If you are visiting Sebastopol and would like to get your loved ones from home some "wow" gifts/souvenirs...I highly recommend Beekind!!! I have seriously "wowed" some friends in Los Angeles with their essential oil infused candles and other goodies! Even a couple loved ones/friends FROM Sonoma county, were in love with their handmade gifts and again "wowed", lol! Love it! Love this store!!! Check it out!!! Their honey is delicious but they have so many other cool things, too. I got a couple of their beeswax candles and I AM SOLD. Cannot go back to other types of candles after using these. They burn clean (no soot) and they last a really long time. More than anything though, is that they smell AMAZING. Why don't you "Bee" what the name implies.....KIND. It's a shame that the shopping experience here leaves one feeling less than stellar when buying local. The selection of honey, bee keeping supplies, and gifts is really wonderful. That being said, the help here is less than adequate. The past few times I've come in to purchase honey, I am greeted with a heavy vibe and sour attitude from the shop girls. Not sure exactly why they appear to be so miserable. They're lucky to have a job. It almost feels like they're doing me a favor by being there. So much fun. Honey, skin care, candlemaking supplies, soaps, beekeeping supplies, and a jaw dropping assortment of beautifully molded candles. Buy all the things, then say hello to the bees outside. I love that this store exists! I have bought honey here on multiple occasions because I have really bad allergies in Sebastopol and use local honey to help with the symptoms. I love that I have this option! Not to mention that the honey is delicious and fair priced and I love that I'm helping the local economy. They have honey sticks but they are not local honey, but from Oregon, I wish they would have local honey sticks too! I can't wait to try their beeswax candles. If you go you have to do the honey tasting and you have to check out the back room! I never knew how much goes into beekeeping and all the cool tools that have been made to support this craft. My Husband and I just finished a great bee keeping class with Doug from Bee Kind, and we couldn't bee happier! HA! My Husband and I had a great time, as Doug really knows his stuff, and is quite an intelligent, affable guy. He was able to keep our interest completely for 4 hours! We gained some of the knowledge we needed, and felt comfortable enough with what we learned to go over to the store to buy our set up. We live over an hour and a half away from Sebastopol, but it's such a cool, laid back town, that I knew it was where I first wanted to learn a little about "wranglin' them bees". Katia helped us get everything together, which took a bit of time, as my Husband was on a roll. She explained what she was doing the whole time. She stayed waaaaay past closing, and was very cool with us annoying(we were)newbee's. Hee! I can't resist! Beelieve me! We also received 10% off of our bee supplies, all because we attended the FREE class-it doesn't get better than that! Katia told us they are always there for us, and that Doug answers his email every morning, and to feel free to email him with questions. This store is one of the most wonderful on the planet. In the first of two rooms, there are gifts from the hive. Heavily weighted between beeswax products and various types of honey, the shelves are filled with beautiful gifts and treasures made mostly by bees. While they make perfect gifts, I find a wonderful way to entertain includes a fun selection of different honeys (served on toothpicks or single dipped almonds) for my wine-tasting-type friends. The second part of the store is more industrial, and for a select few, is even more awesome than the main store. It provides a one stop shop for beekeeping gear and even better, has a knowledgeable staff to coach beginning beekeepers in this area, and is blessed to have some beekeeping products that are designed by well respected members within the small community of beekeepers. Entering my 5th year of serious beekeeping, I'm blown away by the superior (gear) designs as I keep my bees as organically as I can. Finally, the owners of this store are the essence of splendid, doing their best to make a difference and providing the best local option in the ENTIRE north bay. If you're rolling through, and care to spend a moment in the wonders of the honeybee, this store is both educational and experiential, brightening my day every time I visit. Make a stop here every time we are in the area. This place is amazing!!! They sell everything a person could need to start harvesting their own honey. And the products they sell (lotions, soaps, candles, candy) are the best around. And the honey??? Pure deliciousness. I'm convinced they have every kind of honey made by every kind of bee out there. Each flavor of honey has its own unique profile. There are really sweet honeys, flavored honeys (lavender, buckwheat, etc.) and LOTS of regional honeys. They also have the BEST creamed honey out there. And you can even sample any and every honey they sell. So why the FOUR stars? I knocked one star off for the inconsistent staff. We've been here 4 times and some of the staff are nice; some are not very friendly. This past visit, there was an older lady who seemed a little put-off by the people who stopped in and she wasn't very helpful when I and other patrons requested something. The younger gal who worked there was very sweet and helpful. But, we will continue to shop here when we are in the area...we'll just try to avoid the no-so-friendly employees. read more

Beekind is one of my favorite stores. The employees there are great at helping me find what I need when ever i come in for something. I was surprised to find any negative yelp reviews. My guess is that the people who wrote those reviews are oversensitive and impossible to please. I laughed when I read the one about the person who brought their children in and expected the store owners to watch them. Sebastopol is full of great parks!! Super nice staff. I have bought hives, tools, clothing, frames to start my first hive this spring. It is a great resource and quick trip off of HWY 12 from the 101. I like that I can buy all of the bits and pieces. They are well stocked and have the largest and best Inventory in the Bay Area. I Picked up my Bees in April. The Pick Up event was fun and exciting. My Bees have done great and I harvested 30 lbs of honey with 200 lbs left in my 2 deep boxes. Only comment I would make is Doug encouraged us to not use "smoke" nor recommended gloves when working the hive boxes. This was a major failure for me ss a "new-bee." 4 simultaneous stings later.... I adopted these practices immediately after releasing my Queen. read more

We had been shopping here ever since they first opened. At that time, almost all of the local honey was $12 a quart jar. Years later, the prices jumped over a short period of time, within a year, from 12 to 14 & then to $18 a quart, then the quarts disappeared altogether. They remodeled the store & now there's more beekeeping supplies than there is honey, especially local honey. Now it's mostly smaller jars at higher prices, & 1 huge size for big families, or big black bears. Like so many places in $ebastopol in the last 5 years, this is just one more store that's gone to the dogs & the tourists, both the same. They should've just moved to the barlow, to be with all the rest of the greedy piggies that are there! read more

AWFUL service, I left in tears after the comment: "Well, it is a shame that you don't need a license to buy bees" We had already committed to purchasing the hive, so we still spent over $1000 at their store, and even though I shared my experience with the owner at the checkout, she gave no discount and only half-hearted sympathy. Yes, the shop is cute. Yes, the honey was great. Yes, the bees are thriving after a year and supplies were well made, if not expensive. I will never return, there are plenty of other places I would rather drive to then go to such a mean and unkind business. I can't believe they are still open. read more

I love the capay valley wildflower honey made by beekind. The honey is so sweet its a dessert all its own! I also like their yummy honey taffy! The price of the honey is also great! I got a pound jar for 12 bucks! DEAL! I actually stopped in trying to find honeywine, which they do not sell, but I was very glad to have tried, because this place is a gem. The staff was friendly and helpful. The free samples were great and helped immensely in deciding which types to buy. The prices were very reasonable, and the selection was large. The workers behind the counter are attentive, but not *too* attentive and not pushy; they have great products; the store smells great; and they have loads of bee supplies! This place is pricey. What's more I like just everything in there so darn if pricey doesn't equate danger enter at your own risk. I have picked up great reads "The Queen Must Die and other tales of Bees and Men" honey covered nuts for Christmas stockings, wax candles, chap sticks and personal products as well as honey! They let you taste test and over local varieties from particular flower sources like lavender or heather as well as imports from Hawaii. I am not an expert but the folks behind the counter are and they will let you dottle or help learn the difference between raw, or filtered or whatnot (apparently I already need a refresh tasting) anyway it's easy to get to with street parking being the easiest way to get in and out. read more

I came here on the recommendation from a local because I was having severe allergies since I came to sonoma county. The guy working here is really cool and professional and they have a large selection of local made honey that you can try. I was really disappointed in the customer service. As a "Newbee", I had hoped I would have received a more understanding, helpful response while shopping for my hive supplies. I could have shopped online like so many other beekeepers I know do, but I thought I'd support a local business instead. The guy that helped me could have cared less about assisting me with questions on what items to purchase. He was downright rude. I happen to own a retail store in Sonoma Co and if my staff were to treat our customers in the manner in which this employee did, they would not have a job for long. Doug, you need to train your staff to be more helpful and courteous. I had very bad allergies and stopped in for bee pollen. The employee showed me jars on the shelf and said they were from the Mount rainier Washington area (about $12) I specifically said "no, that's too far away I need local bee pollen" He went and back into refrigerator and came out with a tub of Bee pollen (about $14) After using a spoon full day for seven days and losing a day at work because I was so overcome by allergies, I read the fine print on the top you gave me and it is only "100% U.S. BEE POLLEN" It could be from anywhere in the United States nobody knows. I think it was more important for him to make that one sale that was to create a customer for life. I went to the local farmers market and bought some local bee pollen from Fulton Ca. I feel better now, NO THANKS TO BEE KIND. read more

This place must be even better if you are a beekeeper (you can even order bees from this store). For those of us who are not into apiary, there is a honey sampling station with 25+ types of honey to sample. I had to stop myself from buying a four pound jar of honey because I recently purchased four pounds of honey from a roadside stand last month. There were great candles and other honey products such as royal jelly, lotion, lip balm, soap, and other things. The Naked Bee is one of a number of good brands of bee products. Out back as we drove away we noticed a number of bee hives and a flower garden - how sweet. read more

Oh Beekind...How I do I love thee... I discovered Beekind in 2009 when I decided my new hobby was to save the world and become a beekeeper. I buy everything here, all of my beekeeping supplies. I can order it online somewhere else and probably get it cheaper, but I love this little store so much I keep finding reasons to take the drive from Napa to Sebastopol a couple times a month, even in the off season I am still there. I am head over heels in love with my girls and the staff at Beekind all feel the same way about our little buzzing friends. Doug (owner) is a "well full" of knowledge and if I am lucky enough to corner him when I am there I hang on every word because the man knows his bee's. Katia (owner) is very sweet, knowledgeable and always a huge help getting me everything I need. Coral (sp?) what can I say... is fabulous as well, as I've called a couple times flustered because my swarm collecting doesn't always go as planned and his tips have helped me capture more than one swarm. Other than beekeeping supplies they have A LOT of different honey, candles, candies, truffles, natural homeopathic remedies from bee products, propolis, fresh pollen and everything else to do with bee's. A bonus is they are open 7 days a week and Sebastopol is a great little town to shop for antiques. Love you guys! read more

Great selection of bee keeping supplies and gear. Wonderful place to try and taste honey and purchase bee's wax based products. However, the customer service in this store is lacking. Nobody is outright rude, but they are not very helpful or friendly. Wish there were people who worked in this store who could be passionate about helping others learn and explore the world of bees and bee keeping. I love support local businesses, however they have to keep the customers coming back and give them a better experience than shopping online. Next time I'll just order the supplies I need on the internet and have the same customer service experience. I can see that I'm not the only person to say this about the Beekind staff. Hopefully management will take a look at what we have to say and make some serious changes in staffing or give them some friendliness and helpfulness training. read more
