Very disappointing. Should've know when there was only one other table of diners at 6:30 on a Saturday. Everything we had was blah, except for the dinner rolls which, as the waitress said, "they're just packaged dinner rolls - nothing special." That pretty much sums it up. The arugula tomato-basil salad was extremely bitter with sun-dried tomatoes when it advertised roasted tomatoes. I had the lobster butter risotto which was expensive but had very little flavor. My fiancee had chicken Parmesan. The chicken was good but the noodles were very chewy. Not Al dente- just chewy. Our waitress never offered us any bread so we finally asked a different waiter for some. The rolls were the best part of the meal. Staff was friendly. But the place has seen better days. The food wasn't bad per se, it just wasn't great for the price. The decor was very dated. However the staff were excellent; friendly and attentive. Again there was nothing wrong with the food. The crab dip was fine, I asked for lemon to squeeze over it which brightened it up and helped a bit, however it should come with more pieces of the toasted bread; The dip to bread ratio was off. The stuffed flounder was also fine, but for the price it was a let down, if that makes sense. The seafood pasta with the snow peas was a bit bland and way under seasoned, and the seafood was a touch over cooked. Had two drinks each and the bill after tip was $200+. I am sad to report that this restaurant is no longer what it used to be. I would not recommend to anyone hoping for an upscale experience or even a good experience . Upon arriving we realized how dirty the floor, windows and glasses were and we had multiple flies circling our heads the whole entire dinner. The chicken on our salad was so bad we both spit it out and had to send it back, it was cold, rubbery and not fresh. Don't get me started on the bathroom, it was disgusting. Truly sad, as I used to frequent this restaurant for years in the early 2000's. We left hungry and so disappointed. We tried this place once and will definitely be back. It was a super slow night, and service was fast enough and friendly enough. We had the Cajun oysters appetizers which was absolutely delicious. I could have made a meal on that alone. For entrees I got the flounder shrimp cake which was so good. It looks like a ton of food but I was able to finish it all. The sauce and grits were especially delicious. My boyfriend had the grouper and he just loved it and ate all of his as well. Not sure why this place has such low reviews on yelp when on Google they have a 5 star rating. I went here with my Boyfriend and best friend and we had a great time. The waitress was very attentive and friendly. The food was expertly prepared and worth the price. I would have to say that the dish that blew me away the most was one of the dishes that my boyfriend got. It was the fried green tomato caprese. I would have never thought to have used fried green tomatoes for a caprese salad but it worked well and I am kinda mad that I didn't get it as well. The appetizer came out quickly and was a large serving. The flavors were delicious and we all agreed we'd order it again. Went to Beauchaine's last night for Jim's birthday. Jim ordered the scallops. They were wonderful and I don't usually like scallops. I had unicorn fish; it was fabulous, served with a fresh mango salsa and fresh green beans!!! We also shared fried oysters and fried brussel sprouts as appetizers. The food was really good but could be improved. I had the special lobster with mushroom rositto a steep price of $38. The lobster was overcooked and the rositto was over cooked too. The price was too high for that. I was jealous of my family's meals they were delicious but missing something to make it amazing. One got the halibut which was amazing. Then other got shrimp and grits which was good but needed seasoning or some spice. Another had the eggplant which was really good great smokiness but should been served with pasta. We had reservation and were seated right away. It's strange that the restaurant has no website to show their current menu. They have a nice menu of cocktails. The Modern Old Fashion was very good. The cajun fried oyster appetizer was too pricey $18 for 4 oysters. We've never paid for bread in the US, but did so tonight; the $5 bread basket was chintzy. The seared scallop entree was good, cooked properly. Two of my fellow diners had the stuffed flounder and they both said it was good but too salty. One person ordered the special of the night, the lobster ravioli and reported that it was tasty, also too salty. Appetizers - We got the Steak Fondue (can't remember if that was even on the menu but ask for it) which came out with the most amazing blue cheese sauce I have ever had. It was that amazing. The manager Drew was outstanding in his service, conversation and attentiveness to our party of five. My girlfriend and I split the surf and turf and it was outstanding as well. A few weeks ago I was looking at reviews of local restaurants (we are new to the area) and based on what I read decided to go to Bistro for my husbands birthday. While Bistro is good, it simply can't hold a candle to Beauchaines. We decided to check out Beauchaines on a whim without reservations and actually didn't expect to get seated right away but not only did we get seated but we snagged a spot upstairs on the deck and we were the only ones out there. I can't say enough good things about the food here! Apparently their chef is relatively new, so if you've been here before and experienced some disappointment in that category I urge you to give this place another try. We're pretty big foodies and can honestly say we had the BEST meal here that we've had in a very long time, and that includes many of the places in downtown Wilmington. I'm a sucker for fish stews and always order it on the rare occasions it's on a menu. This dish, which they call The Cameron, was amazing! Perfectly cooked fish and shellfish, amazing broth delicately flavored, and thin slices of baguette finely seasoned for soaking up all that broth goodness. My husband ordered the crab cakes and they were equally good, Generously sized filled with lump crab, they were served with an out of this world wasabi cream that is guaranteed to make your mouth sing. Although we were fully satisfied, we couldn't pass up sharing a dessert We had the ice cream sandwich and all I can say is it was worth the calories. What an absolute disappointment! We dined at beauchaines with a party of 6. We were so excited to try some fresh seafood at the beach... big fat fail! Everyone's entree was subpar! $48 for a piece of grouper with zero seasoning or sauce, lukewarm shrimp and grits, overcooked calamari.... First time (a year ago), was great, second time was disappointing. With a reservation was seated immediately, waited ~10 minutes before being asked for drink orders, 30 minutes before food orders. Another 45 minutes before the food came, we were almost at our limit for waiting but also realize that many places are struggling for good workers. We ordered the grouper (tasty), flounder and shrimp cake (ok, could have been more flavorful), kids alfredo (also good) and lobster mac and cheese (had barely any cheese if at all, was smothered in bread crumbs and butter, and the lobster portion was the size of a tail and was over cooked - don't recommend and more appropriately described as "lobster butter noodles"). Drink refills had to be asked for. At this price point I expect better service and much better food. I hope things turnaround as the views and location are good. read more
