I decided to go to this brand new spot before work on a Tuesday morning. It is off the beaten path, so be sure to look for the subtle logo that hangs above the door. For locals and craft beer enthusiasts, Beet Box is located right next to Log Boat brewery. Upon entering the door I was embraced with positive vibes. The playlist was great, the aesthetic is very modern chic. I love the forest of indoor plants that offer a very clean and green look to the restaurant. I was immediately greeted by the owner who offered me a menu to review. I decided to go with the Bodega BEC, and Lamb and Eggs. The bodega wad an item I came across on Instagram and knew I had to try. The lamb and eggs is an off menu item that I had heard raves about from other patrons. The bodega is a sandwich made on a house baked roll, with a fried egg, thick cut bacon and American cheese. The bread was definitely the star! ($6) The lamb and eggs is phenomenal! The dish begins with fried eggs, topped with a lamb patty. This was paired with a yogurt sauce, and a spicy green sauce, that should be bottled and sold. The dish is finished with greens and a freshly baked flat bread. ($13) I ordered my food to go. It was packaged with care and still very warm when I got to work. I highly recommend Beet Box as a great start to your work day. I plan on visiting for brunch soon. read more

I didn't want to like it here. I was turned off by its pretentiousness, annoyed that they didn't have a real sign labeling their business (instead, there is a neon sign with an abstraction of a cross-section of a beet ). The menu also felt obnoxious to me, with tiny clipboards housing one word names of foods, with no descriptions, and no specials to be seen anywhere in the building. Accessing their website to view the day's specials and available items was much more convenient. I ordered the chicken special (they were out of pop tarts which I'd been interested in trying), then went to use the restroom. Got to the back to be confronted by three near-identical, unmarked white doors. After turning some handles, encountering an HVAC system, a locked door, and a miniature keypad, I was completely over this place. Then, I got in the bathroom and fell in love with the wallpaper, which appeared to be a cliched French toile from afar, but had pics of brooklyn things on closer inspection. I walked out with a slightly better attitude, and then was entranced with the variety of carefully curated plants. When Tyler's Wilshire started playing, I knew I was about to fall in love. My food came out, and it tasted incredible. The perfect mix of flavors, okra that was perfectly charred, new potatoes roasted to that wonderful mix of crisp outside with creamy center, perfectly tender and juicy chicken, with fresh marinated cukes to even out the richness,everything was great. We live in St. Louis but have family in Kansas City so we make the trip often. We've been looking for a decent midway food stop for the travel and this has blown us out of the water. On Sundays there always seems to be a brunch special that changes and the first time we went it was sold out. So we got all the other side/entree options. We were so pleasantly surprised! The place itself was stylish and cool with outdoor seating. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. And the food came out quick! I have eaten here many times. The menu is very eclectic. There is an emphasis on freshness and there are lots of options for vegetarians. The service is always good and friendly and the motif is perhaps best described as modern industrial diner with outside seating. I do have one negative for them and it is that I just spent $3 per donut for what to my taste was the worst Bavarian Cream donut I've ever had in my life. It was thick, almost biscuit like and the cream was mostly tasteless, like it had been made with fat free milk or something. My wife tried another donut they had out last month and didn't enjoy it either. So with the sole caveat of avoid the donuts, it is really hard to go wrong at the Beet Box. read more

Um... Did someone say chicken schwarma?! In Columbia, Missouri?! I'll tell you what, this is my new favorite restaurant in town!! I've had falafel before and it was good, but Beet Box was amazing! The food is fresh and delicious. The service is fast and friendly. The location is small, but they have free parking and outdoor seating! I mean, come on! The wife and I stopped by here for lunch on our second day-date without the kids since the beginning of the pandemic on a recommendation from a friend. I ordered the koobideh wrap with Za'atar fries, while my wife got the chicken schwarma with their garden salad. We wanted to try the hummus bowl, but we were so full, we'll have go back to try that one! Their koobideh meat was super tender and the wrap had a real flavorful beet sauce that really kicked it a notch! The schwarma was even better! The chicken was real juicy and tender, and it had these little apple slices in it that were a pleasant surprise! Now, about these fries, good Lord they were a meal in their own right! So crispy and whatever the seasoning is I do not know, but it was so good we finished the entire plate!! Oh and they make their own soda, I was skeptical at first, but their Za'atar tonic was also very good!! We stopped here for breakfast on a road trip. It is some of the most flavorful homemade food I've ever had. I Has the hummus bowl which came with a perfectly soft boiled egg. My husband got the breakfast burrito and loved it. I asked the chef what was in the hummus bowl. The chicken was tender and flavorful the wrap also had some tabouli which gave it a nice minty flavor and an unusual twist of bacon which provided the sandwich a nice crunch. I went to Beet Box because I had a hankering for Mediterranean fast food, preferably Arabic or Turkish. I ordered the falafel wrap and the hummus plate ($27 for both - falafel wraps in Europe are about three euros). Both of those were OK, but I really didn't care for them personally (which is not a judgment on Beet Box or their food - taste is subjective, which is why I rated them four stars instead of two or three). There were so many different ingredients and spices - carrots, cucumbers, beets, apples, that I didn't feel like I could taste the hummus or falafel themselves. I find this to be rather common with American businesses that sell Middle Eastern food - there are too many separate ingredients (for my taste). Many of them hippies, they are nice people and truly committed to bringing healthy food to their customers - and the customers were raving about the food. It's a decent place to eat, but if you are someone looking for authentic Mediterranean food, it's probably best to find a Middle Eastern mom and pop shop. read more
