What a great time it has been! We have two young dogs that needed a little extra training. We had been thinking about doing the training for a bit before deciding to move forward with it. Some of our reservations on doing the training were that we didn't know their experience with terriers and their temperaments, and we didn't know how often they dealt with small breeds. Most of their online presence showed a lot of larger breeds. We met with staff and went back and forth on moving forward with the camp. What ultimately made our decision were a couple of things. We use Jet Sets for boarding, and fully trust their staff, and we ended up seeing a small breed going through their training in one of their online posts. These things helped make our decision for us, and we're so glad that we did it! For all of you small breed owners, yes, they do work with small breeds! We were recommend Unleash Fido by several people. We scheduled an hour long consultation with Travis who ended up giving us 90 minutes of his time to learn about Lily and discuss their program. Lily had several issues, such as pulling on the leash, lunging at cars, barking at people + other dogs and going absolutely crazy when Amazon/UPS was delivering a package. Ultimately, we booked Lily into their month-long Obedience Training Camp. After receiving weekly report cards that contained photos, videos and a brief update on how the last week was, we were finally ready to pick-up Lily. Our first time picking her up was also our first training with her. We worked on establishing place, having her heel while walking, and working on other things around distractions. Within the first 24 hours back at home, our investment in this training payed dividends. It was mortifying to watch. Any one on planet earth can train a dog by scaring them into submission. Id do whatever you wanted me to do too if you put one of those collars around my neck and constantly "snatched" (his words) it. After speaking at length on the phone with Mr. White, he encouraged me to come down to the park, where he was having a session. I came, and I was a little taken aback by his training style. Mr. White seems to rely on the Alpha-dog school of thought and advocated the use of pinch style collar. I simply observed for a while, and at his suggestion, bought a pinch collar and tried the session for a bit. At the end of the session, he asked me my impressions and then asked me for a check for the classes. I was unaware the classes were paid, as this was not indicated on the Events website, and he never mentioned any price in our phone conversations nor while meeting in person before the session. He seemed annoyed and then tried to get me to pay him something for his 'time' that day. I refused and I left with a very bad taste in my mouth. If not only for his teaching style but also for what occurred afterwards. I returned the horrible pinch collar and sought out gentler training methods.
