is a jack of all trades and can play nasty nasty music (twerking, put my thing down, flip it and reverse it, back that azz up), indie rock, Filipino line dancing music, and obscure French new age dance music - I speak from experience because we requested and Michael played all of that at our wedding. Our wedding day went by in a blur but whenever we had the small, slowed down moments to enjoy our evening, Michael provided the most perfect soundtrack to the best day of our lives. Michael DJ'd our wedding in November of 2011. Our first impression of Mike was that he was extremely professional, organized and accommodating to our nuanced requests. His approach to our initial conversation showed that he was extremely knowledgeable to the services and progression of how weddings transition and he was very detailed in the questions he asked us which shows that he's been around the block a few times. During the day of, Michael came to the event right on time, impeccably dressed and ready to set up. No nonsense...straight business. Our guests really enjoyed the music during dinner and dancing and he helped move the wedding along smoothly with no rough patches in between. Michael was very kind and pleasant to work with during the planning process. He was flexible and provided good feedback during our in-person meeting. Unfortunately there were three issues that did not sit well with us. We discussed everything at our meeting including the do not play list he had us put together. Our DNP list had about a dozen songs and were told there is no way they will be played. I specifically asked him if the songs on the DNP list would be played if someone requested them and I was assured they wouldn't be. Unfortunately there were a number of the songs on our DNP list that were played on our wedding night. I counted 3 but there my have been more. I find the songs more annoying then anything so it wasn't the end of the world but what is the point of having a DNP list and reassuring me they would not be played when you are going to end up playing them? Secondly, during our in-person meeting before our wedding we discussed the mother-son dance. My wife requested a shortened version of a song with her dad, but I made very clear that I wanted to have the entire song I selected to play during the mother-son dance. I had made that decision early on and never changed my mind so there wasn't any miscommunication. So as my mother and I were sharing our moment together on the dance floor the music starts to fade out about half way into the song and his assistant, who was the master of ceremonies, started talking as if to wrap things up. I actually had to wave him off and tell him to get off the floor so my mother and I could finish our dance. Ruined the moment. Not happy. Third issue involves professionalism. Michael had a professional presentation but his assistant maybe wanted to enjoy himself as well because he was hitting on some of our guests and even gave one of them his number. You're a vendor. We paid you to do a job and do it professionally until 11pm. Perhaps his duties for the night ended once the dancing started but I don't want to hear about one of our vendors hitting on guests. Just a personal opinion. In terms of keeping the dance floor going he was phenomenal! We had a large group out there until the very end of the night. My parents said there was a couple songs like the "bubble butt" song that were a little too inappropriate. The speaker made some screeching noises but that's probably because person using the mike was too close or wasn't using it properly. read more

We couldn't have asked for a better dj/mc for our wedding 2 weeks ago. We were pretty particular with the vibe we were going for and Michael made the whole process seamless and stress free. Not only was he super professional, but he totally understood what we were going for and added some great tunes to match. His music knowledge is immense and we even took a few minutes to talk about some of the jams we grew up listening to and how they blow all the current stuff out of water. Our venue threw a few curveballs our way with very strict setup/takedown times and even other restrictions on where he could set up and how loud things should be, but Michael was always accommodating and nothing seemed to faze him at all. It definitely took a lot off of our plate and he made sure that we didn't have to worry about anything related to music or emceeing. He made sure to arrive early and also stayed late to clean up. All the guests at the wedding kept coming up to me all night to let me know the music was amazing and that the DJ was putting on some great stuff. How can I thank this guy enough! Michael did an amazing job at our wedding! First off let me start by saying I called Michael a couple days before the wedding and went through all the music selection. Then due to a personal issue my wife and I had we called him last minute to cancel. The next morning we called him back and told him the wedding was back on! That was on the day of the wedding! Through the whole process Michael was very patient, kind and understanding and made it happen! He arrived 2 hours early and had all his own equipment. His music selections were exactly what we wanted if not better. Everyone on the dance floor had a great time. We had special requests for the bridal party to be introduced and he worked that to perfection! The here comes the bride music was perfectly on cue when my wife walked down the isle. I heard Michael play at a company event of 1000 employees and I was going to be presenting an award with a coworker. I was able to talk with him prior to the event regarding his business and what he offers and what the process looks like. After a few minutes of talking with him I asked if he could play a certain song for me as my coworker and I walked up to present an award. He laughed at first but then said it would not be a problem and he did it for me. Throughout the awards banquet I was able to see his talent. Michael is amazing!! Since we planned our wedding from Memphis our first meeting was via FaceTime, he was so helpful through the music selection process. The first thing he said to us was, "I have been in your shoes and I know how important this day is", which was comforting. He really made process fun and easy!! My family is very hard to please and he got everyone on the dance floor, and they danced the entire time. Our guests raved about how much their feet hurt the day after. Hands down Michael and Ryan are DJ/MCs ! I received so many compliments on the music and how interactive they were with all the guests! They dressed so professionally and just made me feel extremely comfortable as a bride. I knew they were on top of everything and they were great at keeping me on the schedule. I loved that they came out on the dance floor a few times and gave my guests the microphone and got to sing their hearts out. I LOVED that Michael even took really awesome artistic photos and posted them on his Instagram and used our hashtag so I was able to have his photos and videos from their point of view.
