It's close to home and it's trails offer an amazing workout. Bender Mountain Preserve has many trails some that go along the creek bed, with others that are much more difficult, climbing up to a 45 degree incline. Once up top there is an amazing view overlooking the Ohio River Valley and Kentucky. Bender Mountain Preserve is more hiking trails than a standard park. It's very remote and even during peak times you may only see a hand full of other hikers. Plus dog friendly!!

I've seen people taking engagement photos here, hosting weddings, and I even did my own graduation pictures here. It really is such a beautiful setting for special moments. One thing that always surprises me is how big it is. There are genuine hiking trails that wind through the woods, which is amazing for a park so close to the city. It's also great for birding, and I often see people playing frisbee, walking their dogs, or just enjoying a peaceful walk. The native plants and flowers are so well maintained, and there are so many little tucked away spots where you can sit with friends or a partner and enjoy a quiet, private moment. The treehouse was pretty cool to see and near the treehouse was where we started our hike. Plenty of ups and downs on the trail that we went on. I'm not sure if I struggle at following the trail signs, but went the wrong way a couple times and think that the trail that we were trying to follow had multiple names. All was fine though, got to do a bit more exploring. The creek is pretty dried up. I would have liked more signage for hiking trailheads at the entrance of the park, so head to the left (as if you're going to the treehouse) at the entrance if you want to hike. Disc golf looks like it'd be really good here, I hope to come back and try it out.

McCullough Nature Preserve where did you come from?!…read more Smack dab in the middle of industrial Norwood is one of the most secluded and beautiful parks/trails in all of the city. From the road this place looks like the secret garden, you have to pull back the brush and behind it is something magical. We drove past the historic house and parking in their lot. We had lunch with us, so we took advantage of the picnic tables overlooking the garden. For a minute we may, or may not have, pretended we were in the Great Gatsby. They also have some great hiking trails. We just browsed, but I can't wait to go back. This place is totally underrated and I don't know of anyone else who has ever even mentioned this place to me before. Even for a minute on your lunch break, go check this place out. Five minutes in the fresh air among these massive trees, greenery and garden will definitely freshen your day!
