This is a fantastic shop with lots of supplies and ingredients for batches, and even better, really knowledgeable and helpful people that are willing to be resources and answer questions. Esse is a walking encyclopedia of brewing information. And he and his partners are serious homebrewers themselves. I don't know the first thing about beer making, but my husband does and that's how I've ended up at Beer Engineer a few times. The first couple of times he was with me, so it wasn't too bad. The last few times I've been on errand for him and had to figure out what the heck he meant by everything on his list. Thankfully, the two guys who own and operate the place are AWESOME. They've been so helpful answering questions or finding things for me and they didn't make me feel as dumb as I really am about beer. As far as I can tell, their prices are reasonable and they have a huge variety of grains, yeast, hops, and all the other things you put in beer. I enjoy going and using the grain mill and seeing what new stuff they've got. If you're at all interested in making beer or you do it regularly, this is a great place to go. After moving to Charleston from Philly, we learned that there weren't any options for home brew supplies. After hearing of one opening in Mt. P, we learned quickly that this store also opened over in North Chuck. It was a little difficult to find due to it being small/one small sign, but I am glad we did! The staff was knowledgeable and the supplies they had were plentiful. It is a small store, but they still had everything on hand that you needed. After discussing what type of recipe we were going to be making, we were given a few options for the best route to move forward. Their prices are pretty great (compared to online or back in Philly) and we will continue to use them for our home brew needs. I would recommend them to anyone who already home brews (beer, cider, wine) or is looking to start! read more
