I'm really a huge fan of this place. I have paid far more for nastier meals and for this price would not eat anywhere else in the city. I am sad that it's local to my in-laws rather than to me, I'd eat there regularly. I usually choose a steak, which is tender, hot and they know what you mean by medium rare. The onions with it are lovely, and so many choices of potatoes. My husband chooses more widely from the menu but has never been disappointed. Service good, swift but not in your face.
It's a nice atmosphere, I think the reason it's not more popular is its unfortunate location up in the middle of an industrial estate, but once you park up and go inside you won't notice that any more. There is a lively social scene in the bar area, with quiz nights and similar going on, clearly the bar is where the real money is coming in as the restaurant area is quiet and serene every time we have been. It's well separated from the bar area so you don't notice noise or distraction from the events. It's not immediately clear that the venue has wheelchair access as there are large stairs down into the restaurant, but staff quickly jump to put in a custom folding ramp. It's pretty formidable for someone trying to self-propel or let's say an elderly couple where one is in the chair and the person pushing is not fit, strong and steady on their feet.
The only reason I have chosen 4 stars and not 5 is the disappointment of the children's menu. For all the variety and choice of the adult menu, the children's portions rely on the old standards of chicken nuggets, beans and chips. A real disappointment for my daughter as she could not manage an adult sized portion but would happily eat interesting salads, fish dishes or chilli chicken, she doesn't need to be treated like she has no palate just because she is 5 years old, and we wouldn't feed her minced up chickeny bits at home, we certainly don't intend to pay eat-out prices for such things.
Go there, we need it still to be serving food when we visit the in-laws again! It's sad to see quality overlooked, I breathed a sigh of relief when another venue in the city was not able to accommodate us because they were full (the FIL was in charge of booking) as the food at the Beechill is far superior, the other venue is all pomp and circumstance, very expensive and serves potatoes like rocks. Why is that place full and the Beechill empty? It's not because of the food, certainly. read more
