They are small, and I brought one home a few months ago that after a few days I had to toss (after I realized) and also risked all my other plants. I stopped by early January and the tiny white fluffy mealy bugs were still very much visible. Really hope they fix this issue as I would happily spend a lot of money at this place!! Always fun to stop in. Staff don't really acknowledge your presence, but I actually prefer/don't mind that aspect. Please fix the mealy bugs situ so I can bring some orchid babies home!!!!

Located just south of Stanford, off of Alpine Road and Highway 280 in the South Bay (Portola…read moreValley), Brookside Orchids carries a large inventory of healthy orchids in many varieties. This is not a florist, it is a nursery with a specific focus on orchids. It was a little hard to find the first time I went there, but it was worth it. This place was made for orchid enthusiasts. They always have a huge selection of Phalaenopsis varieties (everyone does) in different sizes (miniatures and giants), but they also regularly carry Oncidium, Miltonia, Cattleya, and Dendrobium orchids. I have also found some gorgeous Paphiopedilum and Vendaeous specimens as well as many others, and the occasional surprisingly exotic and spectacular botanical. You can get beautiful potted gift orchids here, but their main focus is on growing orchids of all types and selling to both wholesale & retail customers and orchidists. If you like orchids, and are looking for rare and unusual finds, this is the place to go. To find them, follow your phone's map and you'll be led to a modest and understated sign with an arrow pointing up a hill. Proceed slowly and carefully up the hill and park to the left. You'll see 4 quonset hut-like buildings (green houses) and need to start in the left-most, which is their retail shop and has a sign on the door welcoming you. The right-most greenhouse is also open to the public, the two in the middle are not (they are growing greenhouses full of orchids that are not yet spiking). Keep in mind this is a working wholesale nursery, with a retail outlet attached (with better gift orchids than any florist), and not a flower shop, and you'll understand why it has a no-frills, utilitarian, green & organic, light-industrial feel to it. Once you get inside, you'll realize what a find this place is, with the best selection of healthy, thriving, beautiful orchids (many of which are unusual and rare) in the Bay Area. Oh, yeah - they're very reasonably priced as well!

Juliana's vision is that your backyard should be an extension of your home, another room. Working with Juliana was wonderful. She listened to our ideas and came up with an initial plan that we tweaked a couple times until we had a final design . It is now a space we are drawn to and use often. It truly is an extension of our home. Juliana and Mauricio (who she works with on the hardscape) did a wonderful job in transforming our yard. Communication with her was excellent. She stayed on budget and the only work order changes were a result of our wanting something different from the original plans. She has a great knowledge of plants and design. I would highly recommend her.

We did not proceed with developing plans, but the verbal estimate to get the work done was going to be $70-100K. We will be spending $30-50K with a different landscaper. So my perception is that Terra Rubina is very expensive. For the $250 bill, I tried to pay by Venmo. Venmo required last 4 digits of phone number in order to process the payment. I emailed asking for the last 4 digits of their phone number and did not hear back, so I didn't pay. Two weeks later I received a very rude and confrontational email hounding me for payment and threatening a late fee. I have seen back yards done by Terra Rubina. They are beautiful. If you want high quality work, and don't mind being bullied, and you're willing to pay a steep price, then maybe Terra Rubina is for you. They're not for me.

But don't expect them to bring the tree into your house or get it out of your house without tracking in dirt from their dolly. They prefer curbside delivery and pickup but never mention this when you initially place the order. I had to request that they clean the wheels on their dolly when they dropped off the tree so that they wouldn't track dirt inside. They seemed surprised by my request. Really? This is your whole business. You should have a roll of drop cloths or butcher paper you lay down to bring the tree in the house so you have ZERO risk of tracking in dirt. And when Eric, the owner, arrived to pick up the tree (after many many texts and calls and hours later than expected btw), he rolled right over my carpet with dirt caked to the wheels of his dolly and left dirty tracks across it. When I incredulously asked him how he usually gets trees out of people's homes without tracking dirt all over their carpets, he was emphatic that removing the tree from its spot in your home is not part of the service. Ok, then 1) that should have been made ABUNDANTLY clear to me upon renting the tree from you. 2) Since you rolled the tree into my home, it is reasonable for me to expect you to roll it out of my home. 3) I told you multiple times over text that the tree was too big, too heavy, and too prickly for me to get out of my house on my own, so you should have come prepared to remove it from my home with minimal mess and attitude. But the kicker was really that when I pointed out that he'd gotten "mud" all over my carpet, instead of apologizing, he debated semantics with me and insisted it was "just dirt" on my carpet, not "mud." Lastly, while struggling to remove the tree from my home, it caught on my entryway carpet and started dragging it along with it. He frustratedly yanked my entryway carpet up and out of the way and draped it over my COUCH. Gross! Like dude... you bring Christmas tree rentals into and out of people's homes for a LIVING! Streamline your system so you don't leave a mess in your wake! Either that, or tell everyone up front that you ONLY deliver and pick up curbside. But don't give me attitude because I need your help removing the tree or that I'm upset because you tracked mud - sorry DIRT - all over my carpet!
