Upon entering my mom and I talked to the owners who had a plethora of knowledge about their products and mead. Hearing how the owners found their niche and how they started was amazing. The ambiance of Bee Town Meadery is a small mom and pop Meadery with many traditional and draft meads. We got a piece of paper the initial which ones we'd like to taste. The number 3 wildflower mead- very light and lovely. Strawberry very nice has a brown color. Number 13 burnt church blueberry- darker color mead you can taste the oak and vanilla from the barrels and a hint of blueberry. Mead draft d3- very light peach flavor and light honey. D1 light pear and light spice very lovely, Light golden color, warm honey mouthfeel. D3 punkin pie- medium spice, you can taste the light pumpkin flavor, light on the spice. The mead they offered either traditional or draft was exquisite. Y'all definitely need to stop here- 10/10 read more

Phenomenal place! Both owners were extremely kind and were happy to inform us on all the different meads that they had. The inside of the place was small but very well decorated. Unique experience. There aren't many Meaderies as it was is a growing trend, and this was the first to open in South Carolina! Mead is fermented honey, a honey wine, similar to a white grape wine but made with honey. The owners Mike and Juliana will likely be there to educate you about mead, describe the mead and provide tastings. They are great people with a passion for mead, and make some great mead! FAVORITES - Coffee mead is my hands-down favorite (I am a coffee fanatic). It's a standard house mead that you can always find the in the store. It is a medal winner. 2019 Winter batch has extra coffee which makes it even better! - Margarita mead was excellent! Lemon, lime and a touch of orange. Its well balanced between tart and sweet. It's great as-is, but Mike (owner) recommended adding a touch of tequila if you want to up the alcohol. It's a special mead on tap so may not always be available. - Cranberry orange is another seasonal mead brewed for the Thanksgiving/Christmas season (won't always be available). Really good! I paired it with some chocolate covered bacon which was a great match. TIPS - Food: Mike lets you bring in food so grab a sandwich from the shop next door or takeout from the historic Squat n Gobble across the street. Enjoy your meal at the tables with some great mead! - The special seasonal mead is only available in store on draft. Either bring a growler or purchase one at the Meadery and take some home. A top notch meadery with a great selection. It's definitely a hole in the wall that's worth a try. It was my first time trying mead, so it was nice that the mead maker was patient with me tasting the different flavors. On our way back in from Savannah, we saw the billboard for this place. Having never been to Bluffton, we wanted to check it out. This place sits in a non-descript, small plaza but there was a small sign on the road which helped. Inside is a bar area for 4 to sit and have tastings (4 for $8 or 6 for $11) or sit at the various tables. This is also where the mead is produced (vats in the back). This is the first and only meadery in SC. There was a good number of options which included a cider. Initially I was worried when the owner said their meads were dry since my palate prefers the sweeter versions. I tried the cider, coffee mead, blueberry mead, and vanilla cinnamon. I liked them all. We took home a bottle of the vanilla cinnamon ($26 or $28) but the vanilla cinnamon mixed with the coffee was to die for. Pretty cool place to check out and try something new. read more

Great little place. As a budding Mead maker, I went there to sample good Meads to see how well I was doing. Turns out I have ALOT of room to grow. We don't have any Mead houses near us, so I sought this place out with a group of family. I wish I lived closer I would definitely return. My family bought some refillable growers that are half price to re-fill (I think). Forgot to mention. The peach was hands down my families favorite. read more

Owners are local couple and very knowledgeable about mead, this meadery is the first one in the state of SC and one of the only ones in the state. I ordered the first 3 meads on their extensive list as they were most traditional and also a growler of their cider. The drinks themselves are high quality so far and definitely has a high class/craft taste to it, very smooth and easy to drink. Similar to a fortified beer or a white wine. This is probably due to the high quality of work and ingredients that goes into every batch, including working with mostly local beekeepers in SC, GA, and a few other states. Bonus points for being the mead pioneers of SC and being an invaluable cultural bastion right here in Bluffton, SC. read more

My wife and I stopped into this meadery on the first day of our vacation. We've always been fans of trying new wines/meads, and love going to tastings anywhere that we can. We both got a tasting, and loved their meads. I prefer something more dry, while my wife prefers something sweeter. Bee town had meads that suited both of us. In the end, we bought a bottle of their cherry mead, and plan on getting more once we drink it! I highly recommend this meadery to anyone who enjoys going to wineries and participates in tastings! read more

My wife and I visited while en route to Hilton Head Island and after getting lunch nearby. We are not very familiar with Mead but have visited and done tastings at many breweries, cideries, and wineries. I saw Bee Town advertised on Untappd so I talked my wife into stopping by and checking it out. When we entered we were the only customers with a man walking around the back area and a lady at the bar. She asks us our experience with mead before and quickly responds that it's nothing like beer or wine. And persistently insists on us doing a tasting. Now my experience doing tastings or flights are the bartender/server give you the drink, tells you a little about it, and then leaves you alone to taste/form your opinion. This was not the method used at Bee Town. She serves you the taster, tells you where the ingredients come from (local, which includes Florida), tells you how much a bottle cost, tells you that its 11%, and then asks you what you think....all before I could take more than two sips. Then we sit there quietly while she watches us. This continues through the whole tasting. We felt forced to chug each glass and to compliment what we had. Perhaps it would have been a different experience with other customers or a larger group where we would have been able to enjoy the beverages and talk to eachother. read more
