You better believe it's the real deal. A diamond in the rough. UP in the north suburbs of Madison Wisconsin. Believe me I was worried wether or not those liberal sissy's even ate meat. However the staff are some of the sweetest people you will meet. Every sentence ends with "my friend". And the barbecue... let me tell you it's amazing. Not only is the BBQ good but it's the extras: they serve beer, and fries... You need beer, and fries with good BBQ period... Do yourself a favor and try the brisket. (Blown away when they asked if I wanted a mix of fatty and lean... as if I had a choice...) Love these guys/gals read more

The brisket we ate was unfortunately extremely dry to the point that my group didn't eat all of it. The point of the brisket had a little fat, but we might have just had an over cooked piece that was very thin to begin with. We had to use bbq sauce in a 2:1 ratio to eat it. Fries were good for adults but too peppery for kids to eat it. The chicken wings were salty and seemed like ordinary fried chicken wings with salt and pepper. The best item we tried was the fried pork ribs which had decent flavor and moisture. But it was gone quickly as you pay by the pound and the quantities seemed a bit smaller after the order is made. If you are from Texas, I don't think you should have high expectations. However I think it's worth another try as I'm pretty sure they can make good meats if all the variables turn out right. They definitely have the equipment. read more

Excellent from start to finish! We went at dinner time and was treated very well.. 3 employees including the owner said thanks for coming in. Now for the food, it obvious that this place has studied how to make an award winning style BBQ. We also had some of their frozen meats to take home also excellent.. read more

Very tasty brisket and pulled pork. The Apple Pie baked beans and jalapeño corn bread was also really good.

The brisket is fantastic! The sides...I expected a bit more from. This place is advertised all around town as the #1 BBQ spot and honestly, if you go off the brisket it is. That is mostly the reason for the 4 stars, but otherwise ambiance is cute, staff are super friendly, but the most important part of food leaves a bit to be desired. I say stick with the brisket and everything else you can probably leave where it's at. read more

So I guess it all depends on your expectations on this one. If you desire we'll cooked, prime tasting brisket or pulled pork... than this place isn't for you. Now if you're okay with previously frozen sides that adequately provide you with dinner than yes. Brisket is a 2 out of 10 and pulled pork was a 6. Sauce was not terrible and I refuse to rate the I thawed sides. The biggest problem is that this food is priced as if it were a higher end bbq joint. The food pictured was $22. The search continues... read more

Beef Butter, what to say besides I dream about the food here... I had the honor of living across the street a few years ago but have since moved away. Whenever I am in town for work, I always make a point to stop by, have a meal and bring to-go food back to my husband who is eagerly waiting for the most delicious brisket (you can request fatty or lean), ribs, and apple pie brisket baked beans. All the food is tasty - these are just my favorites. The frozen cases are stocked with sausages and other delicacies worth checking out and cooking at home. The owner is genuinely nice and cares so much about the product and customer satisfaction. Please, please stop here and you will not be disappointed. read more

The first time I came here was four years ago and the brisket was severely lacking. It was dry and not at all tender. I couldn't understand why they promoted their brisket so much and yet it was not very good. I went again a couple months ago and the brisket was fantastic. Super tender and flavorful. I don't know what happened. I think the first time may have been an off-day. It's not a cheap restaurant but good BBQ rarely is. I like that they let you get your own BBQ sauce. I wish cornbread was included and not counted as a side. read more

One must get item: BEEF BUTTER BRISKET! It's sooo good, juicy, tender - just everything. Winner winner beefy dinner. You wait in line to order and they make your plate for you right there, so at busy times the line can be long -- maybe think about getting a number /order service and bringing the dishes out then ppl having to stay in line and wait for the meat to be cut etc. Besides the beef butter brisket which you must get! We also got the weekend only ribs and the rib tips which were both good but not stellar. The jalapeño smoked sausage was excellent, another one I would definitely recommend. Mac and cheese - love the cheese blend and was nice and creamy. Apple baked beans were delicious. The 'dessert' of the meal. For one 2 meat plate (with 2 sides) and 2 half pounds of meat, it was a little over $40 which seeing the amount we got is a little steep. We though the half pounds of meat were on the smaller side and it wasn't exactly weighednout but eye estimated, especially the ribs - which maybe with the bone makes it heavier. I don't know. All I know is the brisket is worth the hype so go get it!! read more

Perhaps the best BBQ in Madison (though there isn't a ton of competition) Visits: 3+ read more

While this restaurant is a little out of the way from most of the city, and the inside is about what you would expect from a BBQ restaurant, the food surpasses all the chains in quality, flavor, and variety of sides. I had the brisket and two sides, with a choice of fat or lean. The sides were great according to everyone the group--including my salad because I wanted to skip the carbs that the other comfort food choices had. Really, this has become my favorite BBQ restaurant. We went for lunch on a weekday based on the recommendation of one of our group. The sign outside says they are the best in Madison, and I believe it. I really think the service is top notch, and it has a neighborliness that you don't find at a bold chain by the mall or a business park. They have great sides and plates of meat. Really, this is what you expect. However they exceed all expectations, so don't form any expectations and just go try it. The manager stopped by our table to gather a few plates, and he invited us to come play pickle ball on their court. I have to make another trip with family and friends! read more

OMG! Are you ready for the best BBQ and sides of your life??!! Can I give 6 stars ? I love beef brisket bark and it's often dry and chewy. This was plastic fork only BBQ. No knife needed! I'm talking better than Kansas City BBQ! The Mac and cheese was hot, creamy and worth the trip! The beans had so much meat and apples, it was like a meal all by itself! Or Every staff member was so helpful and welcoming! On the way out, I noticed they had kabobs for $1 each and other amazing grill food. A plus was great selection of on tap beers! Prices were great for portion size! I'll be back!!! read more

Caveat: We're still in Covid-19 Overall: Great food. Great sides. Great BBQ. Top ratings. We chose Beef Butter BBQ for the first time, because of corn bread. That was worth it. Two of our crew ordered brisket. Two of our crew ordered rib tips (including me). If you too order the rib tips, just know that there is a bit more effort with your meal, to extract the meat from the bones. The meat is so, so good though. Great food, but I'll get the brisket next time. (re. pic......I so wanted the food to come out via the conveyor, but indeed they hand-delivered it.) read more

Counter service style. There was a line, but service seemed to be quicker than a sit-down. Plus, you could order an alcoholic beverage while you waited in line. I went with the fatty beef brisket. Tip 1: don't make the mistake my brother did and get 1/2 fatty 1/2 lean. Tip 2: order it by the pounds. What I'm getting at is I could eat the fatty brisket all day long. It literally melts in your mouth. The sauces: honestly you couldn't go wrong with any. Things I could care less about: the sides. They were average. I had the potato salad which was like any other generic stuff you could get at the grocery store. The corn bread was slightly sweet but dry. I want to come back for the smoked jalapeño cheese sausage. read more

Is this the best BBQ we have in Madison? I think so! We got nearly everything on their menu from the Family Dinner for the New Year's Eve option. The family dinner was one pound of each Beef Butter Brisket, Smoked Pulled Pork, Smoked Baby Back Ribs, Smoked Chicken, Jalapeno Sausage and Smoked Sausage. With BBQ Sauce & sample of steak rub. The carry out process was simple, fast, and efficient. MY mouth was watering just looking at their meat fridge. With a variety of sausages, brats, pork, beef, chicken, and sides to take home, it was making me excited about the next time i would go back. The brisket was so so juicy, smoky and tender. Also, we turned the brisket into awesome left overs for a couple days and it held up excellently. Smoked Pulled Pork: Like its name, it was super smoky and tender. Very moist. Excellent with the bbq sauce. Baby Back Ribs: I noticed that often times bbq places not in Texas are generally great at ribs.. It is usually not my first choice, but my gosh.. it was great. we didn't have any left overs for the ribs. Both the Jalapeno and Smoked Sausage were tasty. Super moist and packed full of flavor. The chicken was moist and tasty as well! read more

Affordable mouthwatering scrumptious BBQ finally is in Madtown! Do I need to say more? All I had was the Brisket and my wife had the Pulled Pork, we knew we were coming back for more. First of all, they smoke their meat on average of 12 hours. Secondly, when ordering the brisket, you're asked if you'd like it mixed with fat or even all fatty. No worries peeps, you can also have it without any fat - but that just seems silly. Thirdly, yes, the name Beef Butter is legit. The brisket and pulled pork were so tender it's like butter and yet so flavor full that you only need a little bit of their saucy BBQ - Sweet Amy, Spicy Andrea and Ryno (mild to hot). And fourthly, the sides are delish, homemade kettle chips are my favorite and of course the Mac n cheese. The Apple baked beans come in pretty close also. You really can't go wrong with any of the sides. read more

Oh the brisket. There is a lot of good to say about this Northside place, but it starts with the brisket. Juicy with only the salt and pepper rub allows you to focus on the meat. The sausage was a bit dry and the sides of baked beans and coleslaw were decent. But that brisket.... read more

This, once little, spot gets rave reviews and most, I am sure are well earned... Yet...like pizza, BBQ can have some real expectations & personal preferences that are difficult to transcribe via menu.. This was our 3rd time here over the course of many years and for me, it's simply not my style...yet, it may be yours... Service is outstanding! Prices are reasonable for the quality! So perhaps it's worth it; I know food costs are insane these days, so do give the meat a go! We had the ribs for the most recent visit...the smoked flavor was fairly mellow, yet, this is Wisconsin...I get it; anything with flavor or seasoning seems to be a hard sell in this area sometimes... The sauces (must be ordered on the side for additional cost with take-out) are OK...the hot is not hot enough...medium seems to he the best balance of vinegar, flavor, and heat...it's not too imposing & compliments those charred/fatty bites best The sides of baked beans (reminded me of Busch's canned) and Mac & Cheese (elevated Velveeta?) while not stand-out, stands- up...the traditional style cornbread was quite dry & lackluster...it tasted better cold! We also got some pecan pie and at $6 for a tart sized slice that was actually, visibly burnt...let's pass...I almost never order dessert & this miniscule slice that was overly bitter really did not make the meal round put well... To each their own...there are few BBQ spots in the Madison area...so worth a go compared to the other local competition, Overall, I understand this place gets rave reviews! Maybe the recent WI cold snap limited production & quality...I am not sure...yet, give them a try and see if this is the Q for you! read more

Really Super Special Bad. Ordered take out at 5pm on a Sunday. Online order system worked well and the food was ready when we drove in for contactless pickup. Brisket, Baby Back Ribs, Jalapeno Cheddar Sausage, Cole Slaw, Mac n Cheese Cornbread Brisket - dry, no discernible smoke, taste was meh Ribs - dry, no discernible smoke, taste was meh again Sausage - meat was dry, but good taste and the melty chedder saved it. Not smokey, but I did like it. Cole Slaw - ok Mac n Cheese - quite good Cornbread - $3 for a very small piece, taste was passable After dropping $130 for dinner for six to go, I really expected to be knocked out. I have heard great things. It came recommended by family. We were ready to enjoy. Disappointed is what we got. I did not even want to eat the leftovers. I would of gone two stars based on taste, but at the price? No, No, No. One Star. read more

For years I've flown down to Texas a couple times a year, for the BBQ, and always go to 'Top 50' listed places, and bring some back to keep in the freezer to smoke up the entire home by lightly microwaving just a narrow slice of brisket. Beef Butter BBQ does not have the same highly-variegated brisket, with colors ranging from a black rind to different shades of pink and brown that falls apart if you even look at it, or glistening pink/red ribs that explode with wood smoke flavor at every tight but supple bite, but they still do many things well. I probably should have been sure to ask for fatty brisket, but among the 3 meats the lean brisket (not what I crave) had a pleasantly crumbly consistency, a touch of red on the outside monochrome dark inside, and I packed most of it up to take home and use in a pasta. The pork ribs were disappointing as they were grey and flabby, with anonymous flavor. But I thought the tips were great - - they were fatty enough to capture the flavor of the smoke, had great texture, with black barky housing red flaky tender inside and touches of fat that really rounded out a real bbq treat. The coleslaw was chill and chewy yummy and a great complement to the meats; the white mac & cheese is not full of individual flavor, but instead is creamy lumpy fun that also works brilliantly to offset the rich darkness of the meats. The people are great, the prices are really what you should expect for these types of meats in this age, and it is a unique and distinctive meal in Madison, Wisconsin. read more

I love this place for two primary reasons: consistency and curbside. Their quality of food and service is consistently very high. The sides really enhance the main dishes of chicken and beef. Wow! Great bbq at the right price. Had the ribs, fall off the bone tender with a good bark and smoke ring. Lots of meat. Potato salad was creamy and delicious. The baked beans were amazing. The ribs came with 2 sides. I had to try the corn bread which cost extra but well worth it. A generous portion, moist and dense, really good! A good size roll comes with your meal. I noticed they had beer on tap. Pepsi products for soda. I will be coming back! The parking lot looked full but there was plenty of seating. Try this place! I guarantee you won't be disappointed! read more

Beef Butter BBQ - Ribs with potato salad, baked beans and corn bread. Delicious!! - Barbeque Near Me - Madison, Wisconsin

I love this place. Really good food. However, I may have just eaten there for the last time. The last time I was there, our party of four ended up with a bill of $110. None of us ordered too extravagantly (two two-meat plates, one one-meat plate, and one of whatever the special was and one order of cheese curds to split amongst us), and even if we did, that's still $27/person for standard BBQ fare. It just got costly to eat there. Their prices really got jacked up, which I guess is to be expected in this economy with the supply chain issues, but I can't afford triple digits for counter-style BBQ served on Styrofoam. I just can't. read more

I am always a little cautious about barbecue places because I do not eat pork. But, this was an amazing lunch! The staff was extremely nice and when i couldn't decide they suggested I try a combo platter. I decided on the beef brisket (melts in your mouth) and boneless chicken breast. I was a bit concerned about the chicken breast because they can tend to be very dry. However, that was not the case. My lunchmate also ordered the smoked wings and they were the highlight of our meal. Parking was plentiful and easy to find. Two thumbs up for Beef Butter BBQ! read more

We needed a quick dinner before a show--got in at 6:30PM, out by 7PM, and throughly enjoyed it! We have ordered take-out many times, but this was my first time dining in. - The SERVICE: Quick, friendly and out of your hair! You order up front, and if dining in, will get a number and someone will bring your order out. You grab your drink and seat yourself. High chairs and booster seats are available by one of the two sauce/utensil stations. - The GRUB: I am obsessed with the rib tips (ordered them 3 days in a row, that means I had them all weekend!) and love their brisket! Both have the perfect smokiness and tenderness. I've also ordered the wings for take out a couple times but they were a bit dry, so didn't think too much of them. Thinking their best fresh, so will have to dine in and get them there next time. Over the weekend, I got the chance to try their brisket and pulled pork burritos--both really highlighted the meats, complimented by rough-cut onions, cotija (?) and avocado. These were skillet-grilled so the tortillas had a good crisp to it. I usually drench my burritos in sauce, but not these babies! They were delish without it. The burritos and came with house made, seasoned chips and salsa--all for a so fantastic deal of $10/$12! Three house made BBQ sauces are also available--options are Sweet, Mild and Hot--available thru dispensers, or pre-packed and labeled from the back (just ask!). In addition to the meats are several sides on the menu (I say, stick with the meats!). They also have a few refrigerators packed with meats "ready-to-grill." Have not purchased any, but will definitely keep this in mind next time we fire up the grill. - The SPACE: Clean, with plenty of tables and good-sized TVs. There are two huge, TVs toward the front-middle, playing live cams in their smoker and fire pit. I thought this was an awesome touch! Bathrooms were also clean. A neat thing I noticed was that there is a changing table in the men's bathroom but not the women's. No--I did not go into the men's room! I saw a sign on the door to the men's room and asked my Hubs (who used it) about it. The women's room does not have a changing table. I'm cool with my Hubs taking that responsibility while we're there though, haha. I think it's clear that I will be returning! So glad to have Beef Butter BBQ in our neighborhood. read more

B-B-BBQ is oft hailed as the best in Madison and it is easy to see why. Their meat is consistently delicious; Their sauces are wonderfully savory. Their sides are succulent (the apple pie baked beans are Mrs. T's favorite) -- the typical corn bread staples for BBQ are as thick as they are freaking amazing. If you like: Chicken, beef, pork along with delicious sauce -- BUY FROM THESE GUYS. Anyway -- if I was rating this my favorite meats and sides alone it'd be a fiver, easy, so here are the things that drop the star: - As with any BBQ joint -- the sausage tends to be meh. - Their potato salad is, well, potato salad. Not much to amp, there. - Decent mac n' cheese but prob not worth the dosh We tried some of their frozen brats, too, and FWIW -- I'll stick to my usual store brands -- the price difference isn't worth the slight uptick in quality. read more

Food is excellent, but the prices are very high for plastic fork food. I really love their jalapeño sausage.

Every year I look forward to Beef Butter's Smoked Corned Beef at St. Patrick's Day. I was in yesterday, bought a couple of pounds' worth to take home, and then ate a bunch of it for my lunch. Soooo good. I will probably have to return for more, as I think what I have isn't likely to last as long as I'd hoped. I think anyone who tries the Smoked Corned Beef is sure to love it. Anyone who doesn't try it is really missing out. read more

Best BBQ food and catering option in Dane County. Highly recomended. Definetly a good bet for catering.

Oh for the love of all that is holy in this world... Beef. Butter. BBQ. That right there should be enough to get you through the door. But, in case it isn't... my wife and I were first-time visitors today for a late lunch. Before you even walk through the door, the smell of awesomeness... well... do you remember the old cartoons where someone would smell something lovely and they'd float through the air, led by their nose, with the "smell" wagging a finger at them telling them to keep coming? That's the feeling as you walk through the door. The menu is written on the wall on butcher paper. It is extensive and you have plenty of options. We decided to share a 3-meat platter. It came with one pound of meat and two sides. We selected rib tips, brisket and pulled pork. Our sides were coleslaw and baked beans. Now, before I get into the meats, let's talk about the baked beans. They had caramelized apples in them! I've never heard of that before, but I'm here to tell you that it was mind-blowing. So, yeah, the meat. "Tender" does a disservice to the word tender. The brisket pretty much melted in my mouth. My wife, who does not like pork, went crazy for it. The rib tips were so juicy, it all ran into my beard (that's not a complaint). We did something we rarely ever do: we ordered dessert. She had a pecan pie. I had key lime pie. We ate these in silence as nothing else in the world even mattered for those few moments. To top it all off, Beef Butter BBQ caters to the gluten-free crowd. Thank goodness this place is only about a half-hour drive away, because we're absolutely coming back. Cheers! read more
