I was extremely needy when making my appointment. I contacted them both on the phone multiple times and through Facebook. I rescheduled my appointment about three times. Every time I spoke with them, they were courteous, respectful and accommodating. I finally went and got my hair done today and Natalie was great. She began my appointment with asking what I was thinking I wanted and then we talked about what was possible with the way my hair currently was, keeping it as healthy as possible in the process. While it's not as light as I initially wanted, it looks great and I love the resulting color. Natalie was a great conversationalist, and much better at small talk than I am. She responded in kind when I got quiet, seeming to read my mood. TLDR: my hair looks great, I went to this place

As someone who doesn't get my hair done I went for a blonde balayage and was pleased with it until it looked yellow and brassy in every other light. I used purple shampoo as directed by the stylist and wasn't able to fix it so they made another appointment for me so they could fix it. The second time I visited the salon for the toning of the problem they fixed, the staff was nice until I showed them the picture we had used as a reference and then they were basically rushing me out. The stylist only half dried my hair after and left clumps of product in it. My hair is now a grey/purple and I will not be returning. They followed that by trying to make me pay for them having to fix it. Absolutely ridiculous. After getting a passive aggressive reply I would like to clear things up. I did get toner on my first visit, we even had a conversation about the smell of it. The object of "my mom not giving me enough money" was never an issue considering it was something I paid for. I did have money the second visit as well I just shouldn't need to pay for something getting fixed.

She listens to you, she is a perfectionist, she is thorough and she's just the best at what she does. I went in there with a ombre/balayage. It was growing out and looking a little brassy. I asked for a cut that would fit my lifestyle: mom, no time in the morning to get ready and easy to style. I also asked for a balayage that would look natural and grow out to look naturally too. I don't have time to go to the salon every 2-3 months like my younger days. Sarah gave me the most beautiful color. When you go close up to my hair, the colors blend together like boyz 2 men singing a harmony. It was insane! The person who did my balayage before, did a good job, but Sarah did a perfect job. She gave me a cut that compliment my face and lifestyle. I walked out of the salon that day feeling like a million bucks. Not to mention I got stopped so many times by people, telling me how they love my hair and that I looked like a famous person (but thats another story). Talk didn't seem force, it flowed naturally. She's funny and extremely friendly. I would recommend her. I already told my friends to go see her. Her prices are reasonable. I just love her!!! She tells you each step what she's doing and at the end she gives you a mini lesson on how to style your hair. Who does that??!!! I love sarah and will continue to see her.

Choosing a hairdresser is probably more important than choosing a car: you could be with that…read morehairdresser for longer if they are any good and I don't want to even think about how much we pay them over a lifetime! That said, Salon 71 is a medium-sized upscale "chair rental" hair and nail salon just above Bruegger's of France Ave in Edina. It has more of a "no nonsense" feel of it than many other salons of similar quality. I think this is probably because it is a chair rental place and the hairstylists would rather pocket their cash than invest a bunch of money into making clients feel pampered with candles and mood lighting. The interior is several shades of beige and somewhat drab, but it has great windows over looking France Ave, is very conveniently located, and has a great magazine selection. Personally, I go to salons for the haircut and not to pay for the overhead, so I like that it isn't super fancy. I also LOVE that they don't push product on you, as many hair stylists at the larger salons (like Juut) must meet minimum sales for product (lame). I can't comment on the other hairdressers, but I like mine, who I followed to Salon 71 several years ago after she quit her gig in Uptown. Services there include hair, nails, and wigs. No, they don't accept CC so dust off your checkbook...you gotta use that bad boy for something, right!?

Ever other sentence I was put on hold and finally made a reservation after 10 mins. Prices online looked good and after I estimated my costs I figured I would actually be saving money as they are a bit cheaper than other places in town. When I made the reservation they said that they do not accept credit cards. Ok - no big deal it saves lots of $$ in fees. When I arrived it was really empty and not very "Salon" like. Drab colors, nice windows of France Ave & Lunds parking lot but didn't feel very welcoming. (Maybe I"m just spoiled from Juut and other places I"ve been.) They do serve water and coffee but in Styrofoam cups. (I'm against Styrofoam when there are plenty of other cups/glasswares that are much safer for the environment.) My stylist (Jordan) was very nice and did a great job with my color & cut. When I was done my cost went up because "she had to do so much work back to back & needed more dye". (Side note- It was a trim of 1 inch and a full highlight. Which is what I booked for!!! Plus she never ran out of dye in the first place.) So I go to write a my check to pay and the check was made out to my stylist who's real name is Heidi?!? not Jordan. I left happy but with a bigger dent in my wallet than I had planned on. Not to sure if I will go back.
