I've always imagined him as my perfect family dentist that I would take my future family to. I have been going to him for about 5 years. He has always taken great care and attention to my teeth and has never suggested services that I didn't need. My appointments are always on time. One day I had a horrible bicycle accident, resulting in a very badly broken tooth/broken nose/concussion. After the hospital, I went directly to Dr. Kataria and he took me in immediately and looked after my tooth. I'm so grateful for his kindness and attention to detail - no one can ever guess I have a crown on one of my front teeth!! And it hasn't given me any issues once he put it in. Dr. Kataria is fantastic - I would recommend him to anyone!!

As someone who is born and raised in Oakville, I can say that nowadays a good, honest, transparent…read moredentist is difficult to find in this town. Understanding the inconsistency of the dental industry is crucial, and it's a perspective that I believe needs to be shared. I acknowledge the knowledge of this dental team and the cleanliness of the office with its modern equipment. However, it's important to also consider the patient's perspective in order to bring about the necessary changes. My concern is the "cost to do business, authenticity and transparency." Here, you cannot get your teeth cleaned without a full consult from the dentist first, multiple costly photos (from all angles!) and xrays, and this consult isn't just a "let's check to see the general health of your teeth," which is what I would expect and nothing more unless I ASKED for it. I do not care if I have a narrow jaw at 54 years of age...I am not a child that needs, wants or asked for reparative measures. I take extreme care of my teeth, and it shows (photo attached). I do not need SPECULATORY advice on why my 2nd last two molars failed me - I explained that I know exactly why...one reason was I was severely lacking nutrients after the birth of my child and simultaneously had 3 front teeth crumble...yet this was ignored in order to have me explore myofascial correction options because it was maybe due to my narrow jaw. The other molar issue I had was because another dentist removed all the enamel from my molar and crowned it unnecessarily (made a great amount of $$$ off this!); pain and sensitivity got so intense I developed a condition called condensing osteitis and told NEXT I needed a root canal...I went to my dental surgeon and had the entire tooth extracted. Trust was lost. The dental industry needs correction and transparency--it's a big problem. No one should leave a dentist's office paying $654 out of pocket when their intent was to get their teeth cleaned, and they get them cleaned regularly every 8 months, yet be told there were issues and a multitude of costly photos and x-rays taken without so much as a discussion on the cost of these. I had just undergone dental surgery 10 days ago and explained the sensitivity of my mouth (an old root canal extraction done by my excellent dental surgeon, not this dentist). This fact was ignored, and I sat in a dental chair for 3 1/4 hours to get a talking to about my narrow jaw and cleaning that was so severe that I felt empathy was not a part of this dental practice. I am still sore all over my body from the tension and pain I experienced from the cleaning. So, to those reading this, I wrote this so you know exactly what you're getting into beforehand and to help with transparency & consistency within an industry that needs more of it. The dental industry needs a huge revamp.

Her response and I quote: "you grind your teeth". She said nothing more, except that she would replace the crumbled crowns (ceramic) with fillings - no admission of any responsibility for the premature crown crumbling at all. If I had understood that thousands of dollars of crowns (+$10K) would soon crumble due to my alleged grinding (my spouse cannot verify any grinding by me), I would have discussed the crowns and use of a mouth guard with Dr. Bis. in detail. And, I would have liked to have been given the option of metal-based crowns instead of ceramic ones which apparently have a tendency to crumble sometimes. We have had nothing but excellent and cheerful service by all of Dr. Bis' dental hygienists and assistants over the many years, we would like to note. Both of us have felt that the business office (filing our insurance claims in a sloppy manner) and her attitude (she was not sensitive to those who had only partial coverage or were not wealthy) had changed over the years. (Earlier, a temp bridge installed by her kept falling out, resulting in several extra trips and eventually, I quit getting it re-installed.) When we attempted to discuss our concerns with her about my crowns and the claims filings, we were stonewalled, so I guess she didn't care about losing our patronage. We very rarely post negative reviews of any service, but we felt we should make an exception here.

I was told that I had to agree to IV sedation or they would not take out my wisdom teeth. I did not want to be put to sleep, because I was not comfortable with the idea of being unconscious. Dr. Barakat insisted that he would not perform the surgery in any other manner. In fact, he refused to provide the medical treatment I was seeking and sent me home when he wouldn't get his way. I found two other dental clinics who told me that IV sedation was not necessary. In fact, I went to another oral surgeon (not a general practitioner) located in Richmond Hill and had all of my wisdom teeth removed with only a local anesthetic (i.e. freezing) without any pain, complications or unnecessary sedation. The other clinic safely removed the teeth in a way where I could conveniently drive myself home afterwards, and deal with any recovery-pain with prescription painkillers. It was also half the medical fees that CVOS quoted me for the procedure. IV sedation has risks, costs, and side-effects, and if you want that, then great, but patients' rights and wishes should always be respected, which was not the case here. I will never go to this clinic for any dental services, and I would give my friends and family the same feedback.
