Her care is holistic and evidence-based, and she makes her clients actual partners in their care. We never did anything that I was uncomfortable with (which is almost unheard of in a hospital birth). Although they arrived about five minutes after our baby was born, I truly believe it was meant to be for my husband and I to be alone during the delivery of our 3rd baby. They immediately stepped in to complete all the postpartum care, made sure both baby and I were healthy, gave the vitamin K, weighed and examined the baby, helped clean everything up, and even got me showered and comfortably into bed. Each one of those days, Iuliana was there for me. From calling her when my water first broke, to my first few days at home with my son once he was discharged from NICU. Iuliana helped keep me calm during this difficult time and even helped me afterwards with recovering from my emergency C-section. She showed me how to use my breast pump and even helped me with getting my son to latch. Although I had my family, friends and partner there, knowing there was a strong, experienced woman who was there for any questions, concerns or extra emotional support I needed, helped tremendously. To this day I am thankful for her and we stay in contact with each other. Long story short, I labored at home starting at 6am, got to triage at 1pm (5cm dilated 80% effaced), got to our room at 2pm, and our baby was here by 4:08pm! Because I was SO SO terrified of the epidural needle, catheter, and the whole epidural process, my birth preference from the first trimester was to not get it. Truly believe this was not possible without all the skills and tips I learned from Bree's Hypnobirthing course, Spinning Babies course, partner support or support from my doula, Carla. For months, my husband and I religiously listened to the Hypnobirthing tracks at bedtime and did the readings provided randomly throughout the day. We really learned it is not about pain tolerance but mostly mental prep. During early labor, the poses we learned during our Spinning Babies class really helped! -- Carla (birth doula): Exactly the energy, support and vibe we were going for! We really loved how we were able to communicate with her as soon as we booked. She would regularly check in on us and send us links to free events / classes and other resources. Carla was always SO warm, responsive, and knowledgeable. Highly recommend including her in your doula interview process :) Kalista (placenta encapsulation): We had so many questions about the whole process, Kalista was very patient and great at explaining everything in a way that was easy to understand! We received our kit prior to birth without any issues. Post birth, we loved the care, info, and packaging! Monica did not disappoint. She was amazing and she lessened my postpartum anxiety and helped eased my family's transition from a family of three to a family of four. Monica has a warm and professional approach. During the in-home meeting, she listened carefully to mine and my partner's concerns and worked with us on the hours and days we wanted her to provide postpartum doula services. When she was working with us, she would anticipate what we needed or wanted - such as helping with picking up, sweeping, dishes, and taking out the trash - without us asking. Primarily, I needed assistance with my older child (2yrs old), such as watching her so I can get some sleep, take a shower, or just have a break. She was amazing at both watching my child and helping out around the house. Monica also provided some knowledge on diastasis recti, different holds for the baby when she has gas, and how to wear baby carriers/wraps. At the end of each session, she checked in with me about whether all mine and my family's needs were met and how she could better assist us for the next session. She listened carefully and came prepared for the next session. Both me and my family looked forward to each session because she made the post-partum period easier and less frustrating.
