It's great for Instagram, Facebook, or even a legit portrait. My twin 17 year olds and I had so much fun. I couldn't imagine it being worth the $20 a person but honestly we had a blast. I'll share some pictures we took so you can get an idea. The staff was very eager to help take photos when we wanted to all get in a picture. Plus we took a lot with my SLR (the small sampling here are just with my phone). Definitely worth checking out with friends or family if you're in Toronto.

How it works is that there are rooms with a selection of back drops for you to take photos/videos in. There aren't much restrictions on what you can or cannot do (maybe except for breaking things LOL). Basically, let your creativity out and strike as many poses as you can. Be mindful that there might be other people who wants to take photos in that room, so make to share. It was a fun experience but it's something where I'd probably only come once or twice. TIP: My friend and I chose the last time slot on a weekday and we had much more time to take photos as there were not much people in there except us. So if you want to not feel rushed, it's best to go on a weekday around closing time :)

Last month, a Yelp event was held at National. Sadly, the bowling alley was unavailable due to flooding. I like doing research for our team's summer event and felt that this place may be a decent candidate. I returned with a friend last Saturday, with the bowling alley being operational. My first visit was after work on a Tuesday. Traffic was decent. I drove on Front Street West heading east and made a left to park at The Well. I took my ticket and paid on my way out. I parked on P1. I took two separate elevators to get to National, which is on the Upper Ground level. My second visit was on a Saturday. Traffic was a bit nuts, but I made it in one piece and parked on the same level. There is a bar area. Staff both at the bar and everywhere else were friendly and welcoming both times. I have had the guava mai tai. It was so good. It was slightly sweet with the guava. It had the best ice that made this drink refreshing and delicious. There was water in carafes on the bar table that hit the spot. I also got to enjoy a dragonfruit soda. It was excellent! I loved the fizzy soda with dragonfruit with ice cubes. The food here was amazing. I've enjoyed tater tots with ranch dip, a chicken slider, a wonton with chilli oil, and a small popcorn. Excellent! I was so stuffed. Everything that I consumed was tasty. My friend and I split a pepperoni pizza. It was delicious. It had plenty of pepperoni slices and cheese, and it held up nicely. The arcade is small. It was still fun playing the claw game, racing games, and more. To use the bowling alley, grab a ticket at the counter. Then, find an available lane and play. The area has a nice display of bowling balls. You can rent bowling shoes. Washrooms were to the right of the escalators. There were separate stalls in the women's. It was clean and nicely maintained. It's a lovely venue to hold a fun event, enjoy tasty food and yummy drinks, and chat with folks. The downside is the small arcade. I feel like if we had a team event here, many folks would be bored with it. The bowling alley is cool. However, we have a bowling alley closer to our workplace. Driving downtown and enduring horrible traffic doesn't seem worth it, especially to my peers who live in Mississauga and Brampton. (193)

Most venues are usually crap in providing…read moredecent gear for a proper drum n bass sound setup that I'd rather stay at home and rewind podcasts all night. Hey, at least I don't have to pay for cover at home. The Basement doesn't have any issues in the soundsystem department. It is one of the most satisfying drum n bass soundsystems I've heard. Most venues usually book a drum n bass DJ and then plug them into the house system which is either tuned for rock, hip hop or house/trance. That's like booking a full on performance of Macbeth and staging it on someone's front porch. That just won't do. The Basement agrees. The highs weren't ear shattering and the lows weren't distorted out. The mids were firm and crisp like a nice punch in the chest. Standard. Overall, The Basement is exactly what it says it is: a basement. You enter from the street level, get patted down and descend to the lower depths. Pay your cover, check out the disregarded pool table and then navigate to the main floor where the bar is. Grab yourself a drink and then feel some bass in your chest. For some SERIOUS bass action, check out the bathrooms. If you've ever wondered what it'd be like to relieve yourself inside a giant bassbin, this is it. Hold on to something when you're inside.

From the time I entered, to exiting the club - the whole experience was great. Specially the staff, so pleasant and professional. As a girl "washroom hygiene" is very important to me when I choose my party venue - I must say the ladies washroom at The Basement was NOT intimating to use at all. I was happy to see a washroom attendant keeping things tidy and making sure the place smelt good with strawberry scented air freshener, lol. Overall 4.5/5, I would definitely go back soon.
