A nice walk on the pier out to the lighthouse though an awful lot of small flying insects. Of course, the lighthouse is accessible from here too. These two lighthouses protect Sodus Bay, the largest natural harbor on Lake Ontario. This light was first established in 1858, the new lighthouse was replaced in 1938 with this 51 foot tall structure. The view over Lake Ontario is fabulous, especially this early in the morning. At 7:00 am, I had the park to myself. Highly recommend. [Review 1531 of 2024 - 447 in New York - 22554 overall]

There is swimming when lifeguards are on duty. You feel like you're at the ocean when sitting on a Lake Ontario beach. The lighthouse view is stunning. There are bathrooms, a food stand, and a playground area. There is also a covered space with picnic tables. It's a perfect spot for a family. Dogs are allowed on a leash so we will be able to bring out pooch! There is plenty of parking. The houses along the street to the beach are adorable! There's a quaint little village with a few restaurants and shops. We will be back this summer!

I had a great time exploring this park. They did a really good job of adding in lots and lots of…read moreboardwalks and the wetland scenery is about what you'd expect. They also have some pretty expansive butterfly fields, which, alas I was unable to fully appreciate because I didn't go there at quite the right time of year but that's okay. Toward the back is a beautiful lake, and I'd recommend sticking to the trails back there because it can get kind of muddy otherwise. Great place to see a bunch of frogs, deer, and the occasional snake.

The terrain is relatively flat so it's good for folks of a wide variety of fitness levels. I think this would be a great place to introduce a young one to hiking as the trails aren't too long or challenging and there's a variety of stuff to look at. There are also a few benches scattered throughout to sit and take a break. There are quite a few knobby roots in the paths so I'd recommend shoes with sturdy soles. We didn't go out to the longest trail because we stopped on a whim and weren't wearing the best shoes. All the trails are well marked with white maps that show where you are and all the other trails so it's really easy to navigate. There are a few older signs that must have been there for a while and some of the trail names seem to have changed. So just ignore those. The first trail that spurs off the main trail leads to a little pond, but we couldn't really see it as it was obscured by cattails. Our favorite trail was the boardwalk trail as you're surrounded by all the cattails and it feels like the boardwalk just goes on forever. We saw some folks that looked like they were there to bird watch, so it might be a good place if you're into that. As it is a nature preserve, there are signs posted for no dogs and no biking. There's other info posted at the trailhead and some interesting posters as well.

Stopped here to check out the walking trail, and was pleasantly surprised by how big the park was!…read more The trail: Alltrails said this was classified as easy, but I beg to differ. The first half seemed that way! There were book pages laid out in weather proof stands to read as we walked. It was flat and wide, and follows the water. But as soon as you turn the bend and walk up those stairs, everything changes. It gets thin and overgrown, roots and rocks are everywhere, and one misstep would probably send you down the hill on either side if you're not careful. I would definitely classify this trail as a moderate, and would not recommend the second half to anyone who isn't steady on their feet! The rest of the park: Beautiful! So many wide open areas! Water, which always earns brownie points for ambience. A few covered pavilions, a really fun playground area, and an impressive community center. I'm not sure I would walk the trail again, but I would definitely come back here for everything else!
