My back yard is on the edge of a conservancy and always mostly in shade and the ground stays soft so when a previous service had used a standing mower it left deep ruts in the yard that had to be filled. I told David this and asked not to use the standing mower but his guys used the standing mower anyway. The front of the house really cannot be done with the standing mower. David will no longer be doing anything in my yard.

About a dozen years ago, we put in a large paver and retaining wall project in our backyard. Over…read morethe years, however, the retaining wall seemed to fail, and the brick patio became uneven. I actually had 5 hardscape companies from Madison come out and look at the project and give me a bid. Fact is only 2 of them were willing to do the project, but the guy from Herman landscaping said that repairing the project was in the wheelhouse of Jorge Diaz of Diaz Landscaping. When Jorge came out to look at the project, he really got an idea of the scope of the work and what would need to be done. Unlike some of the others, he said his crew would clean all the bricks, reuse them as well as the stone from the retaining wall. That was in August, and he told us that it is possible he would be able to do our job at the end of November. In October, he told me that the project would be done and we sent him a 50% deposit for the work. At the end of November, he began the project with his 2 brothers and his brother-in-law. This is his crew. They did a great job. 1/3rd of the job was removing all the brick pavers in the patio, which was about 800 ft² ,taking down a short retaining wall. They cleaned all the bricks as well as the stones. They brought in new gravel and pitched the deck correctly. They worked when it rained. We did have 2 snow days, though. When they were done, they cleaned up the site. Jorge had the vision on how this product project was going to proceed, and he executed it with his crew. I am very confident that he would be able to do any type of hardscaping project. Today, I was pleased to pay him for the work he and his crew completed. When Aspen gets busy, they get VERY busy, and Eric -- I conjecture -- don't quote me -- would need to turn away clients or ask them to go on a waiting list for the following year. Mr. Eric, Ms. Lindsey, and the rest of their brilliant crew have been working on a multi-year project for me putting in hardscape, including grading and, ultimately, changing (soft-scaping) our two acres from lawn to native plants+wildlife flower garden. Eric and crew are experts on native plants. The more I read about "lawns," the more I cringe every time I pass one on the road. Lawns, being non-native plants, they are animal-torturers -- ironically, lawns passively mow down animals. Think of lawns as efficient animal-disposal machines. Do the planet (and your neighborhood) a favor and make your land friendly to critters by insisting on native plants. Native plants and animals evolved together over millions of years, so when one's land doesn't have native plants, wildlife starves, all the way up and down the food-chain. Lawns are gasoline- and water-guzzlers. The lawn industry uses up a humongous amount of petroleum products merely in lawn-mowing. I am a "Gone the Lawn" person now. Lawns are appropriate ONLY under certain circumstances, like one is a croquet fanatic. I never knew that gardening was year-round. April is the month everyone waits for, but planning starts the previous autumn. Eric's physically-demanding season winds down in mid-November, so let him see your plot before the snows hide the land. Autumn is the best time to start brainstorming the design phase for the following April. Eric and crew are not only landscapers but artists.
