My family has been at BY since my son (now 6 yrs old) was 15 months old. He has since "graduated" and is in 1st grade, while my daughter is currently in the toddler 2 classroom (she started as an infant). We have been very happy with BY over the years, and still make the drive from Medway each day to bring my daughter to/from BY. I think the best park of BY are the amazing teachers! Each classroom has a special group of teachers that are just wonderful and have really become an extension of our family. My two children are enrolled at Beginning Years, in the preschool and toddler full-day programs. I cannot say enough good things about the Center, its staff, and its director. The staff is fantastic. They're all very competent, patient, and loving. My older child has a flair for the dramatic, but they handle her sometimes grandiose tantrums calmly and lovingly. They have a very stable staff; remarkably low turnover compared to most program. This was very important to me. When your children spend close to 30 hours a week somewhere, it needs to feel safe, secure, comfortable. High levels of turnover would make that impossible. My children are very attached to their teachers. The curriculum at the center is exemplary. They use a lot of targeted play that allows children to learn and develop skills while enjoying themselves. For example, in any given day, my kids look forward to playing in the sensory table ( filled with anything from coffee beans to shaving cream), the imaginative play area (that is set up as a grocery store this week and a doctor's office the next), outside on the play ground, taking a field trip to the post office, having the music lady / yoga lady / tumble bus come, meeting in small groups to work on counting skills, and more. Another feature that was very important to me when I was selecting a center was NAEYC accreditation. It's hard to compare programs; you should be able to hear positive things about any center, and it's hard to know you found a good one until you're already entrenched. But NAEYC accredited programs are relatively few. This accreditation was important to me for two reasons. A) you can't get that accreditation unless your curriculum is up to the association's high standards, and B) it is a lot of work to get and maintain, and thus shows that the center believes that "good enough" really isn't good enough; that they want excellence. The program is top-notch. I adore BY. Even more importantly, my children adore BY. More days than not, my daughter is disappointed when I come to pick her up. I hear "No, I'm not ready to go. We're just about to read another story/go outside/dance/ play in the imaginative play area." For me, that says everything. read more

Choosing Beginning Years as our daycare and preschool provider was one of the best choices we made in our family's relocation to Medfield. BY was our children's home away from home and they thrived there. The concern and attention for every child (and their family) feels genuine and personalized. They have shown time and again that they understand the unpredictability of life, particularly with young children involved, and their attention to individualized needs is top priority. Some examples from our experience are: supporting our first born at his initial introduction to day care, as we moved to a new town/home and our second child was born, social supports around shyness and anxiety, assistance with bizarre food aversions, and a delayed transition out of diapers. They embraced both our children at whatever developmental place they were in and lovingly, consistently, and proactively supported their growth. We love that Beginning Years is NAEYC accredited, they provide professional development for their staff and are tuned into to the latest in early childhood development/education. The owner/director participates at all levels of the school, and spends time in every classroom each week to maintain a connection with the teachers, kids, and parents. This isn't just a business for her, it is a passion. When our first child "graduated", we were appreciative of the school's connection with the Medfield schools. They helped our kids with their transition to Kindergarten: identifying academic strengths and potential areas of need, understanding our kids' social and emotional needs and connections, and facilitating dialogue and understanding directly with the kids about their transition ahead. My husband and I have felt embraced as part of the BY community since day one and have always appreciated the flexibility and acceptance of our varying degrees of involvement. There were stretches where we were totally depleted and had little or no time or energy to get more involved. As our life settled and we wanted to be more involved we helped out in the classroom occasionally. Eventually we decided to be part of the program's Parent Board (a means for parents to support and communicate with the school). The Parent Board also gave us more opportunity to connect with other families at BY, many of whom are our best friends now. The decision for childcare/preschool is a personal one and I respect that families' have diverse needs and priority. Appropriately so, no school will be the right fit for everyone. That said, I genuinely believe that Beginning Years has the capacity, insight, and commitment to be an asset for almost any family that comes their way. read more

For those looking for child care in and around Medfield you need to look at Beginning Years~ I love this school!!! It provides a wonderful learning and social environment for my daughter in the pre-school room and son in the toddler program. Both of our children are extremely happy at the school. Each day they return home with wonderful stories!! It is my favorite part of the day. All the teachers are amazing and truly care for each child as if they were their own. They have a great teacher/ child ratio as well. Each parent has different requirements for childcare, for us we really wanted to find a place that exuded warmth and love. A place that became part of our family. BY provides that feeling to us. Their is a very personal connection with the all the teachers. At seven months we found out my son has sever food allergies, the owner, director, and the entire classroom staff had an action plan in place within one day. They continue to look for ways to keep my son safe as well as making sure he is not missing out on any of the social parts of the program. As a full time working parent it is hard to leave your child, especially one with food allergies. Each day I am blessed to know our children are in great hands. BY was the perfect fit for our family. Both my children go full time to Beginning Years in Medfield and I have to say they both love going there! I know we made the right choice in this school when they come home and tell me all their wonderful stories about their day. Seeing how excited they are in the morning getting ready for school also solidifies our choice. The facility is awesome and provides so many ways for our children to play and learn and explore. The teachers and other staff are all wonderful and you can see how much they genuinely care for every child. The school also does an excellent job of keeping parents updated on daily, weekly and monthly events and learning exercises. This really helps as a parent knowing what our children are learning and helping us to make sure they are prepared for each days' event. The staff has also been great answering all our questions and helping to educate me as a parent in how my children are developing. They go above and beyond with providing my wife and I helpful tips we can use at home. My favorite things are the family events, like the pizza party and summer concert. It gives us the chance to see our children interact with their teachers and friends in a way we might normally not get to see. A little glimpse into their everyday life at BY. We also get to meet all the other parents of BY children, which is great. It really helps build a community atmosphere involving all families. Plus these could end up being our children's lifelong friends so it's really nice getting the families together so the parents can get to know each other. BY is the best choice we could have made for a school for our children. You will not be disappointed! read more
