This is a very late review and I apologize for not reviewing earlier. Tom and Christian were so helpful when my parents passed away less than a year apart, during Covid restrictions. Because our family and friends are spread all over the country we decided to have them cremated so we could keep their remains until a time where we could have family gatherings. We started off the new year with a goodbye and as difficult as it was, the whole process was made easier because of Beddingfield. Around Christmas, we began planning for a funeral and purchased a burial plot from a separate funeral home. We were told that there was a 3-4 week wait list for burial services with this particular funeral home. This was too late since we already had family visiting from out-of-country. Luckily, I stumbled upon Beddingfield as the first result on Yelp. I gave them a call and they were able to schedule us for the same day. We went over all details including caskets, florals, locations, etc. Tom walked us through the entire process, answered all our questions, and itemized everything so it was easy to keep track of. You don't feel trapped in package deals and you get to select what matters. Our total cost here saved us about 5k compared to the funeral home and, most importantly, they had plenty of available dates even within the same week. We wanted a Buddhist chapel and the one provided by Beddingfield was perfect. We selected the monks ourselves but they also offered to look for us. Beddingfield made it easy to request things such as prayer tables and they made sure the funeral was exactly how we wanted it to be to honor our loved one. I appreciate that they were sensitive to our needs and requests. As this was my first time planning a funeral, Beddingfield was a huge and necessary help. He was able to find us musicians and caterers that were also wonderful to work with. We had the added complication of needing to arrange the burial with Arlington National Cemetery which is incredibly bureaucratic and slow. Tom was patient but persistent in getting the burial date confirmed and arranging all of the details with the cemetery staff and a funeral home in Virginia so that when we finally got there several months later everything was perfectly organized and smooth. When my ex-husband passed away, Beddingfield was my second call. Talking to Cesar, I knew 7 minutes in that they would be my choice. At a time when grieving, it makes a difference in someone understanding that having a conversation about the person you just lost can be difficult. Cesar was very soft spoken, patient and caring. I told him what I was looking to do, he asked if it was ok for him to ask me questions. When I agreed, he told me to let him know if I needed to pause at any point. It has been years since I've written a Yelp review - and I felt that the empathy and humanity with which Tom and Christian and their team had handled a very emotional, heartbreaking time needed to be recognized! My Dad passed more suddenly than expected during Covid-19 restrictions in 2020 from an arduous long 5yr battle with 2 types of Stage 4 cancer. After being his companion and caregiver through it all, I was thoroughly exhausted emotionally and physically -- and yet I felt heard, understood and supported by the team at Beddingfield. When I was at my worst, taking the responsibility for my elderly Mom, to arrange my Dad's final wishes for a cremation and final resting place in their niche, both Tom and Christian gave heart and meaning to what I called the "business of death." Those days still seem like a haze, but I know that I couldn't have managed such a meaningful memorial without their support. First, it is very obvious that Tom has a depth of experience that is so helpful in managing any of the "in's and out's" of the details which will make your life easier during and after your loved one's passing. Christian also recommended the Legacy Touch preservation of Dad's fingerprints which represent a way to still feel connected to the physical touch of my Dad which brings so much comfort. I'm not sure quite what else to say but I am thankful to have had that support during Dad's passing, and even now as I have thought back on that time with comfort. This is a late review but amazing family-owned businesses deserve to be recognized and shared with the community. My father passed away unexpectedly one year ago. From first contact, Tom Beddingfield was courteous, prompt, professional, and made the process as smooth and quick as possible. I was grateful for Tom's ability to quickly communicate with me via text whenever there was any question or any last-minute unexpected change. He also assisted with details that I would not have anticipated. On the day of the service, Christian was prompt, courteous, and knowledgeable. We had a traditional Korean Catholic service and burial, and Christian was not fazed by the process. The Church had their own idea of how to carry out certain parts of the service (that even I was not aware of), and Christian knew when to step back, and when to step forward to assist. You know, it's difficult to give an honest rating of these being 27. I don't exactly know how they're supposed to go? But I also know that they were 100% attentive throughout the entire process. They always answered, rushed to my needs, were willing to switch a situation (coughministercough) at the drop of the dime. They let have an extra ten minutes with my dad, and also allowed me to have a few locks of his hair. Please remember I'm at my worst. When organizing affairs like this it's important to understand that this is a business. They can't just do this for free. Tom Beddingfield lacks basic courtesy and empathy for grieving families. He charges for every "service" imaginable, from viewings before the funeral service ($100-$150 "overtime" charges for 2 minutes) to floral arrangements disposal ($175) to $600 to observe the cremation of your loved one (I really don't understand the justification for that one?! Aren't crematories setup for viewings of cremations? Not true?!). Instead of being sympathetic and understanding, he gets very disagreeable when these things are requested and questioned about the multiple extra charges. Perhaps he's all empathy and light if you purchase some all inclusive ultra-expensive funeral package and is unpleasant to anyone who dares to choose some kind of a la carte option (other family members rushed to make the arrangements so we have no idea why Beddingfield was so disagreeable to the rest of the family members). Since the deceased was going to be cremated four days after death, I don't quite understand why embalming was necessary (the service was on the 3rd day after death and the body was refrigerated, but perhaps there are other reasons for that practice or requirement. However, what stands out as truly terrible was the garish disgusting facial make up for the viewing, which made the deceased unrecognizable. Didn't he bother to ask a family member about how the deceased normally looked or look at a photo? Isn't the goal to make the deceased look like they are peacefully sleeping instead of dying while auditioning for a clown school?! The funeral home was another terrible choice (Cusimano Colonial Mortuary), but Beddingfield must work with like minded providers. Finally, after these various unpleasant interactions with Tom Beddingfield, when noted there's always Yelp, he threatened to sue if we dared to post a bad review (perhaps such attempted intimidation of others explains the lack of bad reviews on this site). FYI, review sites are able to exist because it allows consumers to express their OPINION about the subject of the review. Don't want bad reviews? Our family found out at the last minute that we didn't actually have an urn to place our brother's ashes in for the Memorial taking place in 5 days. The funeral parlor in Stockton that did the cremation said that they had placed the remains in a "container" that we all assumed was an urn. When we requested an urn, they said that they could loan us an empty urn to use for the ceremony ... but it would take a week to order a new one? Not knowing what to do, we found Beddingfield Funeral Service on line, and called to see if it was possible to purchase an urn from them. We talked to Christopher, explaining our situation. He said that he was sorry for our difficulties and that he had urns in stock if we would like to come down a pick one out. In a little over an hour, we had picked a beautiful urn from a lovely selection. We were even able to take pictures of several urns and text them to family members! Christopher was there for us every step of the way, helping to transform a very stressful situation into a very fulfilling one. It's never expected to need the services of a funeral home but it was as pleasant of an experience as possible. I found the company here on Yelp and it was a smooth process. Every fee was explained and everything came together on time even though it was a holiday weekend and the coroner's office was closed that Monday. They were patient and answered all of our questions. For a basic cremation, urn, engraving, and obituary I thought the rates were quite reasonable and they were helpful making arrangements for an almost unreasonable amount of death certificates needing to be mailed out of state. The staff was personable and it made me feel at least a tiny bit better when picking up the ashes and the urn that the man helping me was pleased with the quality of the engraving himself. It's not easy to plan funeral services for your loved one. I didn't really know what to expect, say or do for that matter. How do you plan everything perfect when your grieving? When this is the last thing you can do for your loved one. Then...we met Tom at Beddingfield Funeral Service. When we called Beddingfield Funeral Service it was very easy to set up an appointment. During our initial appointment I appreciated Tom didn't ask us a bunch of personal questions. He let us decide if we wanted to talk about our brother. Tom was very compassionate. He kept telling us don't worry, that it is his job to make sure everything was planned properly. He reminded us to take care of ourselves. In this situation it's easy to forget about yourself. When it comes down to doing the business aspect of the planning it is always very difficult. Everyone has their own idea, budget and sentiments that they would like. Our family anyway;) I appreciated that Tom would ask if we wanted time and even offered to leave the room for privacy. We didn't have to ask. Tom was very perceptive. Beddingfield prices were on the lower end. We called several places for estimates. But what I really appreciated was he didn't push one way or the other when it came to choosing the options. We did a private visitation for an hour. I was supposed to have my brothers shirt pressed before bringing it in. I ran out of time. Tom personally took my brothers shirt in to have it pressed so that he looked nice. Again another gesture that was much appreciated. We needed to fly our brother to our home town. Tom called us with the flight info. I was impressed that he called us after the flight departed and then again after it landed to let us know he made it to the other care center. Tom really took attention in details. It seems as though it is a small gesture but when you are going through it, it's huge and a relief. I didn't have to call the other care center. Beddingfield Funeral Services had some Grief Resources info available. They also let us know some of the things we needed to do after the funeral, paperwork. Time sensitive things we would have never realized that needed to be done. Tom called to follow up on our family after. He is truly caring and genuine. I guess some of Beddingfield's customers come in knowing just what they want. For my sister and me, this was not the case. Initially, we met with Christian who was very kind and helpful. We got a good orientation to various options, and left feeling comfortable that all had been explained in plain English. Still, we felt we had to "shop around" by going to one other local funeral service and looking into buying a casket elsewhere. Oh, boy - what an eye opener! The first of our 3 stops did a bait and switch on us telling us they had a particular wood casket in stock when in fact, they had nothing remotely resembling it. The 2nd was dark, musty and strewn-with-clutter office occupied by someone who told us the person who'd made the appointment was not available. Unfortunately, the stand-in was unequipped to answer our questions. At the 3rd stop, we quickly decided to return to Beddingfields. The office they occupy is, as Goldilocks would say, juuust right. There is a nice waiting area, an office, and a conference-type room with catalogs and samples, and video of things like memorial slide shows and videos they can help you produce for a service. We purchased "basic services" as well as a casket, memory book, service programs, slide show and video services, transportation, obituary placements, and flowers through Beddingfields. At every turn, several options were offered, and throughout, prices were made clear and easy to understand. Well beyond being treated fairly and with kindness, each interaction with Tom and his staff was professional and respectful. Their beautician made my mother look absolutely beautiful, and their day-of-service assistance was invaluable. We really didn't know what to do, and were overwhelmingly grateful to Beddingfields, and to the social worker at the hospital for having suggested we consider using their services. read more

(Creepy review but you probably need straight facts about now) They came out (2 guy) and very respectfully removed the body and transported it to their facility. He was refrigerated until my mom was able to make the necessary decisions. We went to their office, a few days later. She really needed time to decompress a little. I don't even know where to start. My father was killed tragically in a car accident. Not only that, but my parent's friend who was also in the car died, and my mother was left in very critical condition. I was under a lot of stress, and this was so sudden. While in the hospital day and night at my mother's bedside, I had to begin planning something I never wanted to do at a young age. I called a couple of funeral homes and I was so disappointed with the service. I didn't make an appointment at Beddingfield, but my husband, my brother, and I, just showed up, and I felt so at ease. There we were welcomed by Tom, and he took the time to go over all their services thoroughly. He never ever sounded like a salesman, as I felt others did at the other places we went to. He went step by step and told me they would take care of everything. The staff at Beddingfield, were amazing to work with. They were very professional and understanding. Their prices are also reasonable and I felt comfortable with them. I must say, that many people look awful at their viewings. I have been to a few funerals where the person doesn't even look like themselves at all. They have a "sunken in" look and their color looks awful. I was afraid my dad would look like that, therefore I didn't want to see him. Even though I delivered his eulogy, Tom's staff closed the casket so I wouldn't see him, and reopened it when I was finished. I refused to see him at his viewing, until the end. Everyone was telling me he looked so peaceful. I then went and saw him and I am so happy I did. My dad looked beautiful and he in fact did look like he was sleeping. His team did an AMAZING job with him. I held my dad's hands and I remember kissing him on his head goodbye. My dad was then cremated and Tom called us a couple days later to let us know his urn was ready. Working with them was the best decision ever. Everything was handled professionally and quickly. I first contacted Beddingfield when we learned that my father-in-law was terminally ill, and within a day I had received an email back from Dean. I phoned Dean soon after, and found him to be very respectful and forthcoming with information. He offered to mail me a pricelist--it arrived within about a day--as well as pamplets on their location, funeral planning, etc. When the time came to make the final arrangements, my husband, etc met with Tom Beddingfield himself. Tom helped them select programs, a beautiful casket, flowers, and other needed items. He also coordinated transportation to the church as well as the cemetery afterward (plus an additional speaker at the gravesite). My husband was truly grateful for the planning support as well as the fact that the funeral would be financially manageable for us. Finally, Tom was there at the funeral itself as well the gravesite, making sure everything ran smoothly. He was quietly supportive and gracious during this time, something we all truly appreciated. read more
